Cut this one today for a birthday gift. Used the "pencil sketch method."
  6. Like a lot of people, I find staying on line when cutting can be a pain in the a##! A while back I downloaded Paint.net (free graphics software). When cutting a standard (in the black) pattern I tend to drift even when blade selection, tension, etc. is correct. I tried something different. I took the original pattern and turned it into a "pencil sketch" using Paint. I went from a hog butcher to a surgeon when cutting this way. The improvement in control was amazing. I believe, like target shooting, you pick a spot on the target and aim as opposed to shooting at the whole thing. I believe your brain allows you to focus more on the thin line than a larger black area. Might not work for everyone but it works for me. Added an example... link...http://www.getpaint.net/index.html
  7. Love the detail! Right on the money.
  8. I believe in the K.I.S.S. principle. If I can cut it and keep the main focus/subject intact, then it works for me. Sometimes complicated details are called for. I've been lucky this year with requests for scroll art. If I can cut em quick and keep the people happy, then more cash in the pot Not too long before I can buy a new Excaliber SS.
  9. Another Xmas request. Original pattern by Wild Bill
  10. Came out great...Looks good and practical too!
  11. That came out awesome! He will appreciate it. As a navy vet...Thanks for taking the time to make it!
  12. Came out excellent.
  13. Fantastic! Great form and detail. I went back to 1/4" baltic birch ply. Has a nice light colored wood. If I need to darken, couple of coats of clear will darken. Scrolls on left were cleared, on the right no clear.
  14. Man you been busy...They all look great!
  15. Did another on the fly for a friend. Took the photo and used inkscape to turn it into a pencil sketch. Cut out what I thought would bear some resemblance.
  16. Wonderful! Color makes it pop.
  17. Great burn! Do I detect a bit of pointillism on that one? I've been known to create some smoke myself
  18. Thanks all! The saw stays on the table. I use pieces of carpet remnant under the base to move it out of the way when not cutting. Too heavy to pick up.
  19. Was on a deadline for this one...So grabbed a picture of the net. Had to be shipped cross country for a Xmas gift. Anyways, it was another cut on the fly.

Great detail and a superb cut!
  21. First I want to thank Bobby for the great pattern. Finished this morning. I added the Tommy gun. After all, who is Tony Montana without some heat!
  22. Came out great! Did you wood burn the border or stain it?
  23. Thanks all. Looking at it now, I could have removed the wood in the upper left hand corner to give more detail to her hair. All in all she was happy with it and I made a few bucks. I,m only $550.00 away from my new Excaliber 16 scroll saw.
  24. Asked to do a M.M. for a Xmas present. Wasn't a pattern, just a picture I found. Spent the morning trying to figure out what to cut? I wanted some resemblance to the pic. I guess you'd call it "cutting on the fly."
  25. Extraordinary detail. Yep...On the complex ones I'm going "only a few more cuts."
