  1. "Hobby", if looked up in the dictionary, means " empty wallet".
  2. Thanks for the pics. That was a pretty neat setup. What you are looking for is the Loc-line products and here is their link. http://www.modularhose.com
  3. I suggested to our compatriot Brad (Scrollsaw703) that since he is fairly close to them and has a Hawk saw that he manages to do miraculous work with, he should contact them and put forth the idea that he could be their customer service rep right from home. I don't know if he gave any thought to it but to me, it would be a win-win for both sides. He's knowledgeable and available. They need someone who isn't part of their farming business to be a go-between for the customers and the company. I hope he follows up on it.
  4. So, what I gather from all of you is that if I order a couple blade holders and a "plastic" blade holder clip today I might get them by summer? Is that correct?
  5. You're not a "newbie" anymore. Only in your head. Nice work.
  6. Really well done. Thanks.
  7. Great work. I am in awe of all the craftmanship on display here on SSV.
  8. Really nice Paul.
  9. Somebody had to do it. It's really hard on my wife.
  10. I realize you are just following the pattern Kevin but do you see what I mean? If it's all made out of one piece of wood why not add that little bit so that the back side angel wing "flows" to the groom side? That's all. You've done a great job on these. I'm not trying to take away from that.
  11. Thanks JT. Maybe something good is going to happen over there. I certainly hope so. It would be a shame to see a great U.S. made product go down the drain for lack of leadership.
  12. Those are really neat Kevin. One thing though that I noticed is that the wing in the background should show up more between the couple. It appears to be "cut off" as it goes behind the bride and shows up again after passing behind the groom. Is that a mistake? Some small part of it should still be view-able between them.
  13. That is an amazingly difficult project Paul and you are doing a masterful job on it. I hope to someday acquire the skill it takes to do this type of work. You are the MAN!
  14. Yeah, after going back and looking at it again, I guess my idea wouldn't work so good. But, it sure would be nice to have that small base to work with.
  15. Rocky, I'd love to have one like that. I like to make small stuff so I surely don't need a 26" throat. It takes up a lot of real estate too. I can almost see mounting that little saw on a slider under the bench. Just slide it out when you want to cut something. I'd really love to find one of those tiny Hobby Saws too.
  16. Thanks Tony. Much appreciated.
  17. Good eye Kevin. I missed that.
  18. Thanks Karl, the bottom of the bowl will be about 5/16" and the inlay will go all the way through. Not just a surface inlay.
  19. And this one went for $58. https://smithauctions.hibid.com/lot/43307130/rbi-hawk-precision-scroll-saw-on-stand--works-per/
  20. If I lived in Texas, I might have to go check this one out. For $50, I'd take a flyer. https://www.letgo.com/en-us/amp/i/hawk-scroll-saw_76a9405e-6e8a-4cb8-96fe-131688a5be70
  21. I am going to try my hand at inlaying a pattern into the bottom of a wood bowl that Carole Rothman highlighted in one of my magazines. I'm going to make the body of the bowl out of mahogany and I want to inlay an oak leaf into the bottom of the bowl. She used sapele but trying to locate that stuff is a lesson in frustration so I'm going to try to use maple or ash. I want something that will contrast with the mahogany. I was just wondering if I should be worried about shrinkage rates between the two woods. Can anybody offer up any sage advice? Thanks to all who participate.
  22. I WAS very much like you until we decided to sell out and go on the road. What we kept fit in a 6 x 8 storage unit. Now, we live in a mobile home with almost zero extra storage space. I do manage to "pack-rat" some stuff and find a place in my little shop to hide it until I can find a use. Mostly wood now. I also have a bunch of old hard drives and quite a collection of the little ones that come out of laptops. I use them the same way you do. My Dad used to kiddingly say, I have a ball of string made up of pieces too short to save. The same goes for tin foil. My folks lived through the depression so that's probably not too far off the truth. He passed the habit down to me. I can't stand to "waste" anything. Except time that is. I manage to waste a lot of that.
  23. Thanks a bunch Kevin. Now I have something else to look for. That tiny Hobby saw would be neat to have. I just ran across this picture of a Proxxon and it sure looks similar to the Hobby Hawk.
  24. If this is the second time you've had to take it in, I'd tell them you want a new saw or your money back.
  25. I remember you talking about that in another thread long ago.
