  1. That's cool! At first I thought it might be Randy's work but then I saw that this guy does it with a hand fretsaw. Very good work.
  2. Roly, do you have any plans for it yet? If you plan to use slices, then I'd slice it now and have it stabilized. You can get stabilizing materials at Woodcraft. Basically it's a resin that you soak the wood in (it works best if it's in a vacuum chamber) and it will hold everything together. If you plan to use it for scrolling, the stabilizing will eat up your blades. Spalted wood is great for making pens.
  3. Beautiful!! Excellent cutting. I can't blame the wife for wanting to keep it. Where did you get the pattern?
  4. Great idea and you did a great job on the display.
  5. Excellent cutting and great pattern. Reminds me of Walter Brennan from The Real McCoys.

NIce job! I agree with Roly. It would look awesome left on the board.
  8. BLO done not have a bad or strong smell. It does bring out the grain and may darken the wood some. How dark depends on the wood. You can apply other finishes over the top of it. It will take several days or even a week to dry. You can thin it with mineral spirits.
  9. Excellent job! I have that on my to-do list.
  10. Those came out great! I really love working with walnut.
  11. Great job and nice story. That is the most detailed pattern that I've seen. Can you share it or is it someone else's pattern?
  12. Love it! You did an excellent job.
  13. What an excellent idea Martin. I'll have to keep that in mind if I do any portraits like that.
  14. I also use a dust mask and have a fan/filter set up. I thought about getting Delta filter system that mounts to the ceiling but some of the dust particles get caught up in that gravity thing and will fall to the ground. I set my fan/filter next to my saw with the bottom of the fan about 6" below the table and it seems to collect most of the dust. I still have to vacuum after a large project and try to do it daily at a minimum. Before I wore a dust mask, I was happy with just the fan/filter but noticed sometimes I blow my nose and the tissue is black. I figured I was still inhaling some dust, so the mask is worn every time I scroll now.
  15. That came out great. What is your new saw?
  16. Merry Christmas! The cross is outstanding. Great detail. Who's design is it.
  17. I try to make ornaments every year for my kids. One of my boys got married this years and when I saw Keefie's First Christmas Together ornament I asked him to design one for my son. This is the result. A GREAT BIG "THANK YOU" KEEFIE! I stack cut it out of 1/8" BB ply and put mahogany veneer between two pieces. I rushed to get the finish on so it's not perfect but it still looks nice. The picture was taken with my phone, sorry.
