  1. Joe I am not going to us wheels but your recommendation is a great idea. Can still have a steady saw and be able to move it easily.
  2. thanks for the support guys. Misery loves company. I think I will be able to salvage it for myself to us but not a seller piece. I will have it on the bench from now on forgot I have trouble holding on to things with arthritis.
  3. Had a disaster today defined as what happens when a fat lady backs up in to a plane propeller. I had finished a project after about 6 hours. looked great and was taking pattern off the wood and it decided to fall to the cement floor. It did not shatter but there are about 8 pieces that are no longer where I cut them. I think I can glue things in place on a backer board and mama has new covered bridge plaque whether she wants one or not. Just can't throw out walnut.
  4. I will do that and see. Thanks for all your help.
  5. Kurt Thank you again that did it I now have it installed. It came with all the fonts I could want. One last question I hope and you hope too. I have inkscape not all the fonts are in that but there are a few more than I had. I am not sure what I do to use a font from open office in inkscape. Sorry I am kind of needed and dense.
  6. Dick question about Open Office. I went to down load and got a message from McAfee that it was held in quarintine and something about Trojan in it and when I went for more infomation It could not find the link to the information and they gave me the link to find the information. I was going to go ahead anyway but was not sure if the security was over sensitive.
  7. Thank you Dick and Kurt I will use your advise wisely I hope. Kevin I notice as I have gotten older easier ways are the best ways.
  8. font question. I found a font I wanted and could down load to my documents but I do not know how to get on the fonts list so it shows up when I choose the list. I do not have Word or office and fonts are limited. I have windows 10 now and Lap top. Thanks for assistance
  9. I have not used that particular brand but have gotten odorless mineral spirits. It was clear and less odor worked well for me and I have used it for years. I can not remember the brand name I use it mainly with BLO. May be just the brand. I will remember not to get Klean brand.
  10. Can be ordered on line, check local saw mills, watch the side of the road for tossed out solid wood pieces. Check dumpsters near construction sites. make stuff give to friends and some times they will give you shelves or other wood they don't want and you can make something nice. I use Menard's as well as Lowes or Home depot. My favorite wood is free.
  11. well spoke to soon, All went well until the end and could not get the cookie cutter result at the end had trouble just selecting the gray and word with difference and will have to try again today. I will get this yet. I thought I had it but not quite.
  12. I am not very good with computers either but think I got it. give it a go. Even if it takes a long time there is nothing like learning something new.
  13. Thanks to Travis and his ability to teach in multipule medias I think I may be ready to make an attempt at doing a intersect word art. I have watched all videos x 3, read lessons x 2 and then went through step by step with the program open and have finished doing everything along side of the video. So now is the time to jump. Did I mention I am a slow learner and need to see in in all forms of learning. Thank you Travis.
  14. That about does it. 6. the more intricate the project the more likely you will accidently drop it and IT WILL BREAK! Of course you just say oh my it broke. Right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. I agree I tried doing with scroll saw when I did not have that size bit but never quite made it right and almost always too large. Like Dan said you can control depth and it looks cleaner.
  16. I am not going to wait until dawn so look over your shoulder. sorry haven't seen a lot about the machines and who is best. I met a guy down the road a few years ago and he had one he enjoyed not sure who made it. I don't do much looking at them because I am a hobbyist and don't get an income that warrants buying one so not paying attention to what is best. Sorry. Certainly would be fun but too costly of a toy for me.
  17. Must be as King of your castle you hold a lot of audiences with your people because I don't see any dust on the floor and Walls. No time to cut?. I wish I could keep mine that clean. Nicely laid out great little place.
  18. Great work. You will find font that work and font that don't so good and ones will come to be favorites to cut
  19. that is some saw. did you just fall the tree and start cutting
  20. I think if you use the glue and put the pattern on the masking tape or equivalent and It stays put to cut and you can get the masking tape off with the pattern without residue then you have your answer use the glue. Glue patterns on the wood ends in more work with residue. I do as the others above and usually have little or no problem but other times it is huge problems. Just have to stop and tape with clear tape and go on. Repositionable glue does come in varying stickiness and some are like real weak. But for less frustration continue with you glue. With the new glue use on non fret work patterns.
  21. Thanks Travis and Gordstor I will look into it. had down loaded Microsoft word back then also and have not done that again either. will think on that.
  22. Is there a better place to down load inkScape over another. I did down load once but my computer was concerned with virus when I did and other things went strange so I just deleted it from the computer. Shortly after the computer kind of got sick and the only thing I could do was reset to factory set up and lost everything. Was able to down load the Microsoft up dates and am able to function again sort of have been afraid to retry. I really would like to do the word art but will have to think about it.
  23. Karl, have dreamed of that but what I have done is bought the inflatable dome ball with 3-4 varied grit sand paper to go on it years ago. I have been able to chuck in into my bench tope drill press and it does work well. My only problem is that the ball decreases in air a little and the sleeve will come off easier. I just finished doing some little bowls for candy in shape of a holly leaf for Christmas and they do work well. And no the will not fit in the dremel I tried it but no way.
  24. That is great Jim. Larry thanks for commenting on the green. I have trouble with colors sometimes and I thought Brown was a strange color for Christmas. Sorry Jim not totally color blind but green and brown are difficult colors for me. Now you know why my wife picks out my clothes.
  25. Thanks to all I will check all those things. From reading it is most likely the tension in the back. I will let up on it and see what happens. I have had issues with that also in that as I scroll for a while it will increase the tension by it self. the white line on the nob starts in one place then will move clock wise as I saw. It seems to have stopped that now.
