  13. Could not get a better compliment than one from the "Master" himself.
  14. And even bend a knee to @jerry1939. Ever since I saw his post on the Forest Wren bowl he made, I loved it and wanted to try making one. Well I finished mine today. These are not easy and Jerry made several of them. I also want to thank him for the notes he sent me with suggestion on how to accomplish the task. They were very helpful. The scrolling on this project is not difficult, it is the angles pieces needed to me cut and the gluing it together that was the challenge.
  15. Ray, your forgot "homeless".
  16. Ya, work the tablet. I would love to see this.
  17. Glad you are joining us. You are off to a great start!
  18. Great cutting.
  19. Very will done. I hope we get to see a picture of it painted also.
  20. I had a piece of maple I purchased off the internet that cupped on me. I got it flattened by moistening the cupped side and weighting it until it dried. I used it to cut a picture of "The Last Super". It cupped again as I was scrolling.... It is still leaning against the wall waiting for me to decide what to do about it. Maybe, gets cold enough I will put it in the stove. There is a part of this that is vendor dependent. I buy from one vendor that most often the boards cup. Not sure why but they do. I still will buy from them because they have some species that I can not get elsewhere in the same thin pieces. I will say, I have started buying from Cherokee woods and so far not one board I have received from them has cupped. They are west coast, I am west cost. The other place is east coast. Maybe it is the difference in climate...?
  21. All Australians are in my thoughts and prayers.
  22. You did very well on both. I know how much that will mean to them. I did similar for a guy. Never meant him but we were forum friends on a wood working forum. Had to put is dog down and I knew how much it meant to him and his wife. A picture of their dog was his avatar picture. I took the picture and made the only pattern I have made from it, cut the pattern ans sent it them. The response was very rewarding. It sits on their fireplace mantel.
  23. Had to think long and hard about posting here on this topic, because I think the point is to see how much improvement one has made. I think back and some of very first scrolling was when I was a little dirty kid that played pirates, army, cowboys and indians, err, sorry cowpersons and native Americans, and I grabbed a scrap piece of wood wood, climbed up on my stool and scroll a pirate knife, army tommy gun or some firearm to shoot the enemy with. Of coarse I have know pictures of them, didn't have digital camera or cell phones and I couldn't stand still long enough to have some one stand behind a big box, take of a lens cover and hold up a apparatus that popped with a flash of light (think about it, you will get it). But when I really became a "scroller" I started right out doing fretwork. I don't remember the order that I cut the pieces but this was one of my very early ones. I think it was my peak..... and to be honest, I have not bested it. But I have sure enjoyed the trip, tried many different things, and would say that in my life span, of hobbies, I think I have enjoyed scrolling the most, and it has lasted the longest. But I am almost 76 now, I am loosing some dexterity, have some damage to my vision, can't control my fingers as well nor feel thins with them as well, can't sit as long, back hurts, get headaches, and my attention span is getting shorter... neither words, I am getting old. Not complaining about it, just a fact. So, my new is pretty mundane comparatively, not at all ashamed of them, I really enjoyed making them, but they are not as detailed or technical as I use to do. My future cuts, I hope are going to be things like scrolled fretwork boxes and some clocks, things I hope to give to someone that they will want to keep. I only have about 4 or 5 projects planned this year, so each one is going to take me a while and involve some other woodworking to accomplish. I also spend more time pondering now, as you can see. Sorry for the wordy post. I shut up, now and go back to my current project
  24. WOW! I looked a the pattern and thought, nice pattern, but not sure I could cut it, then I scroll a little further and see what you did with it. Great job both! I mean, really great job! Makes me wonder though, what do you have against Kris after he did that nice for you, that you would want to wish being President on him??? I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy!!!
