  1. Rocky, the top and bottom are 1/4 inch BB ply and the middle are two pieces of 3/4 inch fir , glues together Dick heppnerguy
  2. I have a real scorpion in mine, but it is dead and incased in a cast plastic. Was my wife's idea Dick heppnerguy
  3. thank you for the nice comment. With the intarsia skills you have, I bet once you decide to try a little more fret work, you will find it very rewarding and venture far beyond my mediocre skill. Remember, " it is only one hole at a time' Dick heppnerguy
  4. you certainly will get there, as long as you keep scrolling the way you are it won't be very long until you want to push the envelop Dick heppnerguy
  5. I certainly do not have your scrolling skills, but I still love the time on my saw Dick heppnerguy
  6. I actually do have one in it Dick heppnerguy
  7. Nice box. I have been thinking about trying one for our home but have not done it so far. You are pushing me in that direction though with this one Dick heppnerguy
  8. Barb, nice projects. Fun to find out one can create items that they not only like but you enjoy making and viewing yourself. On your saw, after you use a new saw and change a few blades, it will become as natural as washing out a drinking glass. Keep having fun and doing what you are enjoying. Makes life way less stressful Dick heppnerguy
  9. Jim, I always love looking at your boxes and now you are taking time for some little sick girl you don't even know. I love your attitude on this. I will save the pattern here and hopefully I too, will find a good use for some of your wooden dolls. Dick heppnerguy
  10. This is a clock like I made for my wife about 4 years ago and my grandson's fiancé told me that since they have been living in their own houses for a few years and have everything they need, they are not asking for wedding gifts, However, she did mention to my grandson that she would like one of Grandpa's clocks. ( This is the one she was talking about ) so I made them one. I have been working on it for about a month, due to all the company we have had and finally finished it yesterday, as everyone has left for about 10 days. I have two bells coming for the bell tower and then I will be completely finished. It has several coats of finish on it and in May we will be taking it to Oregon for the wedding. This is the most challenging piece I have ever made, along with the Eiffel Tower I made a few months back. Dick heppnerguy
  11. We have had almost and entire month of company, which has kept me out of my shop for awhile. I saw this little box on Steve Good's site and since we live in southern Arizona and there are a lot of scorpions here, I just had to make this for the fun of it. Not sure what to do with it, but it was fast and easy to make. This one only took about 40 minutes to make plus time for glue and finish to dry. The photo looks like it does not have a finish, but in fact it does. I am not very good at taking photos. Dick heppnerguy
  12. Bernd sent me this pattern after I had cut a previous airplane pattern of his. I am not sure how I will finish this one but I do know that all the pattern makers that post and share their work with the rest of us, are certainly appreciated. This one I cut in 1/4 inch BB ply. I am not sure if I am going to try to make a frame for it or just use an extended backer board instead. I do plan on cutting the manufacture's name and gluing is on of maybe just cutting it into this board. The pattern had that included in it but I want to change the font. This was a little challenging in places but I enjoy the challenges. Dick heppnerguy
  13. Nice job. Keep up the great work. So glad you post your creations Dick heppnerguy
  14. I like that idea. I think I will keep this in mind for myself in the future. Great observation on your part Dick heppnerguy
  15. Meflick is correct with her suggestions. using some depth with intarsia does bring about a more real look to the piece. it does not have to be more then 1/8 to 1/4 inch height increase to do the job. I think you will figure that out when you watch the attached film clip she posted for you. Also Scappile is also correct, in my opinion, as too much raising of the pieces does make a project to look unrealistic too. I believe on you next project, if you use the suggested raises, you will quickly notice the difference it makes, It is not that much more difficult to do and It is worth your time.
  16. This is quite the project. An amazing pattern cut with such perfection. Can't go wrong with an Alex Fox pattern if you want a little challenge and some nice recognition when they are finished. This one will bring a lot of awes and oohs when people see it hangin proudly on the wall. Dick heppnerguy
  17. you are keeping really busy with the bunnies. I bet the rabbits in your area are happy you are doing this so they can just stay out of the cold and sleep and not have to worry about the rabbit population for awhile. I know, not funny.. but it just popped into my head and I had to say it. They are so cute. Fun to find a project that is not too complicated that you need to watch for breakages as you cut them and at the same time, the orders pile in for them. They are so nice Dick heppnerguy
  18. CharleyL, you always amaze me with your wisdom and great descriptive explanations. I always find them worth my time to read, I have a file on my HD that is totaled, "instructional" where I often copy and paste information like you often provide so I can refer back to them as needed Dick heppnerguy
  19. I sure do not know the answer to this one, but I wonder if one could grind the pins off with a bench grinder. Not sure at all, but perhaps you could give it a try and see what happens. Dick] heppnerguy
  20. Welcome. Glad you found us. there are many things that make your scrolling a lot easier if you know them, for instance. the right blades for the wood you are using, choosing the best wood for your projects, what speed is best for your project and many more. so don't hesitate to ask if you feel there might possibly be something you can do to make things a little better for you,,, as there probably is. There are a bunch of friendly people here that would love to help you in any way they can Dick heppnerguy
  21. Welcome to The Village. I hope you log on often and explore all the places on the this site there is so much here and it is also occupied by many friendly and helpful people Dick heppnerguy
  22. Welcome from Southern Arizona. I hope you will feel at home here really fast as this site is filled with friendly and helpful and sharing people Dick heppnerguy
  23. Like Kevin said. ASK anything and you will find some quick answers. Often it may be a little confusing as most scroller have their favorite saws, blades, wood, and shop set ups. That does not mean there are no right or wrong answers, just try some of the advise given, if you don't find it to your liking try a different approach. You will discover the one you want to use for yourself. Scrolling is an ongoing learning thing where you will discover new ideas and things surfacing often. Remember to go slow, don't try too difficult patterns at first and have fun Dick heppnerguy
  24. Nice to have you here. It is a great site for scrollers because everyone here is friendly and helpful. You showed some nice work here that we can all enjoy . Continue logging on and get comfortable with us all. Dick\ heppnerguy
  25. Happy to have you back. Too bad it is so cold there. I was complaining because it was cloudy and was only getting into the 50's. Everything is back to normal now with temps in the 70's. Wish I could pass our weather around to all those people where the snow is deep and the temperatures are shallow. Nice to know you are out there waiting for the temperature to get better so you can 'get back to scrolling'. Dick heppnerguy
