  1. Don't use mags either, but...got an offer for a free mag SS Woodworking and crafts. Gonna check it out. The price is right!
  2. Great cut and colors!
  3. Having limited space (for larger tools) and being lazy, I get the ready to go plywood from Sloane's Wood-shop on line. For simple cuts, like the eagle, I use 1/8 Baltic birch ply. For more detailed cuts, like the Indian chief, I use 1/4 Baltic birch ply. The 1/4 inch gives more support for those fine fret cuts.
  4. That was my next project...Take off the back plates and check out the linkage arms.
  5. Like the old adage " Necessity is the mother of invention" This is nothing new, but it works. I figure it would help the new scrollers if they run into this problem. You can't cut accurately if you can't see the line. As far as cutting in the kitchen, long story sort, I'm single again. So my kitchen table is also my work bench.
  6. So far I give the Porter Cable SS an 8 out of ten. There is some vibration at max speed. Run at 3/4 speed very little vibration. Blade change is quicker if you set the blade in the upper holder first and just swing it in the lower holder. The blower on the other hand...Didn't work that great out of the box, very weak. After a few cuts it was pretty much useless. Went on line and found an aquarium air pump at Walmart for $4.47, gave it a shot. Another $2.00 bucks for some tubing and a little electrical tape, problem solved. Ain't pretty but it works great!
  7. Looks great! I'm thinking (always a dangerous thing for me), maybe a red lexan backer?
  8. Perfect flow and composition. Details are exceptional!
  9. Love that type of sawing. Great work!
  10. Ahh...The joys of inside cuts. It's coming back. What a pain in the a**! LOL. Well, practice makes perfect, I guess. Off a bit, but it came out ok.
  11. While sanding some wood, I remembered a tip from a while back. Had to change a blade so I scuffed up both ends of the blade with some 150 grit sandpaper. Made it a lot easier to set the blade in the holders without slipping when tightening the thumbscrews on my porter cable ss.
  12. Nice!
  13. Looks perfect. What blades did you use?
  14. Sleigh looks great! For me the 1/8 fits well in the frames I use. Had a chart I made of wood types, thickness, blades used, etc. Now if I can find it.
  15. Yep...Still working on the tension issue. UR ultra reverse. Gonna try some more blades, #5 will be on the list. Thanks
  16. Well, ordered some ply and blades from Sloane's. Found a easy eagle pattern and went for it. Used 1/8" Baltic birch ply and Olson UR 2 blade. Talk about drifting cuts dam! Gonna take a few to get the old feel back. Not ready for any fine detail cuts yet. Didn't come out too bad.
  17. Thanks All!! Ain't fancy but it's a start.
  18. Done...Didn't clear it. Wanted it to look old.
  19. Puzzles are very nice. Can be a hair puller trying to cut em so they fit together.
  20. Excellent detail. You got a steady hand.
  21. Came out great! She will be very happy!
  22. Nope, I am a Canadian, born in the US. Liked to draw and paint so this seemed an interesting art form. Very relaxing and I paint whatever comes to mind. Sometimes I will just make random brush strokes to see what I get (like the mountain) or add more detail (bird). The emphasis (as I understand it) is balance and simplicity. Traditionally only black and shades of gray are used. I add color as I feel the mood.
  23. Actually just cut out the basic shape with the saw then shaped with my trusty Dremel tool. Working up to doing portraits again...The last one I did with my Dewalt...
  24. Let's see if I can get this to work. One of a wall full I did.
  25. Those came out great! Gotta go find the "how to" on the 3D ones.
