  1. I buy the 1/4" plywood from lowes. I have used the birch and maple but haven't tried the oak yet. It's $20 for a 4 by 8 sheet. It cuts great and I have never had any problems even on very fine detailed work.
  2. Awesome work Larry. The wife and I love bird houses.
  3. Some say it's not good for the saw but I tightened the bottom screw just enough to hold the arm up. Now it stays up just like the EX.
  4. Very nice Roly.
  5. The biggest advantage for me buying patterns is I really suck at making them myself.
  6. Cut the black. I also start in the center at the most delicate spot and work my way out to keep the small parts from breaking off.
  7. I use the FD new 3/0 spirals.
  8. I am a bottom feeder so that wouldn't bother me. I'm skeptical about the top blade clamp grabbing the blade and tensioning with just the flip of one lever. Not sure how long that would last.
  9. I find the faster I try to run the more mistakes I make. I run my DW 788 on number 4. It cuts a little slower but gives me better control.
  10. I just typed in www.mikesworkshop.com and it took me right there.
  11. I built a stand out of 1.5 inch angle iron. It's welded together. It's fairly heavy and very sturdy.
  12. Like others if there are small circles in the pattern I will use the right size drill bit. As far as the outside of the pattern being round I cut that with the scroll saw.
  13. I use the clear package tape. I stack cut and the tape has to hold the three pieces of plywood together while I saw.
  14. I bought some at Woodcraft and didn't care for them. They didn't last as long as FD and they broke more often.
  15. You can download free patterns from the pattern library here. There are also some practice patterns Travis made to help with straight lines, curves and angles. Sorry I probably won't be any help with blades. I use the Flying Dutchman new 3/0 spirals on almost everything I cut. Some people like spirals and some hate them.
  16. Very nice Ron.
  17. I use the FD new 3/0 spiral to cut almost everything. I cut up to 3/8" hardwood with them.
  18. I have a small Jet lathe. It won't do anything longer than 15 or 16 inches. I mostly do pens but am thinking about getting into bowls soon. There was a time I wish it was larger.
  19. I think you will be very happy with the DeWalt. I have been using one for around three years and am very happy with it.
  20. Both are very nice. I love crosses.
  21. Very nice work.
  22. I also use 1/4" plywood. All of my portraits and fretwork are 12 by 12 or 12 by 16 so hardwood wouldn't work too well.
  23. Congrats on the new saw. Sounds like a winner.
  24. Very cool Iggy. Thanks for sharing.
  25. Welcome to the village Theresa.
