  1. I am not totally devastated just some disappointed. I had consigned to this same sow and did much better last year! The booths next to me- one did no sales--one did poorly. All told no body did very well! Three different ones told me my items are nice and reasonable try some other shows before I "abandon ship". The vendors are a nice helpful bunch that seem to look out for each other--15--20 total here. I will only try a few more, maybe 2-3 then resort to some other means totally and never look back! Hell at almost 71 my rearview mirror is broken anyway!
  2. Well, Dick, on your next trip this way; we may have to try to see if one of my growler haulers can handle enough for both of us at once! I actually have a 4 carrier; should make it! I mam a lightweight at that part. Seriously; NICE Work-- way past my patience and skills!
  3. Sounds like a few thousand miles of ocean is not enough to get away from bad government! Almost forgot--THAT is a world-wide epidemic! No country seems to ever get that one cured!
  4. The UUCC craft sale was a big FLOP!!!! Only consolation; nobody did well! I did a very un-impressive total of 3items! Guy beside me did 0 ; he did have higher end products! Very nice things! He told me that last year (when-I had consigned) He had done well! I was encouraged by fellow vendors to try again at a different placed! I ma aware that my tiny space was too crowded1 I am totally exhausted; and some what disappointed. Sorry A.K. no pictures yet! Did not even get very many semi-serious lookers, maybe about 3-4 prospects, but, that is all.
  5. Thanks to all! AND I AM not cheap---- I am just monetarily ultra conservative!
  6. Made up as a demo for the craft show that I am going to be in. Any help pricing of the things and pother advice is still wanted and appreciated! Thanks all. Anyone wanting to inform Portland OR area friends etc. about it--- the show is at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church in Hillsboro, OR 97124 Thanks to all.
  7. Been there---DONE THAT! When my hands locked up I had to go I ! Wore heavy boots and a [pair of insulated coveralls. There was no way to heat a tin garden shed-- especially at MINUS ZERO TEMPS! My drillpress howled-- I would turn it on and let it run BEFORE I tried to use it! Forties was not too bad-- did not kill equipment like the extreme cold does!
  8. Thanks all for the input. I am setting up at the first craft -show I have done for decades this coming Sunday, at a church. I do have some religious (nativity) based and a few ornaments that are general. I also will have a lot of general items, including yard things-(mason bee houses, bird houses, planters, carriers etc.) available with my cards and brochures. The fee was one donation item ($20+ range )--to be raffled and 10% of my sales--Honor system! I had been there last year as strictly consignment, not a booth-- they talked me into it this year. I will be posting in the BRAGGIN or CRYING-OUT-LOUD-- sections by late next Sunday! Oh! we do not have a crying room! Oh well I might be there anyway@!
  9. I would be careful about putting a belt guard on it right away! Might be a great saw; Check for excess movement of the arms from each other. Was not Powermatic a Montgomery -Ward house brand? Means it was some other brand re-labeled. If it seems solid and you can get it for $50 you should be alight. It will not have a line-up waiting to buy it.
  10. I gave $400 even total for mine new in BOX with stand and the junk light! I would only give $175 for it or less. also would want to know WHY it is for sale! They are good saws; but my rule has always been used = 1/2 price-- Unless they are and very well show almost new condition! then maybe 2/3; but no more than that! There are others out there too.
  11. Made from mostly free fence cedar and some purchased rawhide lacing. The torched effect is added and then a very quick spray coat of spray poly to keep the burned from leaving a trail on things. Sized to haul 2 64 oz. beer growlers and not get heavy. Already claimed sort of-- going on consignment at a brewers supply, maybe tomorrow already! The good thing is I can make more! I even made a sort of pattern for the one. The rawhide lacing was due to "pilot error"; I had put an upper slat on and realized the bottles would be very difficult to get in and out of that one! Being a contender for the "TIGHTWAD of the Year Award" -- I had to figure out a save! Now it as almost totally assembled, So my long bit and I drilled some holes for the lacing and proceeded. I actually think , I like the look of it now. The rawhide will wrap the top very securely for transportation! Comments and Ideas are always welcome! Thanks all.
  12. Well, HOW do we all know about having put a bade in up-side DOWN! We have all done THAT! Sometimes we even get in a hurry and forget to reset the tension! That makes it act up too.
  13. You will like the saw very much! Throw the light away and get a different kind to avoid bad language when the bulb blows and you do not have one! Get one that takes standard bulb bases or a full LED with the magnifier! They are great! If you need blades and only have the pin end--the pins knock right out and the blades still cut! The allen screws on the back side f the blade clamps can sometimes need to be re-set to get the blades square with the table and each end! Use a thread locker of the removable type when you do this!
