  1. Stu, thanks for this info, we're always looking for ways to save money. Len
  2. How do you label them, don't you wreck the label while turning the blank? I keep my bushings in a small multi pocket plastic container, one similar to the old Tupperware containers. Each set of bushings have their own section, and each section has a label that designates where the bushings go. Len
  3. Cliff, you've got yourself a masterpiece there, it's a cutting to be very proud of. Len
  4. Your work is outstanding, your mother will love it. Len
  5. Dan, it's easy to see why they would be so well liked, it's gorgeous! Len
  6. Kevin, I'm sorry to say, but, I agree with Roly. If you would start charging for all of those name plaques your cutting out, you would be in a lot better shape financially. Len
  7. Dave, as far as I'm concerned, both pieces look great. I just read your second reply in this posting, if I were you, I wouldn't give the customer a choice. Isn't the one with the names cut out, the names of her cats. If it is,then that is the one you should send her a picture of. Who else do you know with cats, that have named their cats by the same names. The one with no names could be sold to almost anyone, not the one with names. Len
  8. It could be a great deal, all you can do upfront is give it a good work-out before buying it. Len
  9. Steve, if your using BLO and mineral spirits mixed together for your finish, then the only finish you're going to get, is a watered down BLO finish. The mineral spirits just dilutes the BLO, it does nothing else for a finish. To get the wood to POP, you should be using the BLO mixed with a shellac, poly, or lacquer. It all depends upon what you want for a final finish. Len
  10. Two totally awesome cuttings Todd, they should be good sellers for you. Len
  11. It's a beautiful clock Edward, even without the clock insert it would look good. Len
  12. Cliff, it's definitely a piece to be proud of. Whoever ends up owing it, will display it with pride. How could they not, it's so good looking? Len
  13. Dick, that is a perfect example of what you should be cutting for crafts sales. I've cut this pattern a few times, I stack cut 4 of them at a time. They were great sellers for me, I had a hard time keeping up to demand for them. I did put a backer on the ones I made, it made them look more complete and they looked better. I sold the ones I made for $25.00 each. They were made out of 1/8"bb plywood for the backer, and 1/8" mahogany for the face these ones I didn't paint. The best sellers for me, were the ones I made with mirror backers. If you make them out of contrasting woods, you don't need to use any paint. Len
  14. Nicely done Todd, what will you be using for an outdoor finish? Len
  15. Dan, what's this "again" thing about, they've been unavailable for some time now. Len
  16. Well Tony, at least you haven't been wasting your time, the pens look nice. I always enjoy seeing other items made from wood that members make, sometimes it inspires me. Len
  17. Les, this is a posting that was more then qualified to be placed in the Bragging section. It's qualified in three different ways, first it's your first cutting, second, we all like looking at other things people make. And finally, it's well worth bragging about being able to make your own clamps. Len
  18. The last time I bought 1/4" BB plywood, was a few years ago. I bought it at a discount store in Maine. It was at a Marden's store, I paid $4.00 for a 5'x5' sheet. There was a whole bundle of it there, but, part of the bundle had had some sort of oil spilled on it. I picked out 40 sheets that had no oil on it, I couldn't believe the price. I would like to have bought more, but, I didn't have room in the truck box for it. It was the good stuff, 5 ply and no biscuits on one face. Len
  19. Tim, these music boxes are beautiful, I can't see you having them for very long. Len
  20. Edward, it looks great, I would like to see a picture of it looking straight on, so that I can see the effect the green plexi makes. Len
  21. Steve, it's very considerate of you to cut this masterpiece out for him, I'm sure he will appreciate you making it for him. Len
  22. Paul, what type of blade are you trying to top feed with, spiral or flat? I can do what your trying to do, as long as I use a flat blade. I've never tried top feeding a spiral blade, but, I can see where there might be issues trying. Len
  23. It's nice that you didn't get burned in the end, lots of people have. Len
  24. I never heard tell of the game, all that people play around here, is cards. Len
  25. Dave, it's a beauty, I'm sure the recipients will cherish it. Len
