I am so glad you did not give up on scrolling as you obviously have the skills to do about anything you want. What a nice design and execution on this . Congratulations for this nice accomplishment Dick heppnerguy

What a fun plaque you made for your friend. He will cherish it for sure. It will have so much meaning behind it Dick heppnerguy

I love your plaques. they are all terrific. I often think that I should make some local sports plaques, using your technique Dick heppnerguy

great job on some delightful patterns. They are very well done and certainly worthy of your time Dick heppnerguy

Well, the credit does not belong to me. I did help him to understand a few things that were a little confusing with the pattern, but Ralph did all the great work. I am so proud of him as many have the pattern, which has been on the market for years, and hesitate to give it a go. That is really understandable to me, as I too have a lot of patterns that I really want to cut but have not yet gotten around to doing them. I was glad that I was able to encourage Ralph and give him a few tips along the way, but once he got underway, I knew there was no turning back. It is the patterns with a lot of fret work that looks almost impossible to cut, but it also those patterns that make non scrollers wonder how it is possible to even do it at all. Once someone pushes their envelope and spends the time to cut a pattern like this clock, they come out learning they can cut about anything out there, that they see. It also makes it possible to have the feeling of success that they didn't realize they had the ability to do. My hat it off to Ralph for finishing this project in such a short time and doing it well. CONGRATULATIONS FOR A JOB VERY WELL DONE Dick heppnerguy

A really done executed plaque that carries with it a piece that obviously will be cherished by the receiver of it. The love between a man or woman and their dog, goes deep and wonderful. That peace and love between a dog and it's owner, takes me back to that wonderful song of long ago, "Old Shep" Dick heppnerguy

Dave I remember when you first logged onto The Village. You were really new at scrolling, as I remember but you always spent the time and effort to do it right. You certainly have not changed your attitude about making that effort with every piece, and it really has shown through time. You have come from a rookie to a master of all you do. Your work has quickly transformed into some of the nicest work in The Village. It is always a pleasure to see your posts, as you finish yet another. I am awed by your accomplishment and dedication and you are an inspiration to many scrollers, now. That is a beautiful piece and I really wonder what it is that you are going to do next. I think you have done about everything there is but just when I get thinking like that, you come up with still another thing. So glad you are on our web site. It is a pleasure to have such a wonderful member of our world wide family as you. Dick heppnerguy

Scroll Saw Challenge - Boxes, Bowls, & Trays
heppnerguy replied to Travis's topic in General Scroll Sawing
I do subscribe to the magazine but I missed that article or just blew past it. I really do not find very much in it that interests me but I know if I do not order them, they will come out with the perfect pattern that I really wish I had. I even got a small write up in it about 4 years ago, after I had made 6 boxes for a local bride to give to her mother, mother-in -law to be, and here 4 brides maids. That made me feel pretty good about myself. I am not sure if I will be buying any of that wood very soon, as I have so many patterns I need to cut, but I will make sure I save your post. I was so fascinated by the beautiful bowl that was made from it. thank you so much for taking the time to give me this information. You are the kind of person that makes the THE VILLAGE such a wonderful place to visit and get to know more people. Dick heppnerguy- 69 replies

Thank you for all the good info. I have never even heard of this wood before now. Easy to see why it sold. You did a fabulous job on it. I still view it with a lot of 'awe'. I will check out the site you posted for this wood. You sure had me shaking my head with disbelief when I saw this one Dick heppnerguy- 69 replies

Try this link then www.fonts101.com/fonts/view/3d/2443/UmbraNormal you may have to write it in by hand. Also you may go back and look at your fonts listing and see that if it already is there. Sometimes when I try to type a certain font that I have selected and it changes on me when I start to type it. Hope this helps Dick heppnerguy

Scroll Saw Challenge - Boxes, Bowls, & Trays

wow. that is so outstanding. I am blown away by your skills. would it be possible to see a side photo of this piece? I am totally unaware of how you could go this. How do you go about coloring the wood? What sort of angle are you using to cut this? How thick is this wood and what type of wood are you using? This is so beautifully done. You are truly an artist in every respect. Thank you so much for posting this. Dick heppnerguy- 69 replies

