    Thanks. I don't think I am a great painter. I certainly haven't tried any shading/contouring that I have seen on others.

    Thanks for the details. I would like to start making frames but I guess I will need to update some things in the shop. I don't have a table saw or router. I just use a Dremel with the router bits.

    For all the gnomes I have made, these are really the only ones I have sold. I did sell a few "Christmas" ones. As much as people say they like, I don't seem to be able to sell them!!!

    Nice clean cutting. I am not going to comment on the colour but I am going to ask about the frame because I would like to attempt to make some myself. How thick is the poplar that you used. I assume you rabbeted the inside 1/4" for the thickness of the MDF and that the 1/8" ply covers the frame as well???

    Commission piece all done and waiting pickup! BB ply, #5 mg blade, acrylic paint, blue is a custom colour, shellac finish.

    I find their shipping costs, in Canada, to be very expensive. I had previously ordered a sample pack of blades from Mike @ Mikes workshop. They arrived, from the US in a regular envelope so the cost to send was under $3. When I ordered 1/2 dozen blades from Bearwood, the shipping was going to be, if memory serves, about $15.00. I asked if they could put them in an envelope for $2 in postage. I was told that it couldn't be done and I didn't know anything about shipping! I had just finished a job where I was the shipper and sent items like gaskets up to concrete mixers across North America!!

    Couldn't find denatured alcohol. The isopropyl is what the supplier recommended. Seems to have worked out well. I was able to buy a 4 pack at Costco pharmacy so it was relatively inexpensive.

    You might want to check with your insurance broker. Because you are earning an income from your hobby, ANY claim you may have on your house might not be covered because you didn't disclose the "business". Just call me a paranoid, now retired, insurance broker.

    You should be able to get coverage for the "stock" which would be retail price level. However, that premium might come at a premium.

    I wouldn't say I have a better handle on this subject. I can't figure out what sells and doesn't sell in my area!!! That being said, I haven't done a whole lot of shows

    Customer service is a huge thing for me. Bad customer service is the one reason I will not use Bearwood and when someone else does, I make other suggestions. Denny for US people and Garnet Hall (Sawbird) for Canadians.

    Here is his guitar with the shellac finish. He is quite proud of it. Everclear, if available, would be way too expensive to use for this. The isopropyl alcohol is what the guys at Woodessence recommended.

    My husband was putting together a guitar kit and purchased shellac flakes from here.https://www.woodessence.com/Shellac/Dry-Shellac Now that he has finished the guitar, I "stole" the shellac. Dissolved the flakes in 99% Isopropyl alcohol. Just trying it out on a project now.

    I had the spelling wrong - it is Osmo finish. I like that it is eco friendly, developed in Canada, and if I remember correctly here in Manitoba. https://osmo.ca/ It is a wipe on finish. If you want a more opaque finish, just add more coats. I also tend to push a bit at the end or use the blade longer than I should.
