  1. Beautiful work!! Gotta try doing this one day..
  2. Awesome Work!! Those are beautiful.. I did some inlay several years ago.. but nothing that nice, LOL.. I'd like to try many new things.. ie inlay ( again ) and always wanted to try intarsia.. but somehow.. my fretwork style clocks and ornaments keep me hoppin..
  3. I read something on another forum about someone having an issue with their new King saw.. rather than deal with repairs etc.. King just mailed them a new saw... sounded to me like they are standing behind their saws pretty well in my opinion.. Read this on one of the FB groups..
  4. Don't think you can actually purchase the Excalibur from Home Depot anymore.. while it still shows on their website.. noticed there is no option to add to shopping cart etc.. I've been told that the Ex / King saw will be available from Home Depot soon.. but I don't know how creditable that statement was or if the person even knew what they was talking about.. If you're not in any hurry I'd maybe wait it out a while and see if the King brand might bring in the 21" saw.. which is kinda what I was doing until I come across the brand new Ex-21 last week on craigslist.. Maybe keep an eye out for a good use or maybe even new on craigslist like I did.. Had I not found mine I was planning to purchase a new King after the holidays was hoping they'd get the 21" one in.. I've heard they are supposed to be getting them in.. again.. I don't know how true that is.. if they wasn't in when i was ready to buy I was going to go with the 30 ( I think ).. The 30 is really overkill for my needs but the 16 could limit me on some ( very few ) on my projects..
  5. Which one of the HF stands fits the Ex best? I have some extras of the smaller stand they sell as I bought 6 of them at a yard sale.. I used three of them for drill press, grinder, belt-disc sander, and jointer.. I bought one of the bigger ones for the planer.. Suppose if the smaller stands mounting surface is too small I could cut a piece of leftover 3/4" osb I have and mount that to the stand and then the saw to the osb.. That is how I had done the other things mounted to those stands I picked up because the base of those other tools was too small to mount them the way I wanted.. However those smaller stands do not have height adjustments I don't think? maybe they do.. I'll have to look.. The larger one I have my planer mounted to is not a very sturdy stand.. well I should say it's sturdy but the legs ( adjustable feet or leg extensions ) are springy and the planer bounces all around.. can't imagine trying to scroll on that stand.. It's fine for the planer though..
  6. I keep walking past the box with my new Ex-21... and thinking about how large it is.. I'm thinking the stands I have aren't going to be big enough.. I'd like to take a trip to my local woodcraft store and pick up a stand for the Ex-21.. but that said.. they are only selling the King in the 16" and the 30" so the web site shows the stands for the 16" and the 30" obviously.. I've read somewhere while doing research that the 16" and the 21" use the same stand.. Assuming the stand is still the same.. ( don't know why they'd change it if they still plan to sell the King in the 21" ).. Anyone on here have both a E'x-16 and a Ex-21 that could verify whether these stands are the same or not? I see Seyco web site still offers the stand for the Ex-21.. I suppose I could just order that.. but in my mind.. I'm itching to set this new saw up.. and thought I'd make the hour drive to woodcraft to get a stand, LOL.. Honestly shouldn't take the time off to play with it until I get the bulk of my orders done.. but.. not sure it's going to be possible to wait until the new year when things slow up a bit anyway
  7. Sister in law lives in San Antonio, Father in law is in Nixon.. and when we visit we usually stay in Seguin.. Of all the times I've been there.. most times the temps was bearable other than the last time we stayed when it was 105 - 120 every day we was there.. believe that was either 2010 or 2011..
