  1. Rob beat me to it.... I also like the way you added the frame and put the moon in it. Adds a lot over what most intarsia pieces are, as most a one figures. Thanks for showing us your work, It is inspiring Dick heppnerguy
  2. A nice cross......It came out well. It is very easy to read and the letters forming the cross stand out well Dick heppnerguy
  3. I think I would agree about contrasting color stains on your name and background. It is a really nice pattern you came up with, but because of everything being the same color, it does not show up as well as it could Dick heppnerguy
  4. Your work is perfect. Taking on a Charles Dearing pattern is a true sign of a person that loves their time at the saw. You can display this one with much pride as to subject and your workmanship as well Thanks for posting.. I have been eyeing that one myself.. Dick] heppnerguy

    Owl

You did a splendid job on it. I too really like Sam's patterns..looks great Dick heppnerguy
  6. I too dropped the blue tape awhile back. I found about all the tape was doing was causing unneeded time to remove it. Mineral spirits is so fast and no little pieces of tape to mess with Dick heppnerguy
  7. Not a wooden toy guy, myself. I think because wooden and metal toys were all I had as a kid. but i have to say that I DO LIKE YOUR LITTLE WOODEN CARS, so make some more, like maybe a car hauler and I will come over to your house and we can set them up Dick heppnerguy
  8. Gordie, It happens that I had bought a can of Elmers at WalMart some time ago and was excited to be able to get my old standby and almost forgot I had it. Well, when my regular spray glue started failing me, it dug out my Elmers and it is working just fine...no problems so far.. I guess that is going to be my go to glue, at least for now Dick heppnerguy
  9. wow you knocked them out.. they will surely be very well accepted and proudly given away...assuming they are for that purpose at a church Sunday School or something like that Dick heppnerguy
  10. Pricing is totally up to the craftsman. If you are after trying to make some good money with your work, that probably will not happen very often. But if you are selling because you want your hobby to pay for itself, then any profit you make on something can be counted as more blades, glue or wood. For me, selling is for the materials I use so that my hobby is self sufficient. I find it costs my about $ 6O a month to supply all my needs including shipping and I set my sales goal at $140 a month. I almost always sell more than that but I am not pushing it for profit. I turned down 3 offers to place my work in different people's businesses because the last thing I want to do is to turn the fun thing I do in life, into a working, pressure thing where i am out in my shop cutting a bunch of things to supply a craft sale in hopes of selling my things. So for me, I would look at it as.....how much did it cost me to make........Will I be shipping it............Will this sale maintain interest from the buyer to buy again.......my time in my shop is my fun time........I know this does not answer your question and everyone has different ideas on this. I would rather sell something for $40 that took my 4 hours to make and $3 in material and have a come back, happy customer than to sell the same item for $65 and maybe never sell to that person again.. just me Dick heppnerguy
  11. I would also go with Baltic Birch ply for this piece, I, personally. would have used 1/4 inch thick material for this one. Here is a tip that I think will help you.....if I was doing as I just mentioned I would use a #2/0 blade or a #1 spiral blade. Then I would start cutting this pattern at it's middle and area and work out because you are less likely to have no support on the fragile cuts that way. But if there is an place that is extremely fragile you may want to cut that area first. I too have the same saw and for me, I find the speed setting of 2 to 5 helps me achieve the most accurate cuts. The zero clearance suggestion is a really good one and stack cutting also helps bring strength and support where you are cutting. However, if you are using 1/4 inch BB ply and the #2/0 blade, like I do, then stack cutting puts too much wear and adds too much time to the project for me and in that case I do not stack cut. If I choose 1/8 inch BB Ply then I probably would stack cut even with that blade choice. I admire you for diving into the fret patterns so soon. But if you find they discourage you then I would suggest to pick easier patterns to start with and progress as your confidence increases. I love your work and remember if you see a place that worries you too much on a pattern, just adjust the cut to make that place stronger..Only you will know, unless you point it out as you did on this one Dick heppnerguy
  12. The first sheets I purchased there, I was not happy with, I now am more selective and pull sheets only after I have taken a pretty good look at them. most seem to be OK, but one does need to check them out first Dick hepppnerguy
  13. Thank you everyone for your prayers for Asher, We pray every day for him and his family and we are expecting a miracle here.. If the Lord chooses to have Asher with Him, then we are praying He will guide the hands and minds so that a cure for this is found and others will be able to live full lives that are touched by this decease. God is goood Dick heppnerguy
  14. Timothy has been a huge help to me with my pattern making efforts has several others too. The other day, Timothy posted a Kuala Bear that is native to his Australia and after I have the honor of having a couple of my meager patterns cut by others, and now know what it feels like to have others find one's patterns worthy of their time to cut, I want to take my time to cut one of Timothy's patterns. I really like his pattern skills and it just happens that I have been looking for a Kuala Bear pattern to cut for over a year. So thank you Timothy for making and posting exactly what I have been wanting for all this time. CRC spray glue, that I have been using for a couple of years and expressing my delights with it,.....must have changed their formula, as I recently had to buy another can of it and the first thing I noticed was there was no longer a mixing rattle ball inside of the can and next that they changed the style of nozzle. I thought, "It must be even better now or they would not have changed it." Wrong....I have tried it on two patterns and right away found that is no longer does the job I have come to love from this product. My patterns are no more sticking as they always have but instead they lift from the board as I am cutting , I mention this because on this pattern I had that problem and it made a job out of fun. On the lower right of the pattern, I had to make a little modification in order to be able to even finish this project, For that, i apologize to Timothy for screwing up that part of the piece and hope you understand. 15. About a week ago, I posted a cutting of a ram pattern that I had framed and was donating for a local fund raiser for a 4 or 5 year old boy that has an incurable decease of the blood that will eventually take his life very early on. The parents are going to take all the money that is raised and give it for research to find a cure instead of using it for their personal medical expenses. The boys mother came to our house to pick up m y small donation and she had her three children with her, the youngest whom they adopted at birth and is now 14 months old. Anyway the little boy with the blood decease had on a spider man shirt and my wife asked him it Spider Man was his hero. He told her, "No..Captain America was". So on the spot, I immediately knew my next step was going to be to make him a Captain America figure plaque for his wall. My wife wanted me to paint it as for a 5 year old, it would have more meaning. So here is the results of my quest.. Oh, he volenteerilly gave both my wife a big hug before they left and a little rubber bracelet that said Asher's Army, on it. That is the name given to the fund raiser project. I am honored to help Asher and I hope this little plaque brings a smile or two to his little face. I know for you and me, this is not the best Capt. America going but all I care about it that it is the best Capt America, Asher has. Please pray for Asher and his family. They are really great people who have worked hard for a long time for saving babies from being aborted. They need a miracle and God can do anything, if we pray and believe Dick heppnerguy
  16. sounds like you are tackling things head on. I put a dust collector in my shop over a year ago and I have yet to use it. so you are way ahead of me. I have my shop in an outbuilding and my nearest neighbor is almost a mile away so noise is not a problem for me.. Dick heppnerguy
  17. Welcome from Eastern Oregon. I am sure you will be bringing some interesting things here, with the experience you have had in your life.. So glad you joined us Dick heppnerguy
  18. Stevan, I too wish to welcome you to the Village. If you are looking for a saw and have made a decision on the one or two you prefer, I would suggest that you check out craigslist, as there is often some great deals of scroll saws there. You do need to be a little careful buying used but perhaps if you do see something you like there, you might post the link and see how others would advice about the saw itself, the asking price and things you might do if you go to look at it... Blades are extremely important to get the results you will be trying to achieve. don't but big box store blades.. instead ask here and you will be directed to soem proper sources for them Dick heppnerguy

