  1. yes Kevin, she appears to be one busy gal... I like her work too, Roly. That was exactly the reason I posted the link to her sight. It is fun to look back at all the things I have missed by only being here for a short while
  2. I went back through the old posts in 'bragging rights' and found this wonderful photos of work, I think you will all enjoy taking a look at it too. http://s697.photobuc.../shadylady0447/
  3. I started an Etsy store once and I was not even able to find it. So I decided that if there was so much stuff on there that I couldn't even find my own store, why do I want to be bothered by that ? too much on there to be worth the hassel for me. I have done pretty well with a Facebook sight. which is totally free and I have sold $500 off it without even trying. I know I can sell much more from there but I don't have the time to work on it until after Christmas, then with time freed up, I will promote it again...
  4. I love it when someone comes up with a problem, because it is often something that some of us has also struggled with and maybe never figured it out but just moved on to something else. Reading these problems and solutions is very helpful and if we have not had this porblem, perhaps we will later and remember that we read it somewhere on here before and can go back and search it out later.. good job solving
  5. my guess is that the stripping material was not fully removed and the two materials used on this project were not compatable. or perhaps one material was water based and the other an oil base. or even perhaps it is like using one based items like laquer and poly eurothane. look and see if the materials you used on it and see if one uses laquer thinner to clean the brushes and the other uses paint thinner. if so I would guess that is your problem... I really have very little knowledge whenit comes to something like this, but I remember earlier in the summer I tried to clean my laquer spray gun with paint thinner by mistake and it caused the remaining laquer in my gun to turn into something that looks like a thin rubber like you might find in thin rubber protection gloves..
  6. of course ! This a symbol learning deviceused as an aid for learning math. When viewed at an angle where only on leg of it is on the ground and viewed from the end grain, it represents a plus sign or indicates adding one number to another number. Example 3 + 4 = 7. when viewed with two of the legs on the ground and viewed again from the end grain it is a symbol for multiplying two numbers together. Example 3 x 4 = 12. I can't believe you were able to fool anyone with that question. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves for over looking the obvious. NO, I ALSO HAVE NOT A CLUE
  7. thanks for always sharing these cool ideas that you find continually. We all appreciate that you open this sight up to anyone interested and share your wealth of information with all of us. You also get a lot of help from others, along with all of us memebers. We all are so happy we have you running the show so smoothly and openly. A big thanks for all of your help and knowledge, Travis
  8. very nice work glad to have been able to see your page
  9. It is always fun to make a gift for a child and then to make it for a friend's child is even better. Nice toy..
  10. I only know one person that has used a table saw for years, and yes without the protective saftey guards, who has not, at one time or another, has a piece of wood, located between the blade and the fence, come racing back into their ribs, I have to say that I have had this happen to me on more than one occasin through the years.I also have to admit that I do not use my saftey goggles very often, when on teh table saw. The table saw is probably the most dangerous of all the wood working machines and the saw does not care who the operator is, it will do it's thing whenever one relaxes in the way we use the machine. I know I am an idiot for not wearing eye protection when I run my saw..Thanks for the reminder. The one thing that I like about the scroll saw is one has to really want to cut off a finger, to lose one on that machine. WE NEED TO BE REMINDED TO BE SAFE WHEN WE USE MACHINERY OF ANY KIND, EVER ONCE IN AWHILE. THANKS FOR THE RE-AWAKENING US.
  11. Is that a wonderwheel on your bench grinder ? If so, did you find it a valuable investment..I have been thinking about one myself. Just want to be sure it would be worth the investment
  12. Don, that is very clever and well done too. I love it. you have a g ood head for new ideas. way to go.
  13. Blessing sometimes comes to us when we least expect it to. Blessing are our rewards for dong what is right by others, I believe. I am happy that those things you did for your landlord, Kevin , was not forgotten. What is the saying ? something like 'when someone does something good for or to you, pass it on to someone else' that is how blessing are developed. Always remember that people and relationships are way more important than anything monitary in value.
  14. I think that I would consider giving them to loved ones as Christmas gifts.
  15. I too have never seen Yew wood before. Is it native to where you live or is it imported ? I not only like the piece you made but I too really like the choice you made with the clock face, it adds interest to the final piece. Glad you posted it.
  16. Another time when our 'family' comes to the rescue of one of our member's in need. I hope your problem is solved. If not, repost and others will jump in, I am sure. Sounds like great suggestions to me. I hope one of them works
  17. Jim, I was thinking about trying that. The problem is, I used a paste wax over the top of it. Do you still think it is a possibility to over spray it ? Do you think I should take a piece of scrap and wax and spray it first, just to see how it comes out and if it seems to work OK and if so, do you think the finish will stay in tact afterwards ?
  18. Yes a asked her about the names and she told me that you were correct on the circle L and the second one really did not have a name.. The circle was just selected to represent 'family' and the dots on the outside represents each of the people in their family. so that mystery is solved.

  21. You won't have to worry aobut that very much longer, Roly. As soon as Travis gets his transponder perfected you can send your stuff via that. shouldn't be long now that I have sort of planted the seed for Travis to get busy on this problem

  23. Remember the Brand intarsia I made for my neighbor and she said that she did not like it after all the time and materials that I put into it?? Well, she came by the house and paid me the $250 for the 2 items and asked me to hang on to them for her until just before Christmas. I was shocked.. Part of it had to do with the finish. When we first talked aout it she told me she wanted it to be natural wood and not glossy finished. So that was what I did. now she says that she wanted them glossy. I told her it was too late to change them now. Then she asked me to make one more for her..Can you believe that? So that means I will get from her, $375 total. Not bad for someone who said they did not like them...What the heck ??
