  1. As everyone has mentioned - Steve Good is a great resource and I am glad that I found his blog. I have cut a lot of his patterns, so it is hard to choose what to post. Here are few that I have done.
  2. It is great being retired!! And the timing was perfect.
  3. Thanks Charlie
  4. Thanks. That was my thought as well. I was going to try dry brushing but I didn't like the sample.
  5. Don, I did leave it so the puzzle would go right through. You could easily put a backer on it. I wasn't thinking to clearly when I started, otherwise I might have put a backer on it. That being said, this makes it just slightly more challenging because you have to get the "right side up".
  6. I was so excited when Alex posted his new pattern yesterday. It came at the perfect time. I was just finishing lunch and looking for something to do. I saw the plan, purchased it and "got it done". This is also cut from reclaimed Elm. We have a lumber place here now that takes trees that the city has cut, and mill them. Most of the stuff is kept as live edge. This piece was cut from one of their "shorts" at $5/bf. Enough rambling. Cut from Elm using a #5 mg blade. I cut the outline with a #5 FD ultra reverse, but it was so slow and burned in a couple of places. The MG left an amazingly smooth surface that I only sanded the nibs where the blade came out. The flower/leaves have a watered down thin coat of Unicorn Spit. The border is Old Masters gel stain - red mahogany. The hummingbird was finished with Old Masters - fruitwood, the flower/leaves were coated with Tung Oil. Thanks @alexfox for another wonderful pattern.
  7. Looks great.
  8. Not only did I purchase, here is a cut, but not finished project. This is cut from reclaimed Elm. Question for Alex - on the leaves it feels like the center line should be through to the end of the leaf so it is two pieces. The vein stops just before the end. Is that intentional?? That is the first picture. Second is the back of the puzzle showing the colour & grain of the wood. I will get this finished tomorrow and post.
  9. Great patterns. Just purchased the hummingbird.
  10. It could be because I have Apsen in the shop. I didn't think it had that much grain in it because I was using it for the stand up puzzles.
  11. This isn't oils. It is a mixture of beeswax & mineral oil that is semi-solid. I received a small jar as a "hostess gift". It is so easy to apply. I use a bit of a shop towel and rub a bit on. The next day I just buff it a bit. This only has one coat, but the starfish I did, I put two coats on.
  12. I know, that's why I hate throwing it out, but hubby was starting to really complain.
  13. Another piece done this year! Don't remember the wood. Cut with #3 FD full reverse. Finished with the beeswax/mineral oil "butter".
  14. I spent a bit of time cleaning up my scraps. Threw some wood out!!! Created a new storage area. Used a shoe rack for putting the bins on. Looking at it, I think I should clean out a bit more!! Hubby might be right (Don't tell him that). Some of my scraps are quite small.
  15. Good luck with the fretwork. Steve Good, of course, has some simple fretwork projects. I have also been trying some intarsia recently. I hope to try some puzzle boxes this year.
  16. Good to see you in the village. I have been cutting your 20 minute puzzles. The whale looks great
  17. Looks great.
  18. Great job Christian. The painting is perfect.
  19. Both are great work.
  20. It is wonderful to have that keepsake and the story behind it. I don't remember my first project, but I do remember cutting a couple of nativity sets for my daughters and getting so frustrated with trying to get a straight line!
  21. That is so beautiful. Great work.
  22. Thanks Marg. Merry Christmas to you and yours, as well.
  23. Beautiful work. I like the first apple best. The contrast really pops.
