  1. Two lovely crosses Tony, I like both of them equally. Len
  2. Too cute, I'd like to see one all painted up to look like a real turkey! Len
  3. Nice looking clock John, I used to get 5"x5' sheets of this stuff from the bottom and top of the bundles of flooring. The stuff was was east enough to work with, but, man o man it was hard on blades. Len
  4. Terrylee, that's a great repurposing of someone else's scraps, your clocks look great. Len
  5. Ron, your work is impeccable, these boxes are incredibly good looking. Len
  6. Welcome to the Vortex, be prepared!!! My first lathe was a $99.00 one, it is comparable to the HF mini. I've owned this lathe for over ten years, and I've done lots of pen turning on it. I've made a few small bowls and boxes with it also, but it is limited in size. It is a variable speed lathe, and the only work I have had to do to it, was change the headstock bearings. I purchased a 14"x42" lathe two years ago, I use it a lot for larger items. But, I still prefer to use the mini lathe, if the wood will fit. So, decide what you think you might want to turn, small or larger items. But, keep in mind, you can turn small things on a large lathe, but, you can't turn large things on a small lathe. If you do buy a lathe, you should buy a variable speed one if possible. Len
  7. If you know what size of bit you want, you can order them from Mike's or The Wooden Teddy-Bear. Len
  8. Nicely done Ralph, I'm sure your teacher friend will appreciate owning it. Seeing as how it is made out of solid oak, will you be adding a backer to this piece? I usually apply a coating of BLO to pop the grain, then after a couple of days of drying I apply either a coating of lacquer or poly as a finish. Len
  9. Don, I don't understand how they could have the saw returned to themselves, it's not legal to do that around here. Once the item is received and weighed, tagged and paid for, it becomes the property of the person it was to be shipped to. What is even stranger about this, is that the item arrived at its destination. How was this saw supposed to be shipped, courier or post office? Who was it that told you it arrived in Murfreesboro, they should be able to tell you the reason for the recall. It's great that you got a new saw, hopefully, you will get your money back from the shipper without to many issues. Len
  10. Wowsa Delano, that's a tidy bit of cutting, I see that we like to cut the same type of patterns. I've cut a lot of what your showing in this posting, keep up the good work. Len

    A Rose

Nicely done Chad, will you be using a colored backer on this one? Len
  12. Kevin, the cuttings look great, well, all except for the last one. I have to ask, are you getting paid for making any of these ones, or are they freebies also? Len
  13. Way to go Kevin, the lizard one looks so real I had to take a second look. Len
  14. Nicely done Denny, you can never start cutting ornaments to early. Len
  15. Another nice one Randy, this one looks like it might have been one of your easier ones to cut. Len
  16. Two more outstanding pieces Todd, Cody should be impressed with these results. Len
  17. Way to go Steve, there was lots of cutting to this one. It looks great, I like the choice of a color for the backer rather than black. Len
  18. Rant on Randy, I agree. With spare parts not being available any longer, I don't understand what he's up to. It's a good way for him to ruin his cred, hopefully, he is letting any perspective buyers know about no repair parts being available for these saws. Len

No apology needed Jerry, things happen. Len
  20. Vern, these scissors are beautiful, how large are they? Len
  21. Wow Theresa, another beauty, your a natch at this stuff. I can only imagine how your fellow worker will cherish it, lots of people would love to own it including my wife and MIL. Len
  22. Kris, it's a cutting you should be very proud of, it looks fantastic. I like how you made it to look like a beach scene, that's much better than a bedroom as a backer. Len
  23. Jeff, both pieces look fantastic, sure they may have been tough to cut but you did it. How will you be finishing and framing them, I'm very interested in seeing the finished project. Len
  24. Iggy, thanks for the mini-tut, it was an interesting read. Len
  25. Nicely done Roly, it's one I've been meaning to cut. Len
