  1. Ray lots of things to consider above. I will add my 2 cents. I keep all my new blades in half inch PVC pipe capped at both ends in a holder with several holes large enough for the pipe and label the size with a black marker. Like most here if I have a blade that I think is done I put in the big plastic Planters peanut container with a hole in the top for discard. Holds about 6 months of blades to toss out. The ones I think have life left I have plastic containers which were full of mini M&M's which you get to eat and then the tube is just big enough for a blade to fit. I label it with the blade number and set it on the bench but instead of having blades setting and hoping to know the size It is known. I always keep a few no use ones in the containers and label used and then they can be used to just cut a piece of wood to size before cutting the actual pattern.
  2. Thanks for the video. This is not his first guitar rodeo. It was a pleasure to watch such a craftsman work. I think I can make one with out any trouble but since I do not play a guitar it is a mute point. Actually I could not finish it in my life time. and I can' t afford to upgrade my tools and make the jigs needed so it I get one I will buy one of his.
  3. Christmas is coming and several stores will be putting them on sale or sale prices on line keep your eyes peeled. last dewalt I got was the regular price 549 and then Rocker put it on sale for 300. Or start hinting in earnest.
  4. I understand Dan the other day I was trying to learn something new and had to forget my name so there was room to learn it. Thankfully reading your remarks I remembered my name again.
  5. I don't think I have the patience to do any of the first ones and certainly have no smarts for the other. Any of them would keep me busy and my grandchildren can finish it.
  6. I used about a Third of a 2 car garage. Had to share other side of garage with a hot water heater Furnace, water softner and washer dryer as well as mama's car which must be in side at night. So all I could was on wheels with frame and foot pedal to put wheel down to move and up when in position. Took car out and worked moved things around and then back again for night time car storage. I had a shed for all the lawn stuff tools gas etc. Snow blower was walk behind and fit either in shed or small corner of garage for winter. I would suggest time to build a work shop I am moving and looking for room to build one or has one. So far no luck. If I find the shop or space for one the house does not meet SWMBO says no to the house. Oh well time will tell.
  7. small holes I do with drill 1/8 inch use scrap backer for tear out. others with blade
  8. Well done and should do well. I have made a couple well actually 4 napkin holders none sold yet but then they are not Christmas theme but cute bears, humming birds , raccoon and squiral
  9. Looks like you got enough info on stopping the vibration. I would quit getting peaches so the dog won't eat the seeds and vibrate either or limit him to 5 or less pits.
  10. I have used when I had it. It was free and I never refuse free It worked well for me and finished as usual. Sorry no pics someday I need to get a camera or a much better phone.
  11. You may be able to mount it on the cross metal on the leg brace of the stand but would need to drill hole in the metal and put a nut and bolt or metal screw in the tab of the foot pedal. At least mine has one. Unfortunately at 6 foot 4 I can reach but my wife is 5 foot one so I understand your pain.
  12. Very nicely done thanks for sharing. If you are putting a backer piece on the first cutting. If you wanted you may be able to take the same wood you used and the O part of the pattern on the wood and re cut it but as Dick said leaving the two attachments then just cut the attachment carefully at the inside top and bottom where they attach then glue in place on the backer board. Just a thought not sure how it would look.
  13. thanks for the web address. I will compare with where I get discs now and see price.
  14. I have had a fret work bible verse from Matthew that I took with me for actually 3=5 years and had a lot of lookers but no takers and kept it at home a couple years and finally decided to take it again. and I gave it to the sponsors of the sale for a door prize. When they presented it to the person who won they announced my name and booth number and gave it to a lady in her 80's who had volunteered there for 40 years and she had tears from the receiving the gift and was very thankful. I had much more traffic, sales orders and questions at my booth than ever. I don't have to carry it around as a non sale any more and I have the satisfaction it is in a thankful home .
  15. Thanks for sharing. Growing up there was a man who did a little of everything farming, and ran a saw mill. This was before OSHA he had a big belt hooked on to the old John Deere well you guessed it his left arm got caught he was alone and lost the left arm above the elbow. did not slow him down and went back to farming and sawing and spearing Carp for fertilizer on the fields smelled but sure made the crops grow. He lived over a 100 as did his sisters who stayed with him. Sorry just old thoughts and reminiscing
  16. If anyone is up to the task it would be you. It may be hard to get some of the dogs looking just right but you can just tell the customer the mother liked to run around at night
  17. Ditto to trackman's response.
  18. I thought the same as Sam watch the weight depends on fabric and stitch. I your Is the Mrs Iggy OK with the storage in her closet instead of her shows.
  19. I sign the back unless too small to work. I have a ink stamp of a handsaw with handcrafted by on top edge of saw and then I sign in center. if I try to put the designed by under it and put the designers name. Have to admit i sometimes forget to do both the sigs. I use a sharpie and then apply Poly of some sort
  20. I was fortunate quite a while ago to get some oak and walnut that had been cut from a friends woods a milled. He did not what the outside parts with bark or small pieces. they had been in his barn for many years and of course fit in my truck nicely. All that to say I took some with the outside bark and chanced planing them. The came out very nice the bark smoothed nicely and the eye like pattern on the bark was great almost feather like and the bark remained without falling off........ for the most part.
  21. Hope things go well. should be good with old cars and if you have cars in wood to match they should like to buy. I would take a special order book thinking some may want to order one like the one they brought
  22. That can be a issue certainly if you are Barney Fife size. Two suggestions work out on upper body and get 2 friends to come with you and let them do the lifting. My totes are good size and heavy but I can manage to slide off truck and on to cart with wheels. Also some of the shows I attend the Boy Scouts, 4H or Church group sponsor and help.
  23. I used to put them in like that but then had to stand on my head so I learned to put them in the right direction. Jim is right it can get pretty bouncy and painful when the fingers get hit. That was going to be my suggestion. I am not familiar with that saw so not sure what else to say.
  24. I have seen a Civil war chess set but not ones like you are looking for. I have cut other's patterns but my brain does not work on compound pattern making. I am moving so all my books are packed and I have one with several designs of chess sets but can not remember the authors name. Maybe someone knows of who this is. It may at least give you ideas of how to do it or he may be of some help
  25. the pattern is done by Wickens or name similar to that I have the pattern but am not home at this time and If I was could not find it since it is packed for a move. I met the designer many years ago at a Scroll saw picnic sponsored by Sloan's. I was not successful in making it correctly but did have something when I was finished.
