  1. Craig, I like to use either 3/8" or 1/2" stock for trivets. Personally, I think that a 1/4" stock is to thin, and I don't like the look of the 3/4" ones. Len
  2. Good luck with it Mimi, hopefully, the repair is a cheap one. Len
  3. Nicely done Dick, it's easy to see why your wife likes it. It looks to have been a tedious cut, did you stack cut them? Len
  4. One nice thing about making these types of art, is that you can paint the pieces before they are put in place. That makes painting so easy, it's almost a joke. You don't have to worry about painting outside the lines, because you cut to the line by painting the laths in advance. Len
  5. Richard, that's an outstanding piece, you got everything there was to get out of the pattern. It is a piece to be proud of, I do hope you stack cut it. Len
  6. Way to go Tim, your pattern making skills are impressive. Seeing as how this is your first, I think you should keep the cutting for future reference. Len
  7. Monti, they all look nice, but, if I was to pick just one. It would be the first one in the pictures, the one on the lefthand side. My second choice, would be the one on the righthand side of the picture. Len
  8. Katie, good luck with your move, I don't envy you one bit. Moving insurance is something you should look into, I know of a fellow scroller who had his saw and all of his patterns stolen in a move. He had no movers insurance, and I don't think he has gotten any kind of reimbursement for the missing items. He hired a well known moving company, and he figured he'd be safe. To move the shop items, I would have a few friends help me do that. It wouldn't cost me much, just a flat of beer for afterwards. We help each other out like this all the time, all it takes is a phone call and the boys show up with their trucks. Maybe you could do it that way, you and your boyfriend must have a few friends you could lean on. Good luck. Len
  9. Iggy, I had one of those floor model ac units, I didn't keep it very long. I didn't care for the way it worked, and in my small shop it was always in the road. When I returned the floor model, I exchanged it for a window model and it works so much better. Plus, the water drains itself by just dripping on the ground. I never have to move it, and it takes up no space as it's hanging out the window. Personally, I think you would be better satisfied, if you were to purchase a window unit. Len
  10. Mimi, how sure are you that it's the motor giving you problems, are you sure it isn't the variable speed control switch? Len
  11. I see him on here just about every day, like stated, he's been having comp probs. Len
  12. Kevin, your making great progress now. Len
  13. Kevin, I don't think there's a site to view anything put out by CWWC, there's no CWWC site anywhere. When they stopped publishing the mag, they closed their internet site down. It wasn't much of a loss, they didn't promote or keep the site up to date when they were in print. You might be able to find video on You-Tube, of people making them. Len
  14. Nicely done Dick, we can never thank them enough. Len
  15. Holy smokes Jim, that sure is some outstanding scrolling. I like all of them, but, the train is my favorite. I used to work for the railway, and I like most train cuttings I see. Len
  16. Don, it's easy to see why she'd want more, this little fish looks so nice. Len
  17. Joe, your little vase is gorgeous, even without flowers it would look great. The color of the clays that you used, were a perfect choice for the color of wood you used. Len
  18. Monti, I just hope for your sake, that you didn't create to much of a monster. Len

    Beach

MrsN, sure looks like a beach to me, actually, it looks so much like a beach it makes one dream of being on one. It is a very relaxing scene to look at, and the green grass backer looks nice on the palm trees. Len
  20. Well done Andrew, one of these days I'll try making one. Len
  21. Kris, it looks good so far, once finished it should be an outstanding bit of cutting. Len
  22. Looks great Dave, brag away. Len
  23. Kevin, what size do you cut your blanks at? When you get one side cut, do you place it back into the void that was made from cutting it out? I do, and I always slide a small piece of veneer into the cut left from the blade. Plus, I tape the house into place, this holds the cutting in place while cutting the other side out. I find that if I don't do these two things, my ornaments don't turn out right. They seem to be a bit lopsided, or, a bit overcut in places leaving saw marks. It only takes a few seconds to do what I do to make these, and I'm more satisfied with the finished project. These birdhouses don't have to be made from hardwood, they can be made from softwood also. I suggest that you start out with softwood, then when you get used to making them use hardwood. I'm not to sure that you will like cutting these, they take time, you have to cut slower then usual. I'm sure that you can succeed at making them, just take your time doing so. Len
  24. Kevin, the bird houses are easy to cut, you just need to practice making them. The ones you posted here are only half done, you have to cut the other face to give them the proper shape. I like the other two pieces, what will you be using for a finish on them? Len
  25. Danny, I see no cons, it looks as if it was cut by a pro. Len
