  1. somewhere on the Village someone posted a link about frame building. I think it might have been our own, Travis, but I am not certain about that. I believe if you ask about the frame building video someone will be happy to direct you right to it. My memory is a little thin and I don't recall exactly where it is. Dick heppnerguy
  2. Mark, Making something as nice as this is for the wife is wonderful for your marriage relationship. It makes you feel happy to make something that pleases her at the same time makes her feel loved. Way better than a bouquet of flowers or candy. Great job, Keep active and post your work often, that makes us feel special too Dick heppnerguy
  3. Kevin, It looks like a lot of personable things here. I can't imagine you have them in a box, stored somewhere. Look up who you made them for and give the pieces to them. I am sure they would love to have them and the box won't even miss them. \ Dick heppnerguy
  4. I also give you a big welcome from the state of Oregon. I hoep that you make an effort to log on to here often. By doing this you will accomplish two things. One: you will get to understand the way to find the many things that are on The Village and during those visits you will start to learn more about the members here, that we like to refer to as 'family'. After a short time, you too will feel a part of our large, international family. two: we will get to know you too and we are all interested in seeing what other people make and design. We all welcome you here. after you have signed in, go to the forum tab, where you introduced yourselt and start to click on the sub tabs and just read and explore, the Second tab is a good place to post questions and get to know others. Take the time to post to other people's entries too. That will help you to get involved here. Don't be shy, If you don't understand how to get around very well or just can't find the kind of things you are looking for, just ask. You can start a new topic by going to the upper right hand side of the sub forum you are on and clicking on the 'start a new topic'. I think you will find it pretty easy after that. If you are still confused, you can to back to the 'introduce yourself tab. Oh, I just went back to where you introduced yourself and see that you have already made 3 posts, so you are on your way to comfort, here. Dick heppnerguy
  5. way to go guys..I love te response,, I am working on my ornaments.. Ideas come hard for me and usually aren't the best, but practice make perf....maybe I should say improvements. Dick heppnerguy
  6. one can also just put a piece of tape covering the blade/table hole and the small pieces will also be supported. Just another thought on the matter Dick heppneguy
  7. nice work..thanks for getting right in this and posting your work. Keep coming back. Dick
  8. I too enjoy the cartoon characters. Your work is fun. What kind of paint are you using to paint your rabbit. I don't always like the painted ones but the cartoons cry for paint, in my oppinion. I have a lot of difficulty with getting the results i am after, You seemed to have found the answer..so what is your secret ? Dick PS look you have just started here, and you already are being asked questions by family members..
  9. There you go,, Try different blades for yourself and find the one you enjoy working with.. that will be the 'best blade', as least for you. Blades are not expensive and try to keep notes on the different ones you try and then you will come to your own conclusion. Good luck with it. I am still experimenting with my blades. Dick heppnerguy
  10. It is said that there is no perfect blade. What might work best for me may not work so well for you, That is what I have seen so many times. So my advice would be , try as many as you like, you will need to probably take notes on which blades you like best on different thinknesses and types of blades and decide for yourself, which you like working with best. some love spiral blades while others find them to not make the qulity of cuts they wish to have and visa versa. so it is an individual thing, I believe. I would never ignore others suggestions but i would still try them and see for myself. Good luck on finding the 'perfect blades' for you Dick heppnerguy
  11. I read about that once and the conclusion about tightening that screw is it tightens the bearing and causes excessive binding and it will need to be replaced as a result. So I opted to use the free piece of 2x4 which works really well and is not a problem. It is NOT recomended to tighten that screw. I know it does the job, but I am going to stick with my 2X4. thanks for the tip though Dick heppnerguy
  12. Looks good, You worked out your problem and probably others learned something from all of this Glad it all worked out in your favor. Dick heppnerguy
  13. Peter, you have the attitude and desire we cherish here on The Village. We all want to give you a big welcome and logging on often brings many rewards, not only to you but also for all of us. The more you are log on here the quicker you will feel right at home and start to know the regulars here. We have others here from your neck of the woods and I am sure you will be hearing from them soon, You can post to 'bragging rights' by clicking on the tab ....the at eh upper right side you will see a tab that says, something like, 'start a new topic'. Afer you click on that all you have to do it write in a title for your post, and write a little about your piece and then at the bottom left you will be where you can brouse for a photo. upload the photo and then on the bottom right it has a tab to Post your entry. That is about all there is to it. If I did not miss something or if I got something incorrect, someone will surely post what I may have told you wrong. If you still have trouble, just ask once more..No problem for anyone.. Dick heppnerguy
  14. you must have been really concentrating in that cold temperatures because it did not 'shriver' you off any of the lines. Very nicely done. A great pattern. I hope I can find it somewhere. EXCELLENT Dick heppnerguy
  15. next time you have a delicate piece and want to slow the aggression of the blade, try a 1/2 inch support board, Then you can use a little bigger blade and still be the results you are after. At least is seems to work for me. I like being able to use a #3 double tooth reversiable blade on this type of cut because it does not flex as much as the smaller blades and it is not as agressive as the single tooth blades. You did a great job here. It truly has some delegate parts for sure. what kind of wood to you use on these portrait and delicate pieces ?