  8. That is AWESOME!!! Way to go to all those who partook in this.. Wow!! 100 puzzles!..
  9. I think most cans now days do have the liners.. and they are actually hard to see.. Think they coat them with some sort of spray in liner.. so it's very thin and hard to tell.. There is no harm in using a regular cooking pan either.. just wash it out good.. but then.. I also do use a dedicated pan I picked up at a yardsale.. anyway.. both the mineral oil and the beeswax is not harmful if ingested. which is why many use this for toys.. LOL
  10. Not sure what part of Texas you are from... all heck it doesn't matter because no matter where in Texas.. way to hot for me in the summer.. My father in law lives in Texas.. back in 2010 or 2011 when we was there.. 120F.. went to a small swim hole off FM1117.. believe it was called Guadaupe river? water felt like a hot tub or sauna.. no cooling down from that water.. Father in-law likes to joke with me and we was talking gardens and what I grow in mine.. I mentioned potatoes.. he was trying to tell me that when you dig them up in Texas.. they are already baked, LOL.. after spending 4 weeks there in August I almost believe that..LOL..Oh... you can keep the fire ants and scorpions down that way too.. LOL I'll stick to this cold weather area.. easier to put more cloths on.. in the heat.. there is only so many cloths to remove, LOL
  11. My high today according to the weather on my phone says 27F and that is about where it's at now.. 10F warmer tomorrow and then next week looks to be back to the mid 40's.. I don't mind working out there in the mid 30's +.. but this below 30's is too cold for me.. while I say this.. when the dead of winter comes and all we get is in the teens.. 25 feels pretty darn good, LOL... funny how that works.. but next spring..in 40's I'll be taking my coat off.. but mid 40's in the fall.. can't get enough cloths on.. LOL.. I think at some point.. I'll block off an specified scroll sawing area to heat.. I do have a little propane tank mounted radiant heater that I run next to me that helps tremendously... but would love to just have a small area that stays heated to 40 - 45 degrees..
  12. LOL, Have fun grading wax.. it goes quite hard compared to grading cheese.. I'd opt for the pellets.. but that's your call... I got my 5lb block about 4-5 years ago.. and it's just about gone.. can't wait to be lazy and do it the easy way, LOL
  13. Taking a warm-up break.. was 17F when I went out to the shop this morning.. been working on the custom ordered clocks I got the other day.. Not due to ship until late next week so I'm just taking my time on them in this cold.. though it is getting better out there pretty quickly as I've been out there for about 2.5 hours and looked at the thermometer before left the shop and it's up to 25 now.. Might take the rest of the day off as I have a big plumbing job to do here in the house.. have to take the wall out to get too it.. why doesn't anyone make access panels for things like this I'll never know.. will be one when I'm done.
  14. I'd think since the baby oil is no more than mineral oil it'd be the same quantity as those I mention above.. I'm not sure on the exact size of my containers I use.. but my mixture makes enough to fill up 2 and just a small amount in the third container.. Thinking the containers are pint sized ones..
  15. Yes, Thank you to all who have served or are serving our great country.. I've never supported the sports so not watching will be a normal day for me and the News Media.. is going to start getting that same attention from me.. The way the news people have to get ranking on stories sometimes make me wonder if they don't have their hands in a lot of the stuff they report.. Sort of like paying off a hit man to do something at a certain time etc so they can report first.. because they know it's going to happen, LOL... Crazy world we live in.. thankful not only for the military but the police, fire, EMT's and Nurses
  16. I also enjoy all the people and knowledge here on the village.. I've been a member of many many forums over the years and non compare to the village.. I thank all of those who take part in making this the best site.. first and for most Thanks to Travis for keeping up with all the required things to keep the place running smooth.. But not only to just Travis.. but everyone that takes part in discussions along the way.. without the discussions that go on here.. the site would be quite boring.. On a side note.. I recently joined a couple of FB groups for CNC laser cutting... Wow.. what a bunch of rude people there.. ask a question and they bite your head off and tell you to use the search function.. If someone ask about a pattern they go off on you about wanting to be a free loader looking for free patterns or advice.. I was in awe when I seen how some of these guy were..
  17. I personally don't recommend pegas blades for a beginner.. they are quite aggressive blades for a beginner in my opinion.. I personally recommend a flying duchman ultra reverse.. they cut most anything you want to cut.. just depending on what you are cutting as to the size you'd want to use.. I've used a lot of the Olsen blades too years ago.. and about the only one I like from them is the PGT series.. and the Mach speed not too bad.. My issue with the PGT is.. they are somewhat aggressive like a Pagas blade.. but.. the downfall to them is the smallest size I've ever seen is a number 5.. and the ends of the blades are bigger than the actual blade.. so getting them through smaller pilot holes is sometimes tough and I end up bending the blade sometimes.. Those Mach blades aren't bad blades.. but they do cut on a steeper angle that I'm used to.. Over the years of seeing these type of post about what blades to use.. it seems to me there are more people happy with FD blades than any of the other brands.. not to say the others are bad.. but just saying I think by choice.. more people's go to blade is FD... I keep on hand.. FD blades .. in many styles and sizes.. but I also keep a few sizes of the Pegas MG blades as well as Olsen PGT blades.. Sometimes I just like to switch things up... and remember why I like my FD & Pegas blades... LOL
  18. I do something similar... except usually once I set the timer.. one of the kids come out to ask me something or the wife comes out and starts talking.. had a few blades I had to trow out that never even got use Hahaha.. then I started just using a blade until its not cutting as it should.. depending on the wood.. some blades I can get 30min.. and others 5min.. so I just run them until I feel like I'm having to push though harder than I should.. Now.. on delicate work.. I do change them often.. like you say.. a bad blade can ruin several hours worth of work and some lumber real quick..
