  1. I met a older lady at a show in Dec. she bought some things and was impressed with the wood finish. ( doesn't take much to impress some people) anyway we talked and she mentioned her husband passed away a few years ago and milled wood and sold from home. She has a pool barn full of ruff sawn oak, cherry, walnut, and others which she is selling at the same price as her husband did. so 1.50 /bf for lesser woods and 2,50bf for walnut and cherry and 1 dollar less /bf if has knot. She asked if I was interested to call after the holidays so I go look tomorrow and see whats what. she is pretty with it and healthy at 85 so I think she may load it for me too. No I am taking a friend incase I buy some.
  2. I have done a few sets over the years. I usually get the 1 1/2 inch would and place patterns on cover with tape then cut to length straight on the bottom. Then I took 2 pieces of 1x1 wood and cut about 6-8 inches Drilled holes through both ends placing bolt through to put the pieces in and tighten the bolts holding them and making maneuvering easier. The next step is a #7 blade of some sort. Then there is nothing you can do about it but go slow to cut and slow on turns. It does take patience but if you push it then the pieces will have flaws. I use a mop sander on the pieces and finish. Wood selection sounds good
  3. I have a dewalt I bought a few years ago referbished at Rockler and have no regrets. Like Wayne I have replaced the pad was very easy and reasonable cost. My shop vac hooks in to the sander with out trouble. There was a bag on it not sure how long it lasted before tearing.
  4. I made one with the moose and school house and pencil holder for one of my daughters and still has it with reglues. Husband in Navy movers not always real careful.
  5. if it is a floater just floating in space but you want it to be part of the pattern I have looked for where i could draw in an attachment to the rest of the pattern so it will not fall out. That can be difficult sometimes if not done carefully it could ruin the affect.
  6. Well Jerry if you get it don't do it all in one day
  7. That is the one I have had for several years now have been happy with it but did have to make an adjustment when it stopped running about 3 months ago. It was not any of the usual things I found caused it to stop. It was the mother board the high medium and low switches did not work the on of did not work so disconnected and direct wired to plug and put on a chain switch with help from a friend. Now only has high and turns on and of just fine. I did just blow mine out and reuse and have the metal casings. I did one day spray paint and learned not such a good Idea without a different filter. Used black paint and the filter was completely black after the first coat was on.
  8. The above suggestions are fine. I noted that the fuse cover was missing. Not sure when it went missing and could not find it. I did go a head and ordered a replacement fuse assembly which is how it is sold. It was a night mare in waiting for the part finding out the man who was to order it didn't. I was told the part was changed and under a different part number. I could not figure out how to replace it and took it in to the Dewalt service center and see if they could show me how it is done. Well the tech said it is different than the original and they no longer make they other one. This one will not fit in the opening. It is one unit. the tech did put it in but it hangs out and does not fasten solidly into the opening. I just had him change it back and we put a piece of elctrician tape over the opening. The brushes and fuse were fine. He felt the motor was going. Problem is that the motor is at least 250 dollars and I got the dewalt at Rockler on sale for 300 dollars. I have used it since and seems to work Ok now. I have an Ex 21 which I used more but usually switch off every few months. Just a warning they change the outer shell and don't say anything when parts are ordered.
  9. I have not cut much acrylic but I would suggest visiting sloan's. I read their ways of cutting and it went great. I cut out small ornament size humming birds, and others just go slow and I used duck tape on the acrylic without taking the paper stuck to the acrylic off. Before reading the suggestions It was a much slower cut than after I could go faster. It has been years so the techniques may have changed.
  10. congratulations Paul
  11. Thanks all for your help. Grouping was the problem as you all suspected. I have gotten it done printed and cut out. Couldn't do it with out Travis' videos and all you guys. thanks.
  12. Thanks for your help. I will work on this during the week end.
  13. Thanks that seems to work with me too. I seem to get a little farther each time. I will go back and watch the others again too. They help with knowing some key things not in all of the videos. I will make it. At least this time I got the node thing down.
  14. OK I have finally made a pattern with internal names on last name. I was doing Ok but after I finally got all the way to the end and then cleaned it up deleting things with node tool. was happy with it but not sure how to print it out. I find I can no longer move the pattern as one piece to move about the paper area and decide how to break it up to print. When I go to move I can select the last name and it leaves the frist names behind and moves with the white area cookie cutter remaining with the last name. or if I move the first names then they will come apart with a red duplicate and a grey one. I am confused. I will try again because everytime I get closer than the time before. Any explanations of what I am missing or doing to break the union up will be helpful. I am sooooooo close. Thank you
  15. Nicely done John and it is a good cause. I recently have been trying to use the scarps from my compound cuts. I did a bunch of reindeer to put on with sleighs and took the scraps sanded smooth put a little glitter pipe cleaner on the neck and gave to folks at a show I was at. They seemed to like them and remembered me. sorry no pix no camera. some day I hope to be closer to the youngest daughter who is about 1000 miles away right now.
  16. Sorry I have a jet same looks and is in the ceiling where I put it up myself about 10 years ago but was heavy. It just this winter stopped working suddenly. I looked at the usual things that they talked of on the net and it was none of that. The blower was fine but I think the mother board was shot and decided to remove wire up different and is not not 3 speed and does not have a timer but it has a new switch and you can pull the little string and it runs until you shut it off. I like the prices better on the ones you are looking at. My Jet is in the 2 car garage with a car but seems to keep the dust down. I do wear a mask, and use a jet dust collector as well.
  17. Frank I think they look very good and you seem to have caught on to the whole idea. Nice variaty of patterns used. Welcome to the Village.
  18. I will continue to watch the progress as this is used more and more and bugs show up or not. I have always top fed so It would take getting used to for me. I see he did put the arm up and it stayed so maybe won't need a third hand but may need to use your mouth in some copacity swearing now and again if the threading goes poorly.
  19. Merry Christmas to you and all who visit here. Amen Kevin
  20. As Dan said sanding was the way to make it look frosted.. I think Gayle at the Café has done this as well. I found using duct tape on the plexiglass and then adhering the pattern to the pattern to the is. slow speed seems tp stop the melting. Sloan's used to have tips
  21. Merry Christmas
  22. Dave that is what I have been doing and making more successful attempts. Dan that is a nice offer and I may want to take you up on it but would be happy to do the driving there if I don't get this sorted out. After the holidays and wheather better may want to meet up some day anyway. Thank you for the kind offer. I will keep you posted. The teen grand kids are coming for Christmas and are much more learned in this stuff than I and will see what they can figure out if need be and If I can get them to put down the cell phones long enough.
  23. Thanks Jerry I will write these down. I did not know about the save and don't save part good to konw. I have done a lot of edit to get back to where I need to be. I will get this eventually.
  24. Well guys with your incouragement I was able to generate a pattern. Until I cookie cut I get to the delete the node part. I watch it but it goes fast for me so I see the box around the are and it disappears but I do not see what we should click push punch what ever to make it disapear. I saved it and when I went back to it the inner names and the outer (last name) do not seem to like each other and will split apart. I have gotten past where I have joined the "red" name inner and the "black " last name but never to being able to select the gray and cookie cut. However, I seem to do something that does not leave the inside joined to the outside and I can move them as one once then they come apart and I can not get them together. I will give another go at it and see if I can complete it to the end next time. At least I am having fun and I almost have it memorized. well at my age that ain't gonna happen. Just a progress report but if some one can tell me what we hit ti make node area delete that would help. Thank you for encouragement.
  25. It looks like they have put some thought in to this one. Next thing is to see if the change is seen in the Price sticker. If the table is to far out I better stick to my diet better.
