  1. Great wood portrait. You cut is well. I love the way Mahendra makes his patterns. they are so nice to cut. He has made a few for me as well. Dick heppnerguy
  2. Beautiful pattern and such a nice memorial to honor the memory of someone with such close ties to you. Her sister will cherish it. I have cut many of Sue Mey's patterns, but not this one Dick heppnerguy
  3. what a nice colorful decoration. It must have been fun to cut and even more enjoyable to look at hanging there. Nothing wrong with the way you hung yours, it looks great Dick heppnerguy
  4. I didn't even see this pattern... I really like it. You certainly did the make the pattern maker proud with this one. and I bet the wife loves it too Dick heppnerguy
  5. yep, You are making me think more and more about trying to make some of these... if they were not so well done, I might not be having this desire to make them too. Dick heppnerguy
  6. I love your idea here. The last one I saw of yours was just as cool . I think I will take a stab at making some of these too. or I think I can make them Dick heppnerguy
  7. What a thoughtful and great retirement gift. I am positive that your friend will keep and use this for the rest of his life and always cherish it , not only because it is useful and beautiful but also because YOU made it for him Dick heppnerguy
  8. What a great pattern. I wish I had Alex Fox's imagination. It is an easy pattern to make and cut, with a really pleasing outcome. Very Nice Dick heppnerguy
  9. I love Bernd's great aviation cuttings and he agreed to let me cut a couple of his also. He said to make it as large as my saw would permit but I wanted to try my usual 8 X 10 inch first. I choose to cut the Corsair F4U first because it looked to be the easies one. I feel honored that he allowed me to give this a try. I hope that I did not offend him with my efforts but as I continue to cut more of his work, I will start to understand better how I need to go about cutting it for best results. I really like airplanes, though I am not obsessed with them, and I am looking forward to cutting more to hand on my own wall to admire. Thank you so much for your generosity and I will post the others as I find the time to cut them. Dick heppnerguy
  10. Dave, I am trying it on my miter saw, The table saw I have is rather old and not easy to make accurate cuts. I have discovered that any width variances, ever very slight, effects that outcome of the end results in a frame, as well as the exact width matchings on the top, bottom and both sides of the frame. Dick heppnerguy
  11. Frames have be rather baffled also but like scrolling, the more one tries something and hopefully learns from mistakes, the sooner one accomplishes their goal. Dick heppnerguy
  12. Rocky, I have a very long way to go with making frames but thanks for the supportive bit of encouragement here. I will continue to make an effort at it though and who knows, one of these days I may be able to agree with your statement about me making frames.....no, probably not, but I should get better at it with practice. We all know, as scrollers, how that works Dick heppnerguy
  13. Wow Interesting story. I have never heard that either. There are a few places here in Casa Grande, Arizona where I live where John Wayne had ownership or just spent a lot of his spare time. In fact there is a golf course really close to my house that is named after him and I believe the story is, that John Wayne either had it built or owned the land it is on. Not sure exactly, as my memory does always retain the things I hear, very long. Dick heppnerguy
  14. Marg, I do not keep track of my time on the saw to cut a piece, at least not normally. but I would estimate the time on these were about 10 to 12 hours from start to finish.. just a guess. I used to see how fast I could cut something but as of a few months ago, I slowed way down and started to just enjoy doing my cutting. It used to be as I got closer to the finish of the cuts, I would get so excited that I could not wait to finish them and just speed up my cutting even more. Not any longer. I just love me scroll saw time too much to want to finish what I am doing. Funny how we can change as we get older. Dick heppnerguy
  15. Very well executed. I could not pass up the opportunity to see what you had made this time. Looks perfect. Dick heppnerguy
  16. not so difficult... just one have at a time. Nothing hard like you cut.. Sharon likes them in out new guest room. Come down and stay in the newly remodeled guest room and tell me how you and Pattie like it Dick
  17. It is from Sue Mey.. www.scrollsawartist.com
  18. Letters can be a very challenging thing to cut. You look like to managed to cut this one quite well. Good Job. Thanks for posting Dick heppnerguy
  19. My wife is redecorating our spare bedroom and wanted these plaques for her wall. So I made her a couple. I cut them on 1/8 inch BB Ply and once again tried to make a couple of frames to put them in. I used a FD double tooth #5 blade to cut them. I did have the sense to double stack them so that helped both to cut them and to save me time. I have wanted to cut this pattern for about 3 or 4 year now so I am glad to finally get to them Dick heppnerguy
  20. You may remember that I posted a John Wayne last week that I made for my granddaughter to give to here father. After finishing it and getting it ready for mailing , I decided to make one for myself. So I did and I also decided to try and make one of those pesky frames for it.. I should stop pestering myself with the frames but I am determent to try and figure those out. Anyway here is the results Dick heppnerguy
  21. I had an order for a John Wayne from my granddaughter for her new found dad. After I had it cut and ready to mail off, I got looking at it and decided I would also like one for my wall. So I cut one just for me and since I am trying to learn to make frames, I decided to go ahead and give it another try for my John Wayne. So here is my shot at both of them. I know I need to keep practicing those frames but who knows, maybe, just maybe I will figure those darn things out Dick heppnerguy
  22. A couple of weeks ago I posted a musical Treble Clef, I believe they are called and gave it to one of my neighbors as a gift because he is into music and has a group of men come to his house almost weekly to share their musical talents with one another. Well, he told me that he liked it so well that he wanted to buy two of the them to decorate his music room wall. He wanted one the same size as the one I gave him and one larger. He wanted them with the same backer board colorization that I made his first one. So, here is the end results of his request. Dick heppnerguy
  23. Nicely done piece. I am just trying once more to make frames. I too was amazed at all the material that is in a frame. looks like almost no wood at all in one, just to look at it. Your project is done very well and I am sure it is really appreciated that the VFW Good for you to take that much time and effort for remembering those who gave all Dick heppnerguy
  24. Paul.... You broke your New Years resolution about not buying any more patterns...OH, you know that already and don't need me to tell you about it? I sit here in awe, looking at your little nut cracker and wondering if there is anything that you can't do. Obviously there is not. This is one of the cutest pieces I have ever seen done on a scroll saw. I remember the first time I saw the little heart basket that looked like it was woven and saw it was cut on a scroll saw. I had no idea, at the time, that something like that was even possible. That is the pattern made by Steve Good. That little basket got me into scrolling. I had to try it. And then along came Paul and blows me away once more with a piece that looks unbelievable to do, and I have been cutting for quite some time and did not think I would have that kind of wonderment hit me ever again. But you did it. What a cool little guy. I am not a nut cracker kind of guy but this one is just terrific. Dick heppnerguy
  25. This is one of the more difficult ones to cut because of the top decorative rim. Might look at Steve Good's page and try something easier if this one seems a little difficult. most of these only take about 20 minutes to cut. Dick heppnerguy
