I don't mind at all. We live in a small town named Heppner. It is located in the middle of no where. The road to Heppner really is not on the way to anywhere else, so there is little incidental traffic through our town. There used to be a saw mill located here for years but that shut down about 16 years ago. We are the county seat so we do have government things that are held here. We are surround by wheat farms and alfalfa growers. Our county is called Morrow County and it is quite large in area but the population is so small that there is not even one traffic control light within the entire county boundary. We do have a grocery store, gas station, pharmacy and tire shop as well as several hair dressers and a dentist. There is one tavern and 3 part time restaurants. One is open 2 days a week, one is open 3 days a week and one is open 7 days a week. We have no public transportation, except for a bus for seniors for doctor appointments and the like to another town. The closest town to us with things like a movie house, Wal Mart and most everything one might need is called Hermiston which is the one I mentioned above. It is 56 miles away but while traveling there you will normally see only about a dozen cars. So now you know more than you wanted to about where I live. Dick heppnerguy

When I first became aware of Alex Fox's pattern, I knew that one day I would be cutting a few of his. It was not long after that when Alex Fox joined Scroll Saw Village and posted one of his patterns for free, here. On seeing it, I immediately downloaded it, and cut it. I did not get back to it to finish it until today. The reason I was waiting to finish it was two fold. One; it was so cold that I did not even want to take the time to build a fire and wait for my shop to warm up and two; after I cut it , I put into a frame I had and both my wife and my daughter said it needed a nicer frame then the one I had for it. So I wanted to buy a frame that seemed to fit the piece but we could not get to our nearest town,(56) miles away because of the continual snow fall and frozen roads. (We have a long, uphill driveway that is very difficult to get up even with our 4 wheel drive Jeep). We finally got a little break in the conditions on our driveway and I decided I was most likely able to get back up it, if we had to. So we went to town, did some shopping and I found this frame and today, after church, I finished this piece. I am donating it for a fund raiser for a little boy in Heppner that has a decease and they are getting money for medical needs. This is an uncurable thing and he probably will not live long Dick heppnerguy

Gordie, This will be a much used item, I am sure, I have made something like this for my wide's Ipad and it really helps a lot when she is traveling. It is a different design but also a Steve Good pattern.. Nice of you to think of others with your work. I know they appreciate it a lot Dick heppnerguy

I love those old WWII air crafts. They were a piece of art in themselves. It is great that some people still admire them, as you obviously do Dick heppnerguy

You sure added a lot of interest with the way you framed it and putting the words into the frame is a fabulous Idea, I think I will use this idea in the future, myself. Thanks for posting this nice piece Dick heppnerguy

Did you glue some of the pieces back in place after cutting them? It looks like there are some floaters in it, so I was just wondering. Not trying to take anything away from your nice piece. It did indeed come out very nicely and like others have said, your friend should be extremely happy with it Dick heppnerguy

I like the last one best Actually you are right, Kevin. you can not go wrong with giving someone their name plaques, I remember when i made a really nice scroll item for a high school graduate and she sent me a thank you card for the gifts but added that she liked her name plaque best. so there you go Dick heppnerguy

Segmentation is easier than intarsia as all cuts match perfectly without sanding you fingers to the bone. However, you seem to be a master with the stains and your work ends up very impressive indeed. You are starting to make me think about doing some segmentation too. I love all your pieces a lot. Captain Jack, When i saw the little photo of the bowl at the bottom of your post, my first thought was that you had turned it on a Lathe but then I read your post and I became very interested. You have done a marvelous job with it. That being said, I would hate to see you not make more of these, I would think a lot of people would be after one of these and you have all the difficult planning work done. I would suggest that you get an inflatable sander for your drill press, as that would make your life a whole lot easier. One question though,,,,,,,,I understand the hole for the yarn to go through but what is the function of the long slot on the side?? Dick heppnerguy

I burn most of mine too, but with the temperatures in the single numbers, I think I will continue to burn mine. Besides we are probably going to be moving within the year and i have so much wood that i will not be moving with us. So I may just start cutting a lot of it for firewood Dick heppnerguy

I have to confess that I do not use any filtration at all. I figure if it gets me now, I have already outlived a lot of people. This post has got me thinking a little more and I did order a new respirator as I really do not want to end my life with breathing problems because "It won't happen to me." syndrome. I am glad you posted what you did, here Dick heppnerguy

Thanks for your report. things can and do work lose and as long as things seem to be working fine, most of us, ( hopefully speaking correctly here ), Don't give the thought to what should be the regular, Checking for any loose parts. A good reminder for all that do things as I do Dick heppnerguy

Len, You are sounding like me. I usually resist trying new things but sometime when I get over the feeling that i am already have discovered the best way to do something and for some unknown reason, later I do try something different, I think "wallah, now I know i have everything figured out for sure." I remember this happened when I was using blue painters tape and gluing my patterns on top of that.. I was so happy with that, that I was never going to listen to anyone else's suggestions because I knew I had it all figured out.. I no longer use this pattern method because i now do it the very best way possible." Dick heppnerguy

Let us know how what you determine to be the best for you..I sure have sanded my finger tips sore more than once doing intarsia. Have you tried to talk your wife or daughter into seeing how much fun sanding and shaping intarsia can be?? Dick heppnerguy

Very ingenious of you. I think you are one good solver of this kind of problem.. I would probably say, "darn, that can't be fixed, I will have to give up on making these puzzles"' and let it go at that Dick heppnerguy

Steve, Hello..... I hope the DeWalt saw works out for you. If not you should be able to find another one on C L soon. The are a good saw for the money. Parts are easy to get, if needed and there are a lot of videos that explain how to fix anything that should go wrong, by yourself. I hope you log on often and take the time to brows the formun, in it you will see the 'University" tab. It contains tutorials on pattern making should you decide you would like to try that too. About your blade storage...I saw a post awhile back where someone was using earth magnets to hold their blade storage on their saw..I really do not remember exactly how they were doing this but perhaps the person that posted it might see this post and respond to you about how he or she did that Dick heppnerguy
