I cut this one because it was a fast and fun pattern that held a story all by itself. I think he is already an accomplished pattern maker. He told my he learned pattern making from Travis's tutorials here on The Village Dick heppnerguy

I looked and could not see where I have posted this one so hopefully I have not. This is another pattern by https://www.facebook.com/oregonjibaroworkshop I cut it because I liked the pattern and I like old trains too. I have a cousin in Wisconsin that has a large model train setup and I knew he would enjoy having this one for his train room, so I mailed it to him yesterday. This was a fun pattern to cut and I found it a little challenging in places, which I liked. Dick heppnerguy

You are quite the scroller. I am so glad to see so many people taking on the more difficult patterns. You all are doing a wonderful job and I see these as a greater challenge to myself. Thanks for what you did and I love these..hoping to see some larger photos too Dick heppnerguy

You chose a really nice pattern to cut and truly did it great justice. I am sure that it will please Sully to how well it came out, as well as to whomever is the recipient of it too. Dick heppnerguy

I have never felt the need for gloves because so far I have not felt that I need a better grip on my wood, maybe because i do not use spiral blades but I will try to keep this in mind in case I find I need more grip sometime. I am a little slow to try new ideas and that is one of the 'old guy' syndromes. But I am trying to learn that I am not too old to learn and try new things. i do really like the idea of using some protective gloves with my disk sander as I have gotten my finger into that once and the sander does not care what you put into it and will immediately grind anything away, including my skin. Kevin if one was going to cut a pattern like Han's cuts with pinned blades he would have to enlarge it to the size of the side of a two story building. Just playing with you, Kevin. It is a good thought and could work for many patterns. Dick heppnerguy

Welcome aboard Allen, keep in mind that no starts off on a new endeavor as an expert so I would suggest that you start with the easier patterns, so as not to get discouraged out of the chute and as you get more confident start to challenge yourself. This is a continual learning process and the more you challenge yourself and get into more complicated cuttings, the more you will understand that you do not know it all. One of the good things about The Village is we have many people with many ideas and skills here and each of us share what we know and have learned with the others and if you were to ask anyone if they think they now know everything there is to know about scrolling the answer would be the same. So dive in, ask questions whenever you have one. and answer any questions where you might think you can help someone else, because you probably will do just that. Branden, So glad you decided to take up scrolling. I am sure that you have probably tried it from time to time, if your dad has had it around your life for some time. something made just for you by a friends or family member is so special, but when a grandchild makes something for you, it immediately becomes a treasured piece. I have a few things that my grandkids have made and given to me and I would never part with them for anything. Dick heppnerguy

I dont' see this pattern as an inlay pattern. It looks like a fret pattern to me. Just drill the holes and cut it hole by hole. I looks like a pattern that I have cut many times.I am wondering if you might be using the wrong term here. I could very well be wrong, but that is my input Dick heppnerguy

I personally like the A for a filler color and a black out line. that works really well for me. When i take a pattern that is made with red, I usually copy it with black anyway. The black outline helps a lot for me Dick heppnerguy

Rich, After reading the stats and reviews, I would suggest that if you have not opened this saw, you might consider sending it back. It appears to be really too light duty to be rewarding to use. It only takes pinned blades and there were several reports of lack of power. The table is quite small and could restrict your ability to cut some of the things you will probably wish to cut in the near future. Not having the ability to use non pinned blades will quickly become a deterrent as well because it too can make a lot of patterns uncuttable for you. I understand the cost factor as i am retired and living on a limited income myself. Be I think you can do better for about the same price. a variable speed unit with the ability to use non pinned blades is a plus. Craigs list is also a great place to find a good used saw in your area. Just trying to help you a little. I am afraid you will be disenchanted with the saw you choose, very quickly. I am not trying to discourage you, it is just cheaper to spend the money for a saw once than two of three times down the line. Rich, It will be interesting to find out how well you like your new saw. I think the draw back on this saw is the small capacity (size of area you can cut ) will be a deterrent for you, but I really am not familiar with this unit. i am going to go back and read more on it, to make myself a little more familiar with it. Hope you heal quickly from your operation and are up and about soon. the scroll saw is something you can work on almost right away as it is not a big strain to sit at the saw. Way easier than swinging a hammer and cutting 2 X 4's. Dick heppnerguy

Here is the companion piece to the Iris that I made for my bride. It just so happens that sunflowers are one of her favorite flowers so how could I go wrong attempting this one in my shop? This is another Judy Gale Roberts pattern. Not a real special piece but an interesting one to make. It is easy to see that i still struggle with the glue up part of intarsia but next time might be a little better, I hope Dick heppnerguy

The family of this man will always think of him whenever they view your thoughtfully designed and cut cowboy boot in his memory. YOU will always be remembered as friend that cared enough to make this wonderful memorial piece that says it all. It is so nice to have a talent you can share with others but giving something a endearing as this one is really difficult to be beat. Certainly is better than anything you could go into a store and purchase. This will find a very cherished place to be hung in their family home for decades to come Dick heppnerguy

Hans my man, You have done it once again. A very outstanding job. I almost fell off my chair when i enlarged it and took a really good look at it. What an unbelievable table this one will make. sure makes the Eiffel Towers look like a beginner project Dick heppnerguy

Nice basket, Way to go. It sure is fun to take a flat piece of plywood and turn it into a beautiful little basket, isn't it. That is what I enjoy about scrolling best. I can not make much of anything from my mind, but using the talents of others that make the patterns, makes others think I too have talent. Keep up the good work. Gregory, You might want to download, GIMP or/and inkscape. They are both free software and there are quite a few tutorial videos here in The Village forum to help you to learn and understand these programs. You will find the free videos in the university tab as you scroll down the forum tabs. Many here use these programs for making patterns and it is easy to make the patterns the exact size you want them to be. Give it a try, any questions can be answered in regards to these programs.
