  1. Dick, the box looks fantastic, but, I do have a small problem with the finish. When viewing it from your pics, I can see where the finish is only so deep. It would have been better to either pour the finish over the top and sides, or, to completely submerse the pieces in the finish. That way the finish can fill all of the cuts, instead of only penetrating so deep leaving unfinished wood in the cut-out sections. For cuts like this and fretwork also, I have a cookie sheet that I use for finishing projects. I lay the pieces down flat and pour the poly finish over them, the finish is thinned 3-1 this allows it to better penetrate any and all voids. Plus, it makes it easier to filter the finish, to pour it back into the bottle I keep it in. To keep the finish clean, I use the same type of filters that they use for automotive paints. They're cheap and they do a fantastic job. Another option would be to spray the finish on, that should get the finish in to the areas that I can see bare wood. Len
  2. They all look good Danny, I used to sell them a few years ago when they first came out in the CWW&C mag. I sold them for six dollars each, or, two for ten and I never had enough. As for painting them, personally, I think the little houses should only be treated with a lacquer, or, varnish finish. If you want to add a bit of color, paint just the birds. Gayle Mortenson, on the Scrollers Cafe showed some just the other day with only the birds painted they looked fantastic. Len
  3. Kevin, with what you listed for tools that you own to do this with, I suggest you leave it be. It's just to dangerous to try to mill this size of piece, with your tools. It would be best to try to find someone with a bandsaw, maybe they will mill it for you. Len

Hello Anita, welcome aboard, it's nice to meet you in a round about way. Tom, will Anita be making a posting to set up her own acct. or, will she be using yours? Len
  5. I take issue with this piece, just because you survived, doesn't mean that anyone else can survive.. I know of people who fought their hardest, and they didn't survive. How will you feel if you gift this, and the person who you gifted it to does dies? When it comes to cancer, there's no two cases exactly alike and the treatments differ. I presently have three BILs that are suffering from three different types of it, they all just found out in the last three months. Two of them can be treated with good results from the treatments expected, but, not the third one. They only gave Joe three months if he went without the treatments, but, if he takes the treatment he'll possibly get 11mths to a year max. I'm sorry for being so negative about this, but it's how I feel. When it comes to cancer, you should never tell a person what they can do. My SIL died years ago, and on her deathbed she stated that she did all she could do, and she couldn't figure out why she had to die. She hated to be told that she will be alright, especially after she knew for a fact that there was nothing else that could be done for her and that she was going to die. Sorry about the rant, but, I've lost a few people to cancer. I think of poor sweet Debbie every time I see or hear a statement like this, and of how cross it made her. Len
  6. Take it easy Dick, don't be messing around in those temps. Len
  7. Nice score Dan, I'd have to pass on it, it's one wood that I definitely know I'm allergic to. I can handle the wood, but, as soon as I put my hands near my mouth or nose I start to break out in hives, and I get real itchy. You better get some weight on top of those thin cut pieces, if not they'll all cup on you. Len
  8. Tennman, I would appreciate seeing what you'v e made, even if it is made of metal. Just because you made it out of metal, doesn't mean that I would have to make mine out of metal. So, please let us see what your up to. Len
  9. There's lots of repetitive questions, to a lot of postings made here. What I would like to know is, do you read all the replies to a posting, or, do you make a comment without reading earlier replies and questions? I don't mean the attaboys or nice one, or good looking piece or that type of reply. I mean the asking about a pattern being available, and that type. I find it kind of annoying at times, to read all of the same questions. Especially when, the OP has already answered the question. Is it just me, or, does it annoy others also? Len
  10. Gator, since first reading this, I got to thinking, how do you get permission to cut Disney charactors or items? It would make displaying and selling any thing that's their copyright a lot safer, could you please let me know how to go about trying to get permission? Thanks. Len P.S. How are you making out with getting your store set-up, any idea how long it might take?
  11. Kevin, I know what you mean about the pain and it's number of levels. I was in an accident in 1999, I did some serious damage to my body. I've been living in severe pain ever since, and I worked until 2003, then I applied for the government disability pension. Thankfully, my claim was accepted, and I have been on CP ever since. It's not much, but it does help pay the bills since I can no longer work. I still am in so much pain, that most days I think of ending it all. Just yesterday and today I'm in such bad shape, that I never got out of bed. A good day for me, is a day where I just feel like I've got the flu, and nothing else wrong with me. I'm sorry to say, that those days are few and far between, most days I just sit around trying to control pain. There is "NOTHING" I can do without feeling pain from doing it, absolutely Nothing. It's been very hard on my marriage, and raising my two beautiful daughters since I couldn't participate in any of their activities. I haven't posted about this before now, simply because there's nothing anyone can do about it, and also because I'm a private type of person. So. yes I do know how you feel, I've been living that way for seventeen years now. The only thing I'm hoping for now, is that I'll just not wake up some morning, cause, I've pretty much have had enough of things being the way they are. To anyone who reads this; please keep in mind that I'm not looking for anyone's sympathy here, I'm just letting Kevin know that I know how he feels, thanks. Len
  12. Ouch Kevin, I'm sorry to be reading that your having it tough, I hope things get better real soon. Takd care. Len
  13. With this new info, I'd think your safe to do as you see fit with the picture. Len
  14. Did the person you purchased the picture from, know what your intentions were when they sold you the picture? Did they actually own the picture, or, were they selling someone else's work? Did you ask for permission to make a pattern from their picture, and are you planning to post the pattern for free, or, to sell? Oh yeah, one last thing, I wouldn't risk my house and possibly everything I own, on any information gained here. Len
  15. Wow, that's my kind of cutting, can hardly wait for the pattern to become available. How have your sales been doing Gator? With work like this piece, they should be going quite well. Len
  16. Ike, have you gotten a copy of this pattern yet? Len
  17. Hans, it looks like it could be a perfect set-up once you get a bit of arranging done. After having a fiesta at the table, you can then transform it into a bed for your siesta, couldn't ask for a better set-up. Good luck with the renos, one other nice thing about this set-up, is that if you ever move again, it's just a matter of hooking up the trailer. Len
  18. Gordie, I don't think that welding it will work, it's to small. But, you could silver solder it together, and probably get years of work out of it. Len

Wowsa Ducky, I'd say your not having a good week also, your very fortunate that it is only the one finger that got cut. It's not a nice feeling, running your finger through the blade. I did it years ago and the Dr wanted to remove part of my thumb, but, I wouldn't agree to letting him do it. Another Dr. said that he could save it, but, didn't know how much use it would be to me. It's fine now, and all you can see of the accident is a small scar. I how you heal up quickly, and that this doesn't discourage you from doing woodwork, take care. Len
  20. That's a nice bit of scrolling Josh, will you be adding a backer to it? If so, will it be in the school colors? Len
  21. I'm sorry, I forgot to mention your work. The birdhouse is spectacular, I really like the way the roof can be removed to clean it out. As for the intarsia, man that is something else. I just can't imagine the time and patience it takes, to come up with the results like you got with this one. Len
  22. I just can't imagine paying for cedar, I can get all that I want for free. The local mill supplies it to me for free, I had done some work there in the past, and since then, I have never paid for any material that I get from them. I don't abuse the privilage though, and usually only go there twice a year. Len
  23. Sell it quick Gordie, it's only a seven game series and no one knows what the outcome will be. That's what will be the issue, that will dictate what it's worth. Len
  24. 14 issues, there should be lots of projects in that many of them, it will be a good buy for someone. Len
  25. Looks nice, how many brownie points did it get you? Len
