  1. I have used these for animal portraits that seem to look best with the bark. I have not tried an inlay great idea Chris
  2. the shape of the board would lend it to a hand saw but finding a pattern that would leave most of the wood intact would be a challenge.
  3. As Al said it depends on whether you go clockwise or counter clockwise but also which way the table tilt is right or left. I can not think for certain where a tutorial may be try looking in this forum. I have to always look it up and I think making a test cut is a good Idea to see if the tilt, direction and degree is right for what you want as suggested before.
  4. I have used all the blades above over time and like the polar the best. The big thing is I keep saying to my self thickere wood slow down, no hurry take your time. That does not always keep me from trying to force the cut but helps. Take breaks to get back to slow patient feed.
  5. Wow Kevin and i thought I was good with 40. I will not give you hard time about no pictures since I can not take photos and if I did I don't know how to post. Never have been able to post over the years. quess not a priority for me or I would learn. But Kevin no wonder you fall asleep just be careful not to drool on the saw it may rust the table.
  6. I noticed the New Jet scrollsaw EXish stule saw. Just crious if anyone had actually seen it and test drove. I use a Ex-21 and a Dewalt so not looking to put $899.99 into another one. Just for future reference after the bugs are out of it. the throat is 22 " and the blade holders are different may be better not sure otherwise it is like the EX line. I found price on the Jet web site.
  7. I do the PVC with cap on top and bottom 5 inches roughly which decreases spillage hate when that happens. I have them in a wood box like with open on front and back and closed on sides. Drilled holes in the in the top to put blades holds 12 tubes. I have it fastented to th leg of the saw stand and it can be moved out of way when sawing and rotated out when need blade. another option I found was they will fit in the mini M&M container tube and it is fun to prepare them for use if the kids don't eat the M's first. Sorry I never can figure out how to up load pic to post and don't even have a photo program anymore.
  8. I am saddened with his passing. I will pray for the family at his time. I had gotten FD blades from him for many years always helpful and kind. He had a son living in my area of Indiana. I remember the first order I sent for so many years ago. I don't think it took an hour after sending it that he called me and knew how to pronounce my name and was speaking Dutch to me. Unfortunately he could have spoken with my dad but I am Dutch only in Name not in language. Dad and grandmother would not teach me Dutch growing up. I will miss him but have fond memories to remember him.
  9. Thanks for sharing that with us. we all can have something to think on for future reference. It is a beautiful piece.
  10. That is nice. Having cut Purple heart and understand the time involved. That is quite a bowl and cutting i am sure was difficult without burning problems. Well done
  11. looks very nice first cutting. I would agree with the rests suggestions. The main thing is to be patient smile and have fun.
  12. I use Loctite 200 I get it from Walmart. I used 100 but did not hold good enough. there is I think a 300 and 400. the higher the number the stronger the stick
  13. thanks all who replied. I replaced the holders and he screws. I was able to compound cut a bird house of walnut without blade coming out and i sure to slow down and let the saw do the cutting. I think we are set for now.
  14. I did changethe holders and thumb and screws which how everiwas cutting 1 1/2 inch red oak and was not beingpatientI thinkthe rest will improve with slowing down the feedand speed. I hopeso any way.
  15. Thanks for the reassurance. I do think the threads are stripped. Thumb screw of new and old just as sloppy when put in to threads. Will get new holders today.
  16. wondered if any one had issue wth blade slippage. I have scrolled for about 20 years and am on mysecond dewalt. Ihad done fine until the blade was coming out when scrolling as happens fro time to tme and did te usual things helped but continued. thought I would replace the thumb screws and set screw. Did that todayand if anything it was more of an issue. I only then noted the thumb screw was wabbally like the inside threads were striped a little and may not hold. So contacted local dewalt repair and will see about trying the new thumb screws in a new blade holder there. repair said it would be fine and he would check some front bearings to see f they may be part of issue free of charge justwodered if others had experience wit it.
  17. That should move some air with dust out.
  18. I have used the bench light magnifier for years and put up with the adjusting. I guess I finally got old and set in my ways, it is second natureto me now. I did use a visor from work and this was nice to use except for 2 things 1. you look like Bell's father in Beauty and the Beast, 2. The surgeon whose visor i borrowed needed it back after the week end.
  19. Did you use a forstner bit or scroll saw to cut the hole? Hard to cut exact size with scroll saw. Yes the rubber gasket is to help fit the clock in the hole. Once i used abit to cut the hole and making it just deep enough to fit the clock if wood thick enough. This gives a nicer look on the back of the work.
  20. thanksall for the advice safety is my number 1 thought. I will look it over closely and I have a good engineer on stand by to go over it with me and see what safety features may be added or not before any use. I am leary ut willing to take as a conversation piece. we will see. it does have a fence.
  21. Well I have an oportunity to get a table saw and it will be delivered to my home. the entire cost is Free. Actually I have a friend whose grandfather built the saw in the 50's actually 2 of them and my friends brother has the other one. He had used it and made things with it. He is setting up his Man Cave and purchased a Craftsman saw and wants to make room. He does not want to sell it but wanted to give it to someone who would take care of it. I don't know what I will do but will keep track of my fingers when or if using it. The table is attaches with piano hinge and fits over the blade. The balde does not move up or down but the table is designed to go up and down. I kind of look at it as a possible simple cut wood to better size or folk art. Not sure what I will do with it but have room so helping out a friend.
  22. They look great any way you look at them. Hope you had a good sale
  23. Sorry edward I have cut the birdhouses with the dewalt no problem with the thumb screw. I have cut the smaller and larger houses. Not sure what is going on.
  24. I would think it is worth a look see. Where ever it is at look for attractions in the area and make and day trip for fun as well.
  25. I have used Purple heart and as mentioned dense use slow speed and let the blade cut use the tape and go for it. I used one piece about maybe 6x10 inches for a wedding gift to my youngest daughter and her new husband with names and date with man and women in the cut as well and flowers. I have a smaller piece left from that and I made my father a Purple Heart medal for him on the desk he has 2 of his own earned in WWII. He was pleased and did not know there was that type of wood.
