Scrappile

Had to think long and hard about posting here on this topic, because I think the point is to see how much improvement one has made. I think back and some of very first scrolling was when I was a little dirty kid that played pirates, army, cowboys and indians, err, sorry cowpersons and native Americans, and I grabbed a scrap piece of wood wood, climbed up on my stool and scroll a pirate knife, army tommy gun or some firearm to shoot the enemy with. Of coarse I have know pictures of them, didn't have digital camera or cell phones and I couldn't stand still long enough to have some one stand behind a big box, take of a lens cover and hold up a apparatus that popped with a flash of light (think about it, you will get it). But when I really became a "scroller" I started right out doing fretwork. I don't remember the order that I cut the pieces but this was one of my very early ones. I think it was my peak..... and to be honest, I have not bested it. But I have sure enjoyed the trip, tried many different things, and would say that in my life span, of hobbies, I think I have enjoyed scrolling the most, and it has lasted the longest. But I am almost 76 now, I am loosing some dexterity, have some damage to my vision, can't control my fingers as well nor feel thins with them as well, can't sit as long, back hurts, get headaches, and my attention span is getting shorter... neither words, I am getting old. Not complaining about it, just a fact. So, my new is pretty mundane comparatively, not at all ashamed of them, I really enjoyed making them, but they are not as detailed or technical as I use to do. My future cuts, I hope are going to be things like scrolled fretwork boxes and some clocks, things I hope to give to someone that they will want to keep. I only have about 4 or 5 projects planned this year, so each one is going to take me a while and involve some other woodworking to accomplish. I also spend more time pondering now, as you can see. Sorry for the wordy post. I shut up, now and go back to my current project

WOW! I looked a the pattern and thought, nice pattern, but not sure I could cut it, then I scroll a little further and see what you did with it. Great job both! I mean, really great job! Makes me wonder though, what do you have against Kris after he did that nice for you, that you would want to wish being President on him??? I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy!!!

Ha! Copyrights probably leads the field of the most posted about. I read and read more and I know no more about it than I ever did. I know it is not wise to infringed on someones copyright... but am still not sure what real infringement is. I haven't been sued yet, so I will keep doing what I do. I guess if I sold items or gave lots away I would be more worried, but as like as I keep making items no one wants,,, I think I am safe. I am also convince a that a lot of people that write about it, really don't know much more than I do...... Now I am in trouble.....

I picked up a box, maybe two years ago from Home Depot just for this purpose. Asked my wife if she had an old white sheet I could have... yes, she says. I'm still waiting...... what do you recommend for lights? I have a small photo setup from back in my pen making days. Doing nice photos of ones work, to me, is just another level of fun to the hobby. I collected quite a few props to go with the pens and it was, well just another fun dimension to the hobby. And with the digital cameras it is even greater. I'd like to get a set up again.

I appreciate you not telling me. It is called "Asleep at the Wheel" by JZ, can't remember the name that those initials are for. He doesn't make patterns anymore. I am sitting here shaking but for right now I am resisting pushing the "add to cart" button... Not sure how long I can hold out..

When cutting 1/4" I use a Flying Dutchman #1 Penguin Silver Reverse (PSR) blade. It is non-aggressive and cuts clean. 1/4" is as thin as I like to go so if I need 1/8" I stack.

That is so cool is right and so cool to have a partner sharing your hobby.

I had this "stool" so it fit between the legs of the stand and I fought it because the legs on my sitting only fit under it if I had them pointing in one direction. I needed them to fit under it to get me closer to the saw. So a couple days ago, I said enough is enough and I built a new one that is expended out past the legs. No more problems so easy, took me about 1/2 hour. No more frustration. Should have do it a year ago.

I guess I never understood why this could be a complicated issue. This works just fine for me.

Wonderful job! And, I thought I was patient,,, I could not do it the way you do.

My lid came off very quickly after I bought it. Just like the hold down thingy on scroll saws...

I have this one from Harbor Freight https://www.harborfreight.com/fluorescent-magnifying-lamp-60643.html a good one for the price. I also have a much more expensive one and it has a few +'s but not enough to justify the extra expense....