  16. Is that aromic (not sure about the spelling or really the correct name here, but i think you will understand what i mean ), Cedar you used here? I have yet to try this bowl but I printed the pattern several months ago. I think it looks really good. You might also like to try some of Steve Goods other basket patterns. they are fun to look at and fun to make. Dick heppnerguy
  17. Here is my take on this matter..If I am cutting thin stock, I usually do one of 2 things.. 1. Stack cut,,(this means I am now, not just cutting thin stock and this makes the blade work a little slower and while supporting the original, weaker board 2. I also choose a smaller blade like a puzzle blade, but for thin cuts I prefer the Olson double reversable tooth blade with the most teeth per inch The reason i prefer the olson blade here is because flying Dutchman does not offer a double tooth blade to my knowledge, this blade cuts slower, while being very accurate and is small enough to make tight cuts and leaves very little frizzies at the same time. I usually use a #3 so it is not a weak blade. and tracks well Dick heppnerguy
  18. Click and lock ??? i must be the only one that is not in the know.. luckily for me I am not too proud to ask,, so consider this a question.. Dick heppnerguy
  19. there are a lot more than free patterns here that are waiting your ex ploration. come back often and you will be amazed at the number of thing you will discover. The main thing is to get involced. Make posts and comments to other people's posts like we are to yours. Very soon, it you are active here, you will start knowing the regulars here and you too will become a regular and that is a family of friends you will be very glad to be associated with. the people here are dedicated scrollers and always interested in others works and knowledge. come and a part of all of this. If you don't understand an answer to your question just ask it all over again.. not a problem. .Everyone is helpful here Dick heppnerguy
  20. this a great original idea.. I will show it to my wife and see what she says, but I am afraid I already know what it will be, but I will find someone that will like this. If I do, will it be OK if I make mayself a pattern of it ? Not sure where you got the pattern, but I assume it is one of yours. Dick heppnerguy
  21. I am in the mids of trying to solve that very same thing.. I have a new bandsaw blade on my saw but it was too agressive so I put on another blade I had with closer teeth and it broke at the weld in seconds ordered anothe blade last night anxious to see the answers posted here
  22. start sending your patterns to Travis and get them in the new ornament eboook.. you have to send in 5 and only 5 and they have to bbe blacka dn white only Dick heppnerguy
  23. Kevin that is a lot of work to be stored in a box.. sort of like old photos that no one ever sees. set up a stand and sell sell sell...you have enough to stop almost anyone in their tracks... Dick heppnerguy
  24. Holy crap Keith... that is one ambitious piece. You did a really nice job. congatulations on a job well done Dick heppnerguy
  25. mine just sits on my bench. I don't even have it mounted and I can move it any time I wish, to clean under it or make myself more room...I love my saw and I think you will find the more you use yours the more you will like it too. Hint. .keep a piece of 2X4 about 10 inches long, next to your saw and when you are changing your blade from one hole to the next, just place the board on edge between your table and the upper arm and wahloo, both hands are free to make the changes..
