    Welcome Josh. Nice to see a youngster interested in the hobby. What kind of scrolling do you like to do? I mostly do pictures/portraits so my answers below are related to that type of scrolling. Like others are saying, there are many methods and most have their preferences. I no longer use clear packing tape over my patterns, but if it is a very delicate pattern I do use blue painters tape. If not I put the pattern directly on the wood. I feel the painters tape helps hold the delicate stuff together, coarse you have to be very careful when removing it. I use 3M 77 spray adhesive but there are others that probably work just as well. I have not tried double sided tape. I would be concerned about the sawdust getting to it and the pattern lifting up. I would also worry about removing it from the wood once the cutting was complete, because any double sided tape I have had, really sticks. Those are my concerns, but does not mean it wouldn't work, like I wrote, I have not tried it. One other thing is it is expensive.....

    A masterful piece of work! My only comment would be when you take pictures of your work, use a nicer background. It deserves better than a garage door. Would make your piece look even better.

    When you go to Mike's and other places to buy bits it usually tells you what size bit to use for the size blade you are using. For instance, at Mike's site for each blade size it shops a bit size to you. It is the last column on the chart. For most #3 blades size blades you would use a #65 bit. A few call for a #64. It is a tight fit most times. I have a pin if run through the hole sometimes to make it a hair bigger if I cannot get the blade through.

    You should be able to "pluck" the blade and hear a high "ping". If blades are not breaking (often) and you are cutting fine you are most likely okay.

    Did it that way for years. My was just a piece of 2"x 4", nothing fancy.

    When you go to post a new topic or do a reply, there is a little icon above the box where you type you message. The icon is on the right side, suppose to look like a sheet of paper with a paperclip at the top. To me it looks like a box with a fishhook hanging down. Click it and then click on upload attachment. Find the picture you want to attach, upload it and you should be good to go. It even lets you pick a size you want the attachment to show.

    Tony, I am a Pacific Northwesten-er and love this type of art. You really did it proud. I do not quite understand the process you use. But it is great however you do it.

    Charles Dearing cuts a lot of large pieces. If you look on Youtube, there is a video or two of him doing his cutting. It shows the kind of stands he uses for his large cutting.

    Hi Glenna, glad you are here. There are some good tutorials on here in the articles section about pattern making with Gimp and Inkscape. i am not good at pattern making, so that is as far as I can help you.

    And, remember, no matter what you do, you are working with wood and it has it's flaws. Some chip out may occur even with all the precautions mentioned above.