  20. Jeff, The people here in The Village are extremely helpful and we are not here to criticize other's work but to support everyone's' efforts, Heck, even I get nice compliments so you have nothing to fear. If you are having a problem with something. like what blades to use on what wood or where to buy blades. or having some kind of mechanical problem with your saw, we are here to help. If you are looking for a critique on something, that too can happen and you will find that very helpful and not condemning. I would like to suggest that you log on often and you will quickly start to recognize the regulars here and in a short time, you too, will be a regular, welcoming newbys and answering other's questions.. Glad you are here. Dick heppnerguy
  21. Really sorry to hear you had such a spendy problem. Some time parts for a unit are way over priced but do not leave us with very many choices.. At least the wait time is during a down time for you...... Dick heppnerguy
  22. I would like to help you with this question but one of my many week points is in finishing.. There are so many ways to go about it so I will be interested to see what others might say. As you know, there are many knowledgeable people here. Just remember, finishing is like choosing the perfect blade, There are a lot of different ideas on that subject too. so both you and I will have our eyes and ears positioned to find the suggestions to your question.. Dick heppnerguy
  23. i like both of them. The perspective of The Alamo is particularily interesting to me, since i took a shot at trying make an Alamo pattern too. Yours is way more interesting than is mine, but I am still trying to learn about pattern making Dick heppnerguy
  24. Wow what fun pieces... where can one get the pattern, I might like to try that one and give them away to kids Dick heppnerguy
  25. Roly, be careful, your wife is standing right behind you...........OH NO Too late.. I hope you heal quickly Dick heppnerguy
