  1. Not for me. Standing kills my feet and back.
  2. I just found this Instructable and found it interesting for repairing an old Excalibur where parts are no longer available. I thought maybe somebody who is on the fence about buying an old one might find what they need here to form a decision. https://www.instructables.com/Scroll-Saw-Repair-Using-TinkerCad-Flatbed-Scanner-/#discuss
  3. Completely agree.
  4. Regarding the under table dust collection/cigar box thing, I recall that Les (Rockytime) had a plastic funnel that he fashioned from some sort of gallong jug and he used some small magnets that he epoxied to it and it stuck nicely to front of the frame that Hegner uses for a stand. The dust fell into that funnel and went down to the area where the screw cap would have been. That's where he attached his vac hose. Gravity and vacuum seemed to catch most of the dust. God, I sure do miss Les! He was like a brother from another mother.
  5. Here's the Wen on Amazon as of today. https://www.amazon.com/WEN-LL2156-Variable-Extra-Large-Dual-Bevel/dp/B096G8SFC8/ref=sr_1_5?crid=37OS9UV0446IF&keywords=wen+scroll+saw&qid=1678649130&sprefix=wen+scroll+saw%2Caps%2C466&sr=8-5
  6. I went to her website after seeing Steve Good's daily email. She is truly amazing in her work. Such detail. And using a single speed Hegner. I had one and it ran at 1700 rpm. Way too fast. I sold it. Her work is truly art. The way she takes a piece of wood and after realizing the grain and color patterns, she then creates a picture that enhances the wood. I'm humbled for sure. I recommend that anybody who is in this hobby seriously to check out her website. https://www.fionakingdon.com
  7. On my Hegner, I've not had that problem so your retainer may have gone weak. Time to make/buy a new one.
  8. If you like the Dewalt check out Delta and Wen. Wen has recently brought out a saw designed around the time-tested Dewalt but with many upgrades. The price is about the same as a Dewalt when they are on sale. The Delta is really just a Dewalt with an upper arm lock. Don't be tempted by the new Excalibur saws. They are Chinese knockoffs of a REAL Excalibur. Good luck on whatever you choose.
  9. I'm wondering if a Hegner retainer might work. Or at least be a good example to fashion one from. They both function in the exact same way so I think it would work.
  10. Reading all the above just strengthens my belief that Baskin-Robbins got it right. A flavor for every taste.
  11. So far Costco is fine but Walmart is not well. They are being overrun with homeless RVers.
  12. Once you have one you won't be without it. Just being able to cut a molding flush with the floor, nothing else works. As I mentioned above, we wanted a medicine cabinet in our master bath and the only place for it was the side of a cabinet that had an inner wall. I laid out the lines on the cab and used the fine-tooth blade that vibrates. Once it was through the wall it was just a matter of following the line. Noisy but effective. I used a shop vac at the same time to suck up the dust. I've used the triangular sanding pad on just about everything I've made. I bought one of the first Dremel models about 12 years ago. Since then they've changed them but I don't know if they improved them. My only complaint is the placement of the air vents. They are where you would naturally want to hold the tool for the best balance. I just take breaks to let it cool.
  13. Sadly our JoAnns is closing. As many other California businesses are or have.
  14. I'd say buy a couple lights from H/F and hang them above you saw with chain. Get them down to about 7 feet from the floor. 2 would be plenty but still get a magnifier.
  15. I started out with 4 2-bulb 40 watt flourescent overhead lights. Then H/F came out with their 5000 lumen LED lamps for $20 ea. I put four up in place of what I had. My little shop is so well lit now that sometimes I turn 2 if them off. I also have H/F lighted magnifiers mounted on the wall with LED replacement bulbs in them. I have NO problem seeing my work. If I make a mistake it's usually from loss of concentration. I DO like a lot of light.
  16. Kevin, I have both of the units you show. I take the backer off the 1" belt sander so that there are no "hard" angles to it. I also use a lot of wooden dowls of different diameters with sand paper either loosely rolled up or glued to them. I have a Dremel multi-tool that I originally bought for the cutter blade aspect. I wanted to cut some wall panelling in our bathroom to install a medicine cabinet. I did find later that the sanding part was pretty useful and I found a place on Amazon that sold the precut paper with velcro backing at a bulk price. As mentioned above though, you have to give your hand a break every once in a while to let it recover. Because of where the air vents are on the tool you can't hold it where it would be most comfortable. That's my only complaint.
  17. Very nice stuff!
  18. Set it on a piece if fatigue mat and solve both.
  19. I'll bet yours are HTC. They were the best at one time but very pricey. I think Delta sold them under their name.
  20. Welcome back from The People's Republic of California. I look forward to seeing what you like to make. Pics are a must though or we won't believe you. Do you have anything you specialize in or are you still in the deciding phase. Me, I'm not into wall hangers. I like boxes, bowls and baskets. Things that have a purpose other than collecting dust. But to each his own. Please do keep us updated on your journey.
  21. I've used these a couple of times. They work well. The cost does keep going up though.
  22. Ok, how about building a cradle for the rear leg that spreads the footprint out maybe the same width as the 2 front legs and recess the two wheels?
