  1. Really impressive piece. I like it a lot. anyone would enjoy having this one.. Thanks for sharing
  2. glad you asked, Roly.. I was wondering the same thing...didn't really want to ask and look stupid but my not asking wouldn't fool anyone about me anyway. I have been here long enough that everyone already knows me too well to hide something like that about myself. thanks for asking anyway. Dick heppnerguy
  3. Gunner,,,,, I posted the brand that was burned on the wood and next to it I posted what I posted the intarsia piece I made. the person ordering the piece only wanted the brand and nothing else. That is what made it so difficult to make something to hang on the wall. I guess you need to be into farming to understand why someone would want something like this made for them. If you need Christmas scrolling ideas and don't have much luck thinking of something, try the free patterns on this sight or perhaps the free ones on scrollsawworkshop.blogspot.com. try to match items to personal likes and you should not have a problem coming up with Christmas gifts for family and loved ones. At least it works for me. Dick heppnerguy
  4. Hi Kiva, Welcome from one Oregonian to another. Where in Portland do you live ? I am very familiar with Portland because I grew up there and lived there most of my life. I hope you come back here often as you will find it a very helpful place for your scrolling skills to develop. It is a very friendly and fun sight. The more often you log on her the quicker you will understand that you are now a member of a family that wraps all around the globe. Dick heppnerguy
  5. As I said yesterday, I was heading for the shop to work on a couple of orders projects. The two I am posting here today are ones that I found rather challenging. My neighbor is a cattle rancher and she decided that she wanted to get her husband something different for Christmas this year. She saw a couple of my intarsia pieces that I entered in the fair this year and decided that she wanted to have me make her gift for her husband, so she came to the house and asked me if I could take their brand and make a piece of intarsia for her husband. Brands are not very interesting or attractive but I told her I would give it a try. she wanted it to hang on their front room wall. I gave it a lot of thought and really sort of wondered how I could make something attractive out of a brand and in intarsia too. I tried to talk her into a scroll piece but she insisted that she wanted intarsia. I finshed them today. OH, she also wanted one of her brother's brand too. so here are photos of the original brand burned into wood and what I was able to come up with
  6. I am hearing so much about the sanding mop and decided to buy one. When I went on line to look at them I saw several different types.. Which one do I want ? Where might I find the right one to purchase ?
  7. Welcome Phil. We are all excite to have you with us here on The Village. Look around, explore all the sights and then when you get your new saw be sure and post some of your work for all of us to enjoy. If you ge lost of confused just ask for directions and you find someone to guide you through the caverns of fun. come often, stay late, Glad you are here
  8. Bob, I like your sense of humor and creativity. I would wager that most of us here at The Village have never seen a real Kiwi Bird before. They seem like a made up bird to me. I think it is pretty much all in the blades. Buy your blades on line and don't try to make them last as long as you can. When they get dull they burn the wood and don't follow so successfully. I have read that the average life of a scroll saw blade is about a half hour of cutting, especially in thicker and harder woods. I have found that hardwood boards are easier to cut than the softer woods. By now you understand that the hold down pieces are there only because the manufactures are required by law to put them on their products an to protect themselves. Keep up your communications here and you will get to know the regulars and will quickly understand that you are among friends that we refer to as family. Any more questions, just fire away we all learn from one another.
  9. I am not sure why you would want to add anything to your pattern. It is fantastic. I would cut it if it were mine. congratulations on a wonderful pattern. Be sure and post your finished work. Yourgrandson is very cute, but I know I don't need to tell you that.
  10. Another really cleanly cut piece by you,,, but WAIT !!!! Did you notice something was missing here.. someone stole all your carefully made fuzzys.
  11. Steve, I have never seen a leg powered saw before. I would really like to see a photo of you working on your machine, if you would kindly post one for us. The darker background sure makes it stand out well. a good job from start to finish. I enjoyed your post.
  12. Clayton and Marge, I have to say that you both go way back. It is fun to see the progression of others as they became active on The Village. Unless you have memories way better than mine, I think you too would enjoy going back again from time to time and take another look at the older posts. It might be like going through a diary or an old family album. After all, it is a sort of family album, isn't it? I hope my post encourages others to go back, way back, and explored the attic for posts.
  13. I thought it might be interesting to go back in some of the Village Posts and see what I have missed. I am so glad I did because I discovered there are many wondrous things just sitting in the dust of the old Village files and they are there for YOU to find and enjoy. Here is a hint of what I found. There are many waiting for you to discover. Go to the Forum and scroll down to the General Scroll Saw category. Then open up page 13 and open the file ' I finished the train clock'. This is one of the best posts I have seen anywhere. After that, I believe you too will enter the dusty attic here in the Village and end up visiting it often. Dick hepnerguy
  14. I know this was over a year ago that you posted this but I am going to post for others to travel to this post and enjoy this wonderful clock you made. I am so glad that I took the time to travers way back on the posts and ran across your wonderful project. I am now going to go back in the files more often and see what treasure are wait to be discovered. GREAT JOB
  15. I'm kind of wondering that same thing, Danny. I am leaning toward a number 7 skip tooth because it is important that the blade be stout so that it doesn't wander during the cut. If it does, then the part resting against the table will not be true to the pattern on the other side. I believe this would be true especially in hard wood where the harder wood grain could cause a smaller blade to go off course as it follows the easier path of resistance. I will return and check out what others post about this and together we can learn the real truth to this question. Dick heppnerguy
  16. Frank, thanks for the sharing the box you made. I like little boxes they are handy for so many things. Never thought that I could ever make one but ecaseu you so generously posted the video, I just may attempt to make one myself. Great job.
  17. Nice design and great execution. I like clocks too and I found a 4 1/2 inch clock at a garage sale that I bought for $5. I will be making a clock with it too. I hope I can make one nearly as nice as yours. Thanks for sharing
  18. A perfect pick for "the shoe lady", as I will unofficially dub her. Great job, the letters are a little challenging and you were successful at cutting all of those with perfection. She will be delighted, I am sure of that
  19. Dan, You did it again. Once more we are all treated to a piece of your marvelously done work. very impressive and a great keepsake for the person who receives it. It will, most likely become a prized display in their home. Thanks for sharing

  21. Roly, There was a nice variety of things to look and buy at your show. The turn out also looks good, something for everyone. I will go and see if I can find your youtube photos too.
  22. sorry I could not figure out how to rotate the photo. I thought I saw a tool to do that one time but I could not find it today,
  23. I will be leaving for Colorado to attend a small reunion with 4 other guys that I served with in the Army Paratroopers over 50 tears ago. We get together about every eight years or so. This year I decided to make and give to each of them a plaque as a reminder of our get together. We are all getting up in age and nobody has any guarantees, so it is important for each of us to attend when we can. I hope they like these as much as I liked designing and making them.
  24. Welcome. I think you will enjoy coming back here often and getting to know everyone here. There are lots of free patterns here for you to down load and make. You will soon discover we have people here from all over the world and I am sure you will be getting a greeting very soon from a fellow Australian, as we have a great member here, from there.. go look around our sight and see what all there is to do and enjoy here. Come back often. if you run into a problem and can't figure out how to navigate or get something up loaded or down loaded, just ask.
