  1. I used mine exactly as pictured, routing an edge profile on stock where the bit will not clear bench without being elevated. I have two additional sets of risers that are shop built. I've not used 'bench cookies' for scroll work.
  2. Always nice to get a simple straight ahead review. Thanks.
  3. Great job, a lot more than just the scroll work. You should really treat yourself to the books. Remember all the characters, places and plots came from the mind of Tolkien, so get it all in his words. And you should start at the beginning and read the Hobbit. My wife and I read the whole series to our kids as bed time stories. I wish I had grandchildren to read to.....
  4. Always amazed by you work!
  5. Very nice!
  6. I'm sure it's only because I'm old or stupid, but I'm unclear what pieces are being glued to what. I guess I'd have to see them disassembled. Often when I have an odd shaped piece to be glued I keep the off-cut and use that as a clamping caul. If the caul wants to slide away under pressure I will use pressure sensitive sand paper on the stock to keep it from sliding. I've cut up and used those pads that go under rugs to keep cauls from moving too. And I've called my wife to the shop to help, some glue-ups need more hands. And I've used painters tape to hold cauls in place while I work the clamps. When I clamp edging I just use painters tape instead of clamps.
  7. Excellent work. I love the beading on the frame, the choice of contrasting woods, the cutting/fit and the way the grain works. Cathedral grain on the oak contrasting with the walnut running horizontally. It all works really well.
  8. What's not to like about snow if you don't have to shovel it or drive in it? Shoveled my 5" today. It was about 5°. It's warmed up to 12°, but it supposed to get really cold tomorrow. I was walking through the woods with the dog last night and with the desiccated snow it sounded like I was walking on Styrofoam. Just loud 'squeaks'. So much nicer to walk on new fallen snow when the temps around 25°, nice and quiet with just a 'crunch' sound. Always amazed at how loud it is to walk on snow. You'd think it would be quiet?
  9. That molding is just poplar crown molding I purchased at a lumber yard. All I did was cut the miters and pin it to my frame. Duck soup Ralph. You might find it a HD or Lowes.
  10. Here's one I made recently. It turned out really nice and wasn't too difficult. Here's the link where I described the build. I added one pic to this post after it was installed. I can provide more info if you'd like, just PM me. http://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/topic/25764-floating-display-shelf/?tab=comments#comment-282357
  11. It came out great, now all you need to do is make a floating display shelf that will show it off.
  12. I subscribe to Woodsmith Magazine and Wood Magazine. I thumb through Scroll Saw Woodworking and Crafts at the store, if I find a project/article I'm interested in I'll pick up that issue.
  13. I use tack cloths quite often and never had an issue with finishing. Sometimes I will wipe down a project with naptha, it flashes off a lot faster than mineral spirits.
  14. I've always gotten what Rocker sells. Thin and medium viscosities and their spray accelerator. I'm usually pretty happy with their stuff. Once exception has been their saw blade / router bit cleaner.
  15. I always use a sacrificial backer when drilling through.
  16. Very nice. Fitting tribute to a lost pet and that green really makes the cutting pop.
  17. Absolutely stunning. A true heirloom project.
  18. Very fine work.
  19. I don't know? There is PRECIOUS little glue surface, it appears to be end grain to end grain, and it will be hard to clamp. Maybe use painters tape to hold it together while the glue sets. You don't mention the type of wood but I'd try Weldbond, just because it dries clear. Good luck.
  20. Definitely a 3 pointer!
  21. Very nice work and great finishes. I happy to see I'm not the only one who works with mdf. It's a practical material if reasonable precautions are taken.
  22. Wonderful that you saved this valuable tool from a scrapper. Cleaning something like that is a lot of work, but I think it's worth it. Nice job!
  23. Very nice. It's all very unique.
  24. No issues here.
