  1. Kevin, I had the exact same experience. But, in reverse. I was used to using Pegas #5 blades and for some unknown reason, I decided to try some FD blades. All of a sudden I couldn't keep them going straight. I had to really push to one side to stay on the line. I love me some PEGAS!
  2. Yes, for sure. I only know of one person who get a better deal. Heh heh heh!
  3. That's great. You bought a great saw and got to see some nice scenery. If you have never used a Hawk, take the time to visit Bushton Mfg. website and view the "getting started" video. Especially how to adjust the tension. If not done right you'll swear that your blades are all too short. Don't ask me how I know that.
  4. After reading your suggestion of letting it cure for a few minutes, I gave it a try and you are right. It is still tacky enough to stick without much mess. And the thinner the coat the better. I have an almost full can of 3M77 sitting on the shelf but I found a small can of Elmer's spray glue that my wife had bought for something. I gave it a try and it is so much easier to work with because it's a small lightweight can and it just seems as tacky. Much cheaper too. Actually, I have tried all the different ways that have been suggested here on SSV and I like the shelf paper a lot but the shipping labels are the best. For me anyway. A pack of 100 on Amazon was about $8 and I don't use too many of the large size patterns or I try to re-position my smaller patterns and print them all on one label sheet. It takes some messing around with Word but once done, I save it and can come back and do it again if necessary.
  5. I don't know how it might differ from using the shipping labels but I run them through my laser printer with no problem. Maybe I'll get brave and try the shelf liner and see if the heat from the laser causes any problems.
  6. Yes, I'm very happy. Now I have to get busy on some sort of wood organization.
  7. Rj, it's time for you to start a scrolling group or club or??? Is there a Woodcraft store anywhere near you? How about a high school that still has a shop class? Senior center?
  8. You need to see pictures? Isn't my word good enough? Lots of scrap wood for many scrap projects.
  9. Double posted, deleted.
  10. Hi to all who live on the Western side of the Mississippi River. I made up an order of woods that I needed and submitted it to Cherokee Wood Products a couple of days ago. I decided to make the 2 hour round trip to go see the operation and actually meet Chris. I'm sure glad I did. He is a great young man and it was a pleasure to meet him. He showed me around the entire yard. They have been there for 25 years and it's a great place. Lots to see. Anyway, for making the trip out there, he gifted me some of the stuff that they can't sell. I came home with a load of great wood. They also have boxes of cutoffs that they sell. I highly recommend that you folks give them a try. And if you do, take the time to try to get hold of Chris and give him your order. Especially if you need any custom milling. I needed a piece of walnut in 3/8" thickness. They don't offer it but they milled it for me for a minimal charge. I now have enough wood that I won't need to go back for a good while but when the time comes, I'll be hot-footing it back out there once again. Cherokeewood.com
  11. WOW! You weren't kidding. Too many to count. Thanks.
  12. Les, it doesn't have utilities.
  13. I'd take a dollar two ninety eight.
  14. Is anybody interested in buying my share of the Brooklyn Bridge. I can no longer afford to keep it and I'm willing to let it go for what I paid.
  15. I may have found the creator of this pattern. I'll post when it is confirmed. Well, unfortunately, I got an answer back to the negative. I thought sure by looking at some of her other work that it had to be her but, alas, not to be.
  16. I like that pic. If you end up with a pattern, will you please share it?
  17. That is one, if not the, best explanation that I have seen on the subject of blades. Very simple, concise and informative. It should be a "sticky" here on SSV for all the folks who will ask this question in the future. Thanks for taking the time to put it all together.
  18. I emailed Grobet also. I gave them my address and phone number. But so far I've rec'd no reply. I am not really expecting anything. So far I'm using the faulty blades in my EX. I'll order more for my Hawk.
  19. I wrote to the Pegas folks but haven't heard a thing back yet. I asked for instructions on how to exchange out my 11 dozen bad ones. Maybe I'll get a surprise and they'll just ship me some new ones. Probably not.
  20. Thanks Charlie, great info.
  21. Just think about being able to take this saw out in the pasture on a hot day and setting up under the shade of an old oak tree. No need to worry about exhaust or dust control. Just the curious cows. Wow!
  22. I suggest taking the saw apart and inspecting the bearings and sleeves. THEN order only what is needed. Had I ordered a complete set of brgs/sleeves, I'd have wasted a huge chunk of change. Luckily, my saw had not seen much hard use so nothing was badly worn. Inspect first unless you have too much money.
  23. I might have to agree if you aren't mechanically inclined. Once I did all the bearing service on mine, I found that I didn't need to replace anything. I even managed to take the main bearing apart (the one on the main drive link) and squeeze grease into it. There were a couple of problems that I found when I took mine apart that accounted for about 95 % of the noise and vibration. The other noise came from the tensioning rod hitting the cover over it. Once I did the file trick as suggested on Rick's Scrollsaw site, that eliminated that so once it was all back together and everything adjusted, I'd have put it up against most other saws.
  24. Very nice Brian. Great colors. I like it.
  25. Color or b/w? I only do b/w stuff. Color seems to cheapen the quality.
