    I am making a box to gift to my neighbor. Got started on the scrolling this afternoon after cutting and gluing wood for it yesterday. Her box is going to be 3/16" Maple, then I have a 1/4" BB under it so I have more control and it the BB turns out okay, I will have a second box. I plan on lining the box with a dark wood. This is a pattern from Findscrollsaw.com. It is called the "Modena Jewel Box". Pedro, the owner of the site is in Spain. He is a great gentleman to work with. He is recently back after being offline for around 3 months, with an illness and 2 months in hospital... I am so happy he is back that I have purchased 6 of his patterns lately, and have a few more I want,,,, just in case. I plan on doing mostly this type of scrolling this year. Anyway, it is not much accomplished, but I am a very slow scroller and not really in a hurry. When I hurry I make mistakes. This is the lid to the box.

    Bob, from the looks of the picture, I thin they are bent. But if the people are cut out of 1/4" or even 1/2" and the wings were 1/8" stock, they would easily bend that far. I have not cut it, so take it for what it is worth. The pattern will tell you or email Sue and she will.

    My oh MY! You NEVER cease to amaze me, Dave. That is beautiful. I have no idea how you made those joints. Do you have jigs from Incra?? Super job. I really get excited when I see a knew post by you, I know we are in for a real treat!!

    Happens, and it will happen again. Try cutting with the back of a flat blade,.. I did about 3 times last month,

    Two things I have learned about using 3M-77, keep the nozzle clean (I keep mine in a little container of MS) and shake the can well before spraying...

    And even bend a knee to @jerry1939. Ever since I saw his post on the Forest Wren bowl he made, I loved it and wanted to try making one. Well I finished mine today. These are not easy and Jerry made several of them. I also want to thank him for the notes he sent me with suggestion on how to accomplish the task. They were very helpful. The scrolling on this project is not difficult, it is the angles pieces needed to me cut and the gluing it together that was the challenge.

    I had a piece of maple I purchased off the internet that cupped on me. I got it flattened by moistening the cupped side and weighting it until it dried. I used it to cut a picture of "The Last Super". It cupped again as I was scrolling.... It is still leaning against the wall waiting for me to decide what to do about it. Maybe, gets cold enough I will put it in the stove. There is a part of this that is vendor dependent. I buy from one vendor that most often the boards cup. Not sure why but they do. I still will buy from them because they have some species that I can not get elsewhere in the same thin pieces. I will say, I have started buying from Cherokee woods and so far not one board I have received from them has cupped. They are west coast, I am west cost. The other place is east coast. Maybe it is the difference in climate...?

    You did very well on both. I know how much that will mean to them. I did similar for a guy. Never meant him but we were forum friends on a wood working forum. Had to put is dog down and I knew how much it meant to him and his wife. A picture of their dog was his avatar picture. I took the picture and made the only pattern I have made from it, cut the pattern ans sent it them. The response was very rewarding. It sits on their fireplace mantel.
