  1. Yep...Type 1's were made in Canada. That's when quality control was important.
  2. Excellent cut and detail
  3. That looks great. I think using "slab" wood really brings out the subject.
  4. I thought I would make a list of some of the tools needed for all the new DeWalt 788 owners out there. I will go out on a limb and say these will also work on the 20" Delta 40-690 clone, but I'm not sure. "Tork" screwdrivers...T20, T25 and T27. T20 for the two screws that hold the blower assembly. T25 for the screws in the blade holders, link assembly and switch cover. I havn't removed the switch cover so I'm not sure what size the screws under the cover are (tension lever, etc.). Sockets...7mm and 10mm. 7mm for the nuts on the blade holders and link assembly. 10mm for the nuts on the side covers and table pivot pin assembly. I would suggest a straight wall 7mm socket. I tried a short tapered 7mm socket and it would'nt fit square on the nuts in the drive arm/link holes. Hex wrench...3mm. 3mm for the blade set screws. You can get most of these tools from Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. Happy New Years
  5. Fantastic cut...Clean and on the money
  6. I don't have room for a drill press so I cut all my holes with the scroll saw. If you download that pattern be aware it's not to scale. When I cut the legs they wouldn't fit. You have to measure the cutout sections. No big deal, just trimmed them up to fit. The circles are not 1-1/2" diameter. Used a compass to redraw the circles.
  7. Almost back to normal Got my saw back in the kitchen and cutting. Made this for my wife (great excuse to cut something) A free pattern from Steve Good http://www.scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com/ Simple cut and fast setup. The wife loves to burn those scented candles. Started at 900 am today and had it cut, sanded, stained and working by 200 pm. Now she wants a clock At least I won't hear any complaints about the noise from the shop vac.
  8. Wonderful tree Those are great ornaments
  9. That's excellent Glad to hear it was operator error and not the saw. You're on a roll now
  10. This blade offset is common to the Dewalt saws. Check this out, it might help. viewtopic.php?f=2&t=3622
  11. Wow A 30" Excaliber for $500.00 bucks. Man I would fly down there for that price Although I have no idea what 500 pounds comes out to in US dollars Looked it up...Around $800.00 US. Still a great price.
  12. I've been using Elmer's Craft Bond "multi-purpose" spray adhesive for over two years with great results. Spray the back of the pattern, wait 30 seconds and apply to the wood (I cover the wood with clear packing tape first). I let a piece sit for two days and the pattern still stuck. The only problem I had with peeling was not applying enough adhesive.
  13. Good call on passing it up He probably "mickey moused" it up good. I can change a blade on mine in between breadths If there's a lot of slop in the blade holders, it's seen some use (or misuse). Hold your money for something new with a warranty.
  14. I don't know about posting comments there. I only use Photobucket when I can't upload directly to the site. Ya the flipping was just something to do. Actually if I had shut off the shop vac there would be very little noise. The 788 is very quiet (mine anyways). The camera picks up everything. I did that piece without losing any body parts Biggest challenge was trying to hold on to the piece while cutting. I didn't want to break off any parts.
  15. If you can't tell I'm going stir crazy not cutting. I did have a chance to sneak in a quickie today I cut the emblem for the FD plaque this morning. While I was at it I tried to make a video. So if you've got six minutes to waste, here you go. Unfortunately my fingers were bigger than the piece I was cutting. Cut from 1/4" poplar using a FD-PSR5 blade. Old Yella ran like a champ (so far). http://s70.photobucket.com/albums/i83/g ... eWalt1.mp4
  16. Superb cutting and a great gift
  17. Thinking back when I set up my new DeWalt, I remembered an issue I had that I thought would be a bit funny. Squaring the blade on the DeWalt (mine anyway) I found that I needed to not only adjust the setscrews in the holders but also adjust the table to get the blade square (90 degrees to the table). The issue came when I needed to tilt the table. I tilted one way then the other and still couldn't get it right. I actually had a severe brain fade I couldn't for the life of me visualize in which direction to tilt the table In desperation I stopped and actually created a diagram of the blade gap(s) using MS Picture It After studying the diagram it sunk in This was not rocket science, I just couldn't get it
  18. Hey Travis: Yep...That fixed it! Thanks
  19. Hi Travis: I have been getting this when trying to access the pattern library. Template error Failed to find block 'upload_pic' (#(.*?)#s) in : [*] {HOME_ICO}{HOME_LNK}
  20. That came out great!!!
  21. I had the CW40 (same thing). Mine did have a slight blade wobble until it contacted the work piece. Check your tension as mentioned. This is a two step process. First setup your blade. Make sure the lock down lever on the tensioning mechanism is up/released. Turn the tensioning knob clockwise until the blade is taught. The final tensioning is done by pressing down on the locking lever. You should be able to set the lock down lever using slight pressure. If the lever won't lock down, release it, back off on the tensioning knob and try again. This is a trial and error process. Once you get it set all you have to do is release the lock down and reset when doing fretwork/inside cuts. The blade holders pivot on a roll pin which makes it easier for the blade to center between the upper and lower blade holders (which also causes some play). The blade holders attach to the upper and lower arms via a small extension with a threaded screw and nut. There is some adjustment that can be done. Check to see if the lower blade holder assembly is aligned with the arm. If not you can loosen the assembly and move it either left or right to align. The screw(allen) and nuts are metric. I don't remember the sizes off hand. Make sure you remove the nut first. Both the arm extension and the arm itself are threaded. This is a pain when trying to loosen the allen screw. Lossen the screw enough so that you can make any adjustment then re-tighten. You don't have to replace the nut until you are done with the adjustment. Try the saw and see if this helps. If this doesn't help you might have a bad lower blade holder assembly or bent lower arm. You can either return the saw (bent lower arm) or call Hitachi and ask them to send you a new lower blade assembly. I would opt for returning the saw for a new one since you just purchased it..
  22. Excellent cut and fit
  23. Thanks...Was a fun project and a possibility for stuff to sell next year.
  24. Almost down to my last few good pieces. I made these with 1/4" bb ply. Did a little burning on the backgrounds. Overall size is 4.5" high by 3.5" wide. Stained one frame and painted the other. Still debating on which I like better.
  25. Yep...Considering tort cases (lawsuits) are the largest source of second income in the U.S. I figured I would make it idiot proof Now I might have to run down to the local PD and get a concealed carry permit.