  19. I use beeswax and mineral oil on most all my work other than my portraits.. why I use it? because there is no strong smell.. and.. once applied I can package the item right away and ship it out.. I bought a 5lb. block of beeswax ( would get pellets next time ) I mix 1/2 cup packed firm shaved ( I use a cheese grader.. try it then you'll see why I say I'll get pelleted next time LOL) to a 16oz bottle of mineral oil.. and as stated above cook it up just enough to get the wax melted..WARNING: use a cooking thermometer that clips onto the pan and set it 1/4" above the bottom of the pan.. DO NOT let the temp get above 150F as the oil and wax can cause a flash fire.. I put it into some plastic containers and let it cool then screw the tops on for storage. When dried it turns into a paste type wax.. I like it a little thinner.. first time I made it.. I think I use 1/2 cup to 8oz mineral oil and it set up pretty solid.. I used to pack the wax quite firm.. now not quite so much.. If it get too solid add more oil and cook it again or vise versa.. I apply it to my work with small metal handled acid brushes from Harbor Freight.. Try to push it into the cutouts as best I can but what can't get back in the small areas.. I leave a little glob of it.. then take a hairdryer / heat gun and heat it slightly to melt the wax into the areas.. while it's still all melted.. I use paper towels to wipe off the excess and also somewhat polish it.. I use the blue shop type towels as they work better.. get a big bundle several rolls from our local Sams club..
  20. Well this time I'm going to take some pictures of the saw boxed and un-boxing.. When I bought my Hawk 226 Ultra back in May I was soo excited to put it together I didn't take any photos to prove that it was brand new in the box when I bought it.. Funny thing is I was planning to buy one of the new named Ex's ( King ) from woodcraft after the holidays.. I maybe would have already bought one.. but I was waiting for them to get the 21" one in stock.. which never happened. I usually keep an eye on Craigslist and other sites for a steal of a deal.. but for the last month I had not done so.. Then my son was looking to buy something and I got on craigslist to help him look and there was the EX.. just posted within the hour.. I'm thinking as busy as I've gotten since the first of this month.. I doubt I'm going to get time to get it set up.. I am working on 7 different custom orders.. plus have already sold out on several ornaments.. I normally am not this busy until after Thanksgiving.. going to be an interesting year.. Thanks everyone for the comments and tips.. gotta get out to the shop to work now..I might fire me if I'm late to work again gave myself a verbal warning yesterday Hahaha..
  21. Sounds like a nice order to do.. I do know the feeling of not really wanting to cut something again.. so I feel for you on that aspect.. I have a couple companies I do ornaments for every year.. last year they wanted 300 ornaments that had a piece of heavy equipment on it with the companies name.. The first 100 or so wasn't too bad... but man... I tell you.. I was sure glad to cut that last stack of them.. felt like I was never going to get them done.. Nice fat wallet on that job though...
  22. Very nicely done.. I like it.. finding pine without a knot is like finding a four leaf clover.. sometimes LOL
  23. I just got back home with it.. Yes.. I opened the box before paying.. and told the guy about my friends deal with his $70 brick, LOL.. came with foot switch etc. but no stand.. I feel I got ripped off now.. I have a couple stands I picked up at garage sales a year or so ago.. guy had several of them at $2ea.. and I bought all 6 of them.. just not sure the saw will fit on them... that saw looked huge in the box.. I had to take a double take on it to be sure it wasn't a EX30.. So.. The guy I bought it from says his dad claims that Home Depot is going to start selling these.. I told him that they don't make the saw anymore and he said yeah he knew that.. but they are supposed to start making them again and having them on Home Depot's web site.. Must be his dad works on the H.D. web site or something by the way this guy was talking.. Seem like he knew what he was taking about..
  24. I had a co-worker that bought a $70 brick once like this, LOL
  25. I actually hope to keep my Hawk 226 Ultra but hope to sell the Hawk 220VS.. I don't need both Hawks and have rarely used the 220 since I bought the 226.. As for the Excalibur.. Yeah I've been wanting one ever since I tried the one years ago.. just haven't found the right deal at a time that I actually have any cash I'm hoping I like it as much as I did years ago when I tried one.. mind you.. I only did a couple test cuts so.. once I "really" try it.. never know.. maybe I'll end up keeping the Hawks and selling the Excalibur, LOL
