    Rocky, I'd love to have one like that. I like to make small stuff so I surely don't need a 26" throat. It takes up a lot of real estate too. I can almost see mounting that little saw on a slider under the bench. Just slide it out when you want to cut something. I'd really love to find one of those tiny Hobby Saws too.

    Thanks Karl, the bottom of the bowl will be about 5/16" and the inlay will go all the way through. Not just a surface inlay.

    I am going to try my hand at inlaying a pattern into the bottom of a wood bowl that Carole Rothman highlighted in one of my magazines. I'm going to make the body of the bowl out of mahogany and I want to inlay an oak leaf into the bottom of the bowl. She used sapele but trying to locate that stuff is a lesson in frustration so I'm going to try to use maple or ash. I want something that will contrast with the mahogany. I was just wondering if I should be worried about shrinkage rates between the two woods. Can anybody offer up any sage advice? Thanks to all who participate.

    I WAS very much like you until we decided to sell out and go on the road. What we kept fit in a 6 x 8 storage unit. Now, we live in a mobile home with almost zero extra storage space. I do manage to "pack-rat" some stuff and find a place in my little shop to hide it until I can find a use. Mostly wood now. I also have a bunch of old hard drives and quite a collection of the little ones that come out of laptops. I use them the same way you do. My Dad used to kiddingly say, I have a ball of string made up of pieces too short to save. The same goes for tin foil. My folks lived through the depression so that's probably not too far off the truth. He passed the habit down to me. I can't stand to "waste" anything. Except time that is. I manage to waste a lot of that.

    Thanks a bunch Kevin. Now I have something else to look for. That tiny Hobby saw would be neat to have. I just ran across this picture of a Proxxon and it sure looks similar to the Hobby Hawk.

    You might want to attach it to something other than what you have your saw mounted on. The vibration will drive you nuts. Make a wall mount or attach it to your work bench. Just not the saw mount.

    I use my shirt pocket magnet for those tiny blades. I look at them under the magnifier, get them the right way and stick them to the magnet. A lot easier for me.

    If the price was not out of this world for the one you are looking at, I'd have to buy it just for the collector value and to have something unique. How much are they asking?

    You might try taking the motor brushes out of their recesses and blowing out any dirt or residue that is in the holes. It appears that it's a "sticky" spot on the motor/armature. By pushing down or jiggling the top arm it is rotating the motor to a slightly different spot and picking up current again. Might require a motor replacement. This is my best guess.

    Yeah, there is that. I blame Jerry Brown & Gavin Newsom for opening the prison doors and letting them all out. My wife and I are both packing heat.

    I sounds like you and my wife need to go to the same class. She is STILL trying to figure out her phone. I bought her the exact same one that I have so I could help her but when I try, I get the "don't bother me" routine. So, I just sit and shut my trap.

    Not to make jest about a very bad situation but here in California, we only have 4 seasons. Wind, fire, flood and earthquake. Prayers go out to all of your Aussies and especially the poor critters who don't stand a chance. Breaks my heart to think of them.

    I absconded with my wife's can of Elmer's spray glue. I like it. A nice small can that is easy to hold and operate. The tip hasn't clogged on my and so far it has stuck very well. I use a heat gun to remove patterns. A wipe of MS cleans off any remnants of glue. I've not priced it because I still have some left. It seems to last a very long time.

    So far, the board that I "de-bowed" has stood along a wall with my other woods and has remained flat. I live in So Cal, 1 mile from the ocean. We have moderate humidity and also the dry Santa Ana winds. It has been a rainy year also. When I first bought the wood, it came shrink-wrapped along with some other boards. The oak was the only one that warped after taking the wrap off.

    I totally agree Kevin. I was lucky to find the one I have on C/L for $175. I had to drive up to L.A. to get it. I tried to dicker with the guy because that's just my nature but he knew what he had and wouldn't budge. Anyway, I'm very happy with it. It came with a 16 foot very pliable hose so I use it to clean up around my shop as well as outside. I did buy a brand new Ridgid 14 gallon in the box with the accessory package for $75 from a guy who swore it wasn't stolen. I built the roll-around stand that has the Dustopper atop it and now it is for when I set up my saw/sander/??? outside on my driveway. I'm pretty well fixed up for vacuums. Did you check out the link I posted for the one on eBay?

    I had a piece of 1/4" red oak that warped on me so I sprayed the cupped side with water. I got it pretty damp. Then I clamped it cup side down to my work bench. I left it that way for a few days. When I finally unclamped it, it was flat once again. It was 6" wide and 48" long. It worked great. I don't have room to sticker my wood so I was happy to find this worked. Give it a try.

    Jim, my shop is only 9 x 13 feet. The vac sits in a corner above the Dust Deputy on a home brew stand. It's only about 6-7 feet from me when I'm sitting at my saw. The sound meter registered between 65 & 68 db. I don't wear muffs but I do have hearing aids. I'm not bothered by the sound.
