  1. I am so glad you picked us as a site to go to and join up with. New people here are always more than welcome and a pleasure to get to know. I hope to see you around here often I like the things you chose to cut and I expect we will be seeing much more from you soon. So I send a Welcome to you from sunny and warm Arizona Dick heppnerguy
  2. Here is a pattern that was requested from my wife's cousin. I only have about 3 or 4 more to complete. I will keep posting them until I am all caught up, just so you know I have not fallen down on my job. These are all Christmas gifts for this coming Christmas, so I guess I have a jump on a few of you people out there. If I remember right, this is a pattern made by grampa a while back and it available in our free patterns here in The Village. Dick heppnerguy
  3. Keep up the good work. The more you do, the easier they become. Dick heppnerguy
  4. That is a nice pattern you choose to cut and you nailed it. It makes me want to cut one of these also. Way to go. Looks really good Dick heppnerguy
  5. Paul, we have talked about this clock many times over the phone. I guess I will not have to burn the one I made, as long as you are calling it quits. It had to be all in the wood choice, it sounds like to me, as you are one of the best scrollers I know of, anywhere. I can't wait to come visit you again in July. You did a fabulous job on the clock and I know I do not come even a little close to your skills. But I have to say, because of you, I think I have improved and try harder to put out some decent projects, (most of the time). Sorry you gave up on it but I think you have alerted all of us to not use Cherry for 1/8th inch fret work. We all feel your pain, and to think it was over something you would have surpassed anything I could ever had done if you would not have chosen the Cherry wood to do it in. See you in about 3 months, my friend. Dick heppnerguy
  6. I also love your western patterns. You sure have mastered that pattern making skills. A truly great piece. Is this any old western person I should know? Dick heppnerguy
  7. You are really making those puzzles. I can see why, as they are all looking quite good Dick heppnerguy
  8. A very nice pattern and extremely well cut. I like that word pattern a lot. Might go check it our on her web site Dick heppnerguy
  9. I would love to hear from you again. Let me know if there is anything I might be able to do for you. Dick
  10. Funny thing about your fishing remarks. I worked for a wholesale sea food company for 40 years before I retired in 2012. We were allowed to take home enough fish for our family dinner, once a week. I rarely ever did so. Now as I get older i find that I am getting tired of beef, chicken and pork. I find it really boring. So now, whenever I go into a restaurant, the first thing I check out is the sea food. I can understand why people do not like fish, as there are way too many really bad fish items for sale and a poor quality piece of fish is so 'fishy' tasting that I do not see how anyone can eat it. Maybe that is why so many people use a lot of tartar sauce on their fish. However, sea food has some much variety to choose from. Clams, oysters, scallops, muscles, shrimp, lobsters, crab, and a lot of different fish to choose from and all have a different flavor. It is just the matter of knowing which sea food item is mild and good tasting and which to avoid. I live on a lake that is 3 feet from my patio. I have not fished in it for a couple of years but I spend many mornings sitting on my patio and feeding the fish and turtles in the mornings. Before we moved to Arizona, we lived in Eastern Oregon where our house overlooked a reservoir and I fished it a lot. I used to catch and release because I did not care enough for the fish I was catching to clean and eat more than maybe to times a year. Thank you for your comments and keep in mind, the right sea food choices can be really good and tasty Dick heppnerguy
  11. If the bear does get a name it will have to come from the babies mouth. That sure would make it more of a good memory for this new little one coming into our family soon. I will suggest that very thing to my granddaughter Dick heppnerguy
  12. the bandanna i just jotted it with a fine brush and a couple of colors of paint. I am not very talented so it was about all I could come up with. It sounds like a good time to make something for grandson to remember you from when he gets old like us. You should find his deepest love and concentrate on making the best possible piece of scrolling that is related to that love. I would love to have had something like that from my grandfather, now. Sadly I do not. It sounds like I need to remember you and your wife in my prayers once more. So many people come up that eventually we sometimes can't remember all of them. I will pray for you two tonight when I go to bed. God bless both of you Dick heppnerguy
