I think you would have a great setup there. Maybe you could build one of those cabinet where the saw are a flip top. When you need the Ex it is on top in use, need the Dewalt and you flip the top and the dewalt is on top. Something like this:

Welcome to the forum, glad you joined. I do not think you are any different than a lot of us. I have all kinds of tools and many wood working interests, i.e., boat building, lathe turning, organ building, toy making, cigar box guitars, the list goes on. Currently my focus is scrolling but I do not know how long that will last.... I think there is a quote for this "jack of all trades, master of none" I like all wood working, have really mastered none...

I've seen a few places on the internet where they sell the tiny bits and I have wanted to give them a try. Unfortunately, they only sell them in set and most of the set I would never use. You break one you have to buy a set to replace it. Not good.

Like the gentleman said, the tiny ones will break. That is why I buy the sizes I use the most, by the dozen. I also buy mine from Mike's Workshop. They are the only ones I have used, so I do not know if there are better ones of that small of size. If you are buying Irwin, from ACE, I don't think they carry the small sizes, like #63, #65, #68, etc. Least my ACE doesn't. The probably only go down to 1/16". I have not had any real problems with Irwin that I have used. I break some, but it is usually my fault. Now, I bought a little set of bits at Sears once years ago, off of a bargain table. They were an off brand. The first one I used was to drill a hole in some pine. It was a 3/16" bit. I just folded over when I started to drill, like maybe it was made of soft lead. Got a laugh out of it as I threw the whole set in the garbage.

The holes I have done with hole saws are not pretty. Like said, there can be burning, jagged edges, etc. May require lots sanding. Also the size drill bit required for the hole saw may not be the size you require for the axle. It may be larger.

I have only run across one used on, in my neck of the US one time. If you can find a used one in good shape at a good price, congratulations! They do not come up often. I bought mine from Seyco. Great place to do business. The 21" with stand and foot pedal is $899 free shipping. That is about as good a price as I have seen.

Ralph, if it is in your budget, go for the Excalibur. It will become your primary saw and the DeWalt the back up, I promise. The Ex is a great saw. I have had both and have been sorry I didn't keep my DeWalt as a backup and forgot wanting the Hegner. It would have been a much better fit for me. An Ex with an Ex backup would have even been a better fit.

WOW, just checked ereplacementparts.com Motor $282. I did not think they would be that much. That would give me pause. Guess it would depend on what shape the rest of the saw is.

I don not know about these things, but I would think there is some test you could do to determine if it is the motor. You take it to a DeWalt repair will cost you whether they fix it or not. But, believe me upgrading to an Excalibur is not a bad thing. You would/will love it.

If in good shape, buy it for sure. Try it and I think it will become you primary saw and your DeWalt will be stored as a back up,

Kevin, it is a pleasure to meet you. Lucky you getting to start out with a great saw. You rarely find a used Excalibur for sale, at least in my area. You will love it. I have an Ex 21 and a Hegner. I would trade off the Hegner before I would the Ex.
