  1. I went to church with a fellow who had one and he was extremely happy with it. He did do beautiful work. He moved on and I hadn't seen him for several years and met him again last week actually. We of course talked scrolling and he is using the same RBI saw and is retired so using it more. I have however not used one.
  2. I am sorry to say I do not know how many I have. I don't know how to scan in to computer. I keep them in my head. I have them all memorized and bring them up anytime and draw them on the wood. Now does anyone want to buy Mount Rushmore I happen to have it for sale. Well I don't know how to scan and keep them so I have then in plastic file boxes no idea how many. when I want something I just look through them and pick one that hits my fancy. No I can't tell you were my fancy is. I wish I was more adept at computer stuff so I can put them on CD or scan to computer but this will have to wait until I retire and complete the ones I got and know which ones are keepers. Oh I do have the first CD form Steve Good does that count.
  3. I generally will use 50/50 BLO and Mineral spirits on hard woods then use poly on that after giving 2-3 days to dry. I will use a sealer on soft like pine or poplar before sanding then stain of choice or paint. I think the choice of stain is up to the user as to color to meet what ever th project is.
  4. When I have cut plexiglass which has been a little while. I found where it was recommended to use duck tape on the top and bottom over the paper and put the pattern on that then cut. It did seem to go well. With the duck tape I could speed up a lot. I had cut very slow speed or it would melt back together. Not sure if this makes since but that is what I do.
  5. I have a stamp with a hand saw on it I found at Michaels several years ago. Over the top of the saw it says handcrafted for you by, I then sign my scroller name grampa sawdust and five them a card with the address etc. to the customer. I do not stamp everything usually just if I can find a place not real noticable and large enough area.
  6. I would agree with Travis on that. I have it and used it a lot in the beginning. Of course I would not want to disagree with and Administrator. Well actually he happens to be right.
  7. those mini m&m round tube containers hold blades nicely
  8. Look in the archives of some of the magazines may find some I have done over the years but the easiest card holder I found is to place the card between your thumb and index finger and press them firmly together.
  9. that is perfect. that looks almost real with great detail. Wow. Now next up a 100 foot Boa we'll wait no rush when you have a few minutes.
  10. I was there too and now am here. Been busy so not here a lot but check in when I can
  11. Beautifully done. Wow 3 I had enough with completing one, Watch the angels trumpets I don't know how many times I broke the ends off.
  12. Just don't let your wife know you get gifts from another woman, You may find for than just wood being cut on that new saw;
  13. Been there done that more than once. I tend to rush the blade but I am getting much better. There are no mistakes just education
  14. I usually get it from folks who ask do you want some wood. My dad always said if its free take it. I have gotten cut offs from Cabinet shops, recently I got a few 1x4-6 up to 12 foot free. I have a planner and band saw which helps with getting to size. He also had some large slabs with bark. Not sure what I will do with those yet but as dad said if it is free take it. I go to the local Rockler here and they will have cut off oak, walnut other species every once in a while a dollar a board. I recently had a student I precept and her grandfather works at a lumber mill I have been to once and he sent a bunch of cut offs. Also I never turn down old furniture that is broken. Even at work the were remodeling and throughing 2 inch solid Oak out in the dumpster some pieces 6-8 foot long and 6-8 inches wide. So I guess just keep your eyes open and don't be afraid to ask. Just don't beg without crying LOL
  15. I would use the weld bond It seems to hold well. I would suggest first gluing the lower part where it belongs then the other side a little later after it has dried a little first.
  16. Thanks guys for the response. I have done Pediatrics for more than 40 years. and the times they are changing. Kids used to be disciplined as was said right then and there. Now if a parent does that in public authorities are called. If not in public the kids call themselves and report it and then can't figure out when then call and stretch the truth and they end up in foster care how that happened. I would use a swat on the butt when needed not over done and not overdone. Kids always said it hurt there butt but told them it wouldn't hurt their butt cause it was already cracked. Dad always said I am going to kick your butt up around your ears so you can hear me better AND then would proceed to do it. I did learn to hear better and as far as I know I have not killed anyone or have bad feelings toward my parents. Kids have a hard time sorting out right and wrong. The pregnancy rate may be decreased a little but the disease rate is increasing. I have girls as young as 13 to 14 that want to get pregnant I am told so they can have someone love them but they have no idea what they are getting into and of course the guy doesn't stick around, We did have a good trip home and arrived safely. Will mow the grass and take truck in for work then will be in the shop.
  17. I think it would be a good idea to try the spray on scrap and see how it looks then let it set a few days make sure is dry then rub vigorously and see what stays and what don't. My dad always told me if someone puts money in you hand for what ever reason. Promptly close your fingers on your hand and say thank you.
  18. Will be leaving tomorrow night for home from Honolulu. Nice visit but was done with it about 5 days after getting here. visited with daughter, grandkids and son-in-law. My wife thought 2 weeks was a good time limit for the cost. Kids are brats lack of consistent discipline. do you know how many times a day and how many days you can tell the kids the same thing over and over and over not to do. Well at least 50 times and in 2 weeks I have not seen it help we still do the same thing. Kids kind of figured out nobody will do anything about it anyway. I am ready for the quiet of the shop and scroll saw and lathe. It is a long trip but I am excited to get back. Must be old age I like things quieter and slower.
  19. Looks like you got a dollar more than I do and Roly a few pounds more. Retirement is questionable I think depression is more possible.
  20. Great Idea I will have to try that like making the deer.
  21. just a thought did you measure the angle with a battery angle thing of a jig. I have done that and found the angle on the machine is not necessarily the actual angle. I did do 45 degree on the dewalt do not remember the outcome but did think sandit hit like yours. as with other I don't usually to 45's but if I need that I usually do that on the sander if small piece or saw if larger wood
  22. that is fantastic deer cutting. Wow
  23. thanks for finding the post. I was glad to see it. I have the pattern but it is in a small pile that I have named the Scares me to death to do. Now maybe I will move it to the to do list. did you get the sound and light kits. Your work is so great. I like that you were willing to show your plan of making. Thanks.
  24. I Googled this and there seems to be a spray safe for kids, didn't take the time to look at it real close