  13. Our Granddaughter is going to be having her first baby in a couple of months. Her husband is a hard working cowboy. He herds cows and mends fences and ropes, you know all the cowboy things. My granddaughter buys, breaks and sells horses for her income and does quite well with that. She has ridden and owned horses since she was able to walk. Her mother was also that way growing up and also today. With that background, I asked her if she had a theme going for her new babies bedroom. Of course, it is a country theme. I decide to make a 'cowboy Teddy Bear' to give to her for the babies room. I used a JGR pattern and modified it so it fit with my purpose. I know from my granddaughter's rodeo time, barrel racing, (which she still does) that the belt buckle is an important thing in her and her husbands life, so I had to make one with a horse on it. I used bloodwood, Aspen, and Cedar to make it. The Bloodwood, I found to be quite dense and took extra effort to shape and sand, but since it was the main part of the bear, I had to keep at it until it was as I wanted it to be. I believe it should add and interesting touch to the babies room and I hope one the baby will grow to cherish even after I am gone. I know, I would have loved to have something my grandfather made for me, but I do not. Anyway, here is the first piece of intarsia I have made in quite some time and I may try another once I get my ordered items done. Dick heppnerguy

As you already know, the people here in The Village are friendly. helpful and appreciative of all those that have chosen us to be a site to join up with. Take the time to really look around as ther are a lot of things to see here. Check out our pattern library as there is a lot there to download and cut for free. Hope to see you around a lot from now on Dick heppnerguy
  16. Denny, This is not for her,,,,It is for her son. I am glad I did not make that kind of error. Thanks for pointing that out to me, as it could have been a error, indeed Dick heppnerguy
  17. I believe Pine is too soft a wood for trying to cut well on a scroll saw. Your blade choose was too large also. If I were going to cut something similar to what I posted above, I would use 1/4 to 3/8 inch maximum thickness and use the Pegas 3MG or even down to a 1 MG blade. Go slow and do not push your wood but rather let the blade to the cutting. I would put my saw speed about 1/3 speed for control. Not too slow but not very fast either. Let me know how things are going for you with the Maple and the #3 blade you are using Dick heppnerguy
  18. One more down another drying on the workshop table. Should be able to post it tomorrow, I hope This is another of the request pieces from a cousin for Christmas presents. This is also a Steve Good pattern that she picked when she was with us a couple of weeks ago. I have to say, it was a fun and easy one to cut and I found that I enjoyed it when it was finished. I would have never chosen to cut it just from looking at it on Steve's page, but now I have to say, I am glad she did choose it. Dick heppnerguy
  19. Get knocking out the scroll pieces... make the heart warm and fuzzy Dick heppnerguy
  20. I love the spiral blade experts here in The Village. One can not match the quality and ability to cut such delicate frets with a flat blade. I use them occasionally with success and occasionally without success. Not sure why I seem to do them one pretty well one time and not the next. I guess it boils down to practice...practice...practice. Great job on this piece Old Joe, as well as all that you post. I believe I saw this one done at Scrappile's house that last time I visited with him. Very interesting and challenging pattern Dick heppnerguy
  21. wouldn't the kids doing Karate love one of these inspiring pieces? Very creative Dick heppnerguy
  22. Wow those are really well done and beautiful boxes. Outstanding work. Dick heppnerguy
  23. this one is really a nice pattern when seen in life. I understand what you are talking about but this one does not look that way when seen in person. Really..... Dick heppnerguy
  24. What blade and what was the wood you were trying to cut? I often has a lot to do with success or failure. Dick heppnerguy
  25. I just purchased some parts for my Excaliburs and it helped so much. Ray is a very good guy to deal with. I can't believe how much better my Excalibur is performing now. I replaced the upper blade holder and the set screws and knobs and now I barely clamp the blade with almost no pressure on them at all, and they NEVER slip. Love it. Dick heppnerguy
