  1. Welcome back. Glad to hear your on the mend.
  2. I'm not aware of one. What I do for a long post which is rare, I will type it up in a word processor making sure it says all I want. Save it on my computer then when I log onto a site I open that document up and do the cut copy and paste to where I needed it to go. Sounds like extra effort but it is better then losing all the time put into it if something happens. Just a thought.
  3. We all go through that re-learning process at times. If it had to be "locked " down no movement I would think epoxy may be a better choice. I'll have to look up what your talking about too as I am not familiar with it.
  4. Compound cutting is a slow process. Using a blade with a skip toothed profile helps clear out the kerf and reduces heat. Packing tape is always good on thick wood as it help lubricate the blade.
  5. Some companies call it wood conditioner, sanding sealer and the like. It helps seal the more porous woods ( pine for ex. ) to help it blotching when you apply the stain. Makes the stain appear more even over the project. If I remember right, MinWax has some good info on their website, been a good while since I was up there.
  6. The wood looks like Box Elder. But more information is needed to help you out. If you can answer the questions Dan asked above it would help. The more info you supply the better the answers you may get.
  7. The plywood you get from the big box stores is not a good choice for scrolling. They are made with inferior fillers and glues. I always use birch ply which is really good stuff. Using sharp blades and if they bend, they go into the trash and another blade is installed. Never used the sanding strips, a good quality blade leaves little sanding to be had. At any rate welcome to the village, hope you visit often and there are no "stupid" questions. You'll find most folks here are happy to help or supply with their opinion.
  8. I sell 95% of what I make. I have photo albums to show folks. I do have a few pieces in my house that got broken and are displayed but I don't sell anything broken or repaired. The other 5% are gifts or donations for charities for fund raising.
  9. A long time ago I read an article about this. If this old mind is working correctly the definition was pretty simple. If you going to instarsia or segmentation a 16 inch is preferred as most pieces are smaller in size. If you going to do strictly fret work then the larger the better ex 30" table saw. If you plan on doing multiple styles a 20 or 21 " is preferable giving you the flexibility you will need. I started on a 16" and now run a 21" and never missed the smaller saw. SO getting into this hobby try and decide what most interests you and look in that size range. There is also the option to use spiral blades for "large" projects.
  10. For me it all depends on the project at hand. Word art is normally 1/2", portraits are 1/8". Some plaques for hanging are 1/4". I have very little steadfast rules for other work. All depends on the project and desired effect I am looking for. As you can read from the replies people choose different thickness for different projects. I fully agree that most of it will depend on eye appeal which is very important if your selling your work.
  11. Wow I know I'm in good company now
  12. I went through the same thing many years ago. Was told I had a bad cold. Three days later I was having sever problems breathing, got rushed and admitted to the hospital for pneumonia and asked why I didn't seek treatment before. Wife explained I seen a Dr 3 days prior and was told a bad cold. I had a 10 day stay to get better. Needless to say never seen him again. Praying your Mrs. recovers quickly and fully.
  13. Thanks finally some clarity on this. I'm sure it has been long waited for.
  14. My house and shop are protected. But if the storms are too bad I just wait them out then go back to work. Not worth taking chances since I don't have a lot windows in my shop and the ones there are glass block. They have vents and all for circulation just really don't show light like a normal window.
  15. Thanks for sharing this. Very interesting and thinking about it very true.
  16. Thoughts and prayers for you and all. Heal quickly and completely. Here is to a positive outcome
  17. Wipe it off with a rag best I can if still a little wet. Other then that I rub them together and it goes away pretty easy.
  18. That's funny.
  19. I use 3M 77 and have never had an issue with it, Sticks and stays. I guess when you find something that works for you you stay with it ?
  20. I don't get any pop ups. You may want to try and clear your browser history files. Seen others including myself have issues because of that.
  21. You need to upload the file not a link. If you use the link button on top it will give it an address to access it. Choosing the "Drag files here to attach, or choose files " at the bottom will upload the file. Hope this makes sense to you.
  22. Ray In the post you need to click on choose files at the bottom. Select the file from your computer and it will upload to your post. I think this is what your asking to do. I upload a file Blank.Pdf and had no trouble. No need to download this file as it just says blank pdf inside Also make sure the file is not copyrighted in any way please. blank.pdf
  23. Nice job cutting that. Happy to hear you Dad liked it.
  24. All my frames are made in my shop. I still use the Imperial measurements to do the rough cuts etc. I'm sort of familiar with the metric system and it seems things are all headed that way. Cars started switching over to the metrics in the 1970's and are completely metric now. Hated when that happen being a mechanic I had to purchase tons of metric wrenches sockets and stuff.
  25. I have the black labeled can in my shop. I don't use it for my scroll saw though. It cleans, lubricates and protects the pieces I use it on. The blue can seems to made for small motors 1/4 hp and up. If I was going to pack bearings I would think a good lithium grease would be better then oil. Just a few thoughts.
