  1. Looks great! How big is it?
  2. I hear ya doc. I was the same way. My wife made me do a craft show to pay for my addiction and it was a lot more fun than I thought. Most folks are friendly and if you give them a "good morning", they will eye your goods a little longer...and maybe buy. When I started getting customers that actually looked for my booth, it put me on cloud 9. At that point, the money just became an after thought (sort of). Good luck and just have fun!
  3. Top-notch job Helen!!
  4. Hi Elizabeth and welcome aboard. There's so much you will learn here from all talent. I know I've learned a lot. One thing about thicker hardwoods, after you apply your pattern to the wood, wrap it with clear packing tape. Some hardwoods like cherry will burn during cutting and the packing tape will lubricate the blade and reduce the burning and possibly increase the life of the blade. That's my 2 pennies. I'm sure others will chime in soon.
  5. Cool pen. Can't wait to see more of them.
  6. That's what my wife thinks. I'm working on items for next Christmas. I made some of these trees a few years ago. My thought is to leave them unfinished and sell them cheap. The selling point will be to let the kids paint and decorate them. I'm thinking of using some small scraps to make tiny ornaments to decorate the trees (but not sure how that will work). I think I'll have a few decorated different ways to give customers some ideas. And one of the great things about these is, they can be taken apart and laid flat for storage. The three sizes shown are 6", 5", and 4". I stack six pieces of BB ply and cut. Takes about 30 minutes to cut and sand the pieces to make 6 trees. I will put the pattern in the pattern forum. Comments or other ideas always welcome.
  7. Nice pens Jim. I had the same troubles drilling pen blanks so I bought a 4-jaw chuck for the lathe and drill with it. Much easier and faster and dead center every time.
  8. Nice cutting Marvin. And Pabreu did a nice pattern, too.
  9. Great work.
  10. Marshall, you did a fine job on both the pattern and the cutting. I'm sure he will cherish it.
  11. Dude, that looks cool! Great job!
  12. Everything Travis said plus make sure your blade is 90 degrees to the table. If it's off enough, those bridges will look fine on top, but some of them will be thin and possibly break on the bottom of the stack.
  13. Flying Dutchman are excellent blades. For 1/8' to 1/4" I use #1 and #3 blades for detailed cuts. I have #5 and #7 on hand for thicker work.
  14. Beautiful work! There's another bit of inspiration. Thanks.
  15. I was looking over my stock of hardwoods and got to thinking...in Kentucky some of our local hardwoods that I use are walnut, maple, black cherry, osage orange, locust and oak. Just curious what other locations call local hardwoods. I'm interested in hearing from folks all over the world. Thanks.

  18. Those came out great!
  19. Beautiful boxes! I really like the K box. Excellent!
  20. That's a cool idea Mike. Did you slice the wood yourself? Is it planed or sanded? We have lots of walnut around here and I've been wanting to try something like that.

That's an extremely attractive design. I like it a lot.
  22. I make most of mine out of 1/8" hardwoods (walnut, purpleheart, maple, cherry, etc). It's a bit more expensive than plywood but people seem to like them more.
  23. I use 1/8" because it fits in many store-bought frames and I can stack cut more if I want.
  24. Great job. That sassafrass is beautiful stuff.
  25. Nice looking sign. I really like the green behind the letters.