Scroll Saw Challenge - Boxes, Bowls, & Trays
heppnerguy replied to Travis's topic in General Scroll Sawing
I have a couple of boxes I thought I might enter, for the fun of it. One is an inlay of Elvis that I made for my wife and the other is one that I made for her that she liked when I showed it to her and she wanted me to cut for her. Dick heppnerguy- 69 replies

Nice to hear from you, personally again. I am always happy to share what little I know with others, who usually surpass my expertise in a short time. I stay rather stagnate in my work while others like you, take anything I may be able to help them with and run far ahead of me. I just hope when one learns something from me that they pass their knowledge on the others whenever the opportunity allows. Dick heppnerguy

I am really surprised at all the people who remarked about the font I used on the Airplane plague I made. I first used it about 6 years ago and it was on one of the first scrolled pieces I made. I have always liked that particular font but only use it occasionally. I am glad I used it this time as it looks like it was new to quite a few others. I love to share what little knowledge I have, if it is going to help someone. Like most of the scrollers, I find it is a continued learning experience and that is one of the things I enjoy about scrolling. The Scroll Saw Village is one of the other things I enjoy about scrolling. I remember when I signed up to become a member and how fun and talented and sharing ones knowledge with others was the one thing that made logging on here often, has become an important part of my life. You people, out there, are truly family in my heart. I feel I know so many of you although I have only met a few of you. I am grateful to Travis for all his hard work and compassion he has put into making this such a wonderful place to hook up with a world wide family. Dick heppnerguy

I would really enjoy the opportunity to meet you Dick heppnerguy

Looks like your new saw is helping you do some nice clean cuts. That is what it is all about. You will get that little problem worked out and then you will enjoy your saw even more. Dick heppnerguy
-
I would probably have given up if I had to use only one hand. I struggle enough with two. You are amazing to say the least Dick heppnerguy
-
Some fun pieces. Looks like you may have some little ones in your family. Dick heppnerguy

I love your chalet and the awesome fret work in it. I know this one took a lot of your time to create. It is items like this one that brings the awes and oohs from all that see it. Is this pattern out there somewhere to purchase? Looks like a super challenge for anyone the loves fret work. Dick heppnerguy

Nice piece. His patterns are always a challenge but well worth the time and effort spent to complete it, as your well done project shows Dick heppnerguy

Very creative, and the base is exceptional . Great piece. Thanks for posting it Dick heppnerguy

you are right about the saw I had. It ran great but was way too much work to do fret work and just to change the blades. It was a great deal at $65 but I would rather work on a DeWalt or EX then the saw I had. I also believe that a newer Hawk is much improved and more pleasant to work on, However it also looked like the saw that is shown in the photo. If it is like the one that I had, I just wanted him to know that it was a lot of work to use, compared to the saws he already has. I am hoping that it is newer and better designed then the one I gave my daughter. It was still extremely better then the cheaper saws on the market and extremely dependable. Thank you for your comments, I do not want to discourage or be put down by my comments, but only to take the time to see if he really likes this saw and plans to do a lot of work on it, before he sells the saws he already has. Dick heppnerguy
-
I still think the Hawk is a great saw. I just could not get comfortable with using it. It took too much time with the blade between cuts, I did not like the tension knob way in the back of the long throat, and the blade change drove me nuts, (OK I was already a little nuts to begin with ). If those things do not bother you, or maybe yours is newer then was mine and do not have those issues, then time will make things perfect for you. I hope so. Definitely one of the better made saws out there. Dick heppnerguy
-
I do hope that you really like it a lot. It is a well built saw, I just never got comfortable with mine and it seemed like more work to use then pleasure. I probably needed to give it more time. For me the DeWalt and especially my EX was way more pleasurable to use. I remember how excited I was when I found my Hawk at an estate sale and it was only $65. I thought I had found the buy of the century, but when it turned that I did not enjoy using it, I was so disappointed. Have fun with yours, my friend Dick heppnerguy