  14. On sandpaper; I found that 80 becomes 100, becomes even a finer grit down the trail! I buy only 80 for my belt sander and after some of the harder use it will sand very smooth! I would like to run into a deal like that! Where is the best place to get sheet sandpaper anyway? I will be needing to renew my supply before too long. Also what sandpaper actually stands up and has a reasonable price? I will not even buy cheap sandpaper any more! wearing out the levers on my sander changing the junk!
  15. Fuses can LOOK GOOD and be blown! meter the fuse, not eyeball it. All the above advice is excellent. I am sure you can find and fix the problem! H-F even sometimes has free meters in their ads. I have checked H-F meter against a Fluke(Spendy meter brand=Professional quality) and it was within 2 % on everything I checked with both! Resistances and voltages AC & DC. Good Luck! Check your cords and the outlets they plug into, might be bad extension cord end or wall out let going out.
  16. Congratulations on a good show! I will now make up a "Your Name" desk sign demo model. Two questions what do you sell them for? And any other tips about display pricing etc. are appreciated. I am going to add an attachment; these are about 6" by 6" and stand independently on felt feet. About how much should I ask for these? Any suggestions on the pricing is appreciated, thanks to all. The snowmen are a small catch-all bout 11 " long 5" wide and about 9" tall overall. Same question; How much should I try to get for them?
  17. AS You still earn the "amazing " title-- just do your own font! As good as you are at the cutting; I am positive, that you can just draw them! You probably do NOT EVEN have to use lines anymore!
  18. Hello and welcome to the Addiction! I paid $11 for my first scrollsaw, But that was 60+ years ago. I still have it and it still works, running about 50 years on homemade parts, but still runs. I use it on very light cutting about once a year for the heck of it. I have worn out 2 other saws in between. You will find all kinds of help and advice here as well as Ideas and patterns! There are no "dumb questions" although I have seen stupid answers! Everybody does screw-ups, do NOT worry about them most are repairable and the rest can be useful for the campfire! Scrounge up some free wood for the practice runs and have a great time. Make the "nest" comfortable for you. What works for someone else does NOT matter; what works for you does. Use a small shop vac and jury rig close to your saw to help with sawdust removal, some saws even have a vac port. The forum will give timely answers -- advice- patterns- ideas and a load of crap to everyone! None of the garbage is personal-- just noise! We do like to see work, not everyone can be the world's best, do NOT worry about it! If you like it; it is good enough to show us!
  19. Make 6 by 48 belts from it! You might have to get a paper cutter --like photographers use --if it is a paper backed not belt type, and just cut blanks for your palm sander and use the scraps for the special hand made sanding blocks we all make.
  20. The 16 will be very fine -- for about 90% of your cutting! But it will be just not enough on that other 10% I had a 16" Dremel pin blade saw that would let me turn the blades sideways; it did about 99% with that feature! Now some of the pros hate pin end blades; most of what I do they would do fine! I now have a DW 788 and it is a very fine saw and has done a lot of tough(hickory, maple & oak) cutting. I can say that it is a good saw! Get a decent light for it right away though, as the factory one is garbage.
  21. Man what a set for a movie at home night and chips/popcorn! Very nice design and beautiful work! Down side== Now you will have to make more of them!
  22. I think that you will like the 788! The newer ones have a tilted stand that I do NOT like! Mine still has the flat stand! I have abused my 788 a lot! Two complaints about it! Original light was junk and very poorly located--got in the way! The tools free clamps --were hard to use with arthritis! Bigger knobs -- I made a over knob-- then some how over tightened them. I then modified them to actually use tools to tighten-- a few years back now! It was to be a temporary fix while my new parts came! Still using it that way--seem to be used to it and like it.

    saw mill

GREAT SCORE! I scored some nice cedar shorts from the fencing company down the road; by just asking to buy some of the fence rejects! They make great birdhouses and planters! Free is even better! I am going to make a few beer growler double carriers from them! Straight out of their dumpster! Could have had other usable wood there too; same price! When I go back; I will have to take some candy bars or something as a "Thanks Guys"! Some of the pieces had staples I had to pull; man what a NON-problem!
  24. Really love the bowl! Tutorial for us slow learners would be very nice! You might nave to email me a link to it; so, I do NOT miss it! Great Work! The trailer is neat, too. Did you transfer, or paste the picture for the puzzle?
