  1. Great to see your season end on a high note! Now, get to work on next year's stock.
  2. It doesn't matter if you cut the outline first. If I'm cutting one puzzle I don't always cut the outline but if I'm cutting several from one board I do cut the outline first.
  3. I am currently using FD-UR #5 for these thick puzzles. I'll probably try #3. The puzzle blades are for thinner jigsaw puzzles. I like to sand the edges with a mop sander as it feels better to me.
  4. I use a 50/50 mix of BLO and mineral spirits. Just dip long enough to get all parts wet then remove. I allow the mix to drip the hang or set aside for about 10 minutes. Then I wipe off the excess. If I can't get into the crannies I blow them out with the compressor. There are others that do it differently but that works for me.
  5. The moose pattern was designed by Jim Sweet and published in SSWC magazine several years ago. The labrador and retriever patterns are from a recent purchase. These were cut with FD-UR #5 and finished with one dip in BLO/mineral spirits. Thanks for looking. I'm hooked.
  6. Great idea!
  7. Sweet!! That is a great gift.
  8. Nice works! I like how you did the Beatles. Now is the time to start creating patterns.
  9. Excellent cutting! Merry Christmas back to you and everyone in your village.
  10. A mop sander comes in handy. It easily mounts in your drill press. Dust collection is a great investment. Shop vacs work good but are loud and are not intended for extended use. If your eyes are like mine, invest in a magnifying lamp for your scroll saw. That's my $0.02.
  11. Excellent! The glitter is the perfect touch. Colors are perfect.
  12. Nice! Big cats are cool.
  13. PICTURES, PICTURES! WE NEED PICTURES!!!
  14. The secret is in the process. I stack cut 10 at a time. It takes about 15 minutes to cut one stack. The plywood blanks sell for $2.50. With sanding and finishing I have a total of 30 minutes for 10 blanks. That's $25 for 30 minutes work. The larges order I had was for 130. The hardwoods are a different beast because I mill those. It takes about twice as long but they sell for $4.50 each.
  15. Great design. The wood, looks like oak, is perfect for the word art. The backing really sets it off.
  16. I love the shamrock cross. The child in hands if very touching. Thanks for posting.
  17. Here are some of the patterns I have. I hope this helps. To make the bookmark blanks, I cut a block of wood so one face is about 1.5" by 6". Then I use a bandsaw with a 1/4" , 14tpi blade to slice the blanks to about 1/16" thin. Then to the belt sander they go. I made a jig to hold them. I start with 40 grit to get the bandsaw marks off then sand to 120 grit. This generally takes them to 1/32". After cutting on the scroll saw I hand sand to 320. Sometimes I add two coats of poly sometimes I leave them with no finish. It depends on my mood. Bookmarks 1.pdf Bookmarks2.pdf Bookmarks3.pdf
  18. I know Walmart sells adhesive-backed felt. If you can't find any you could stick these to cardboard. I'm sure someone else will come through for you though.
  19. I have a dozen or so bookmark patterns. I'll send them to you or post here after work. I mill mine to about 1/32" or sometimes use 1/32" plywood.

  21. Great idea. How many 2 x 4s did it take? And... BRING ON THE SNOW!

I'm using FDUR #5. I may experiment with other blades at some time, but the puzzle pieces fit well and I currently have no other use for my #5 blades.

Dang Iggy, you must be retired. I think I'll make 20 or so and see how well they do around here. I will admit, it doesn't take as much time as I thought it would to cut them. I do run them under the mop sander and that makes all the difference. Do you put a finish on them?
  24. Steve will offer a backup prize if the winner has the vases books. Hey, we try hard to accomodate.
