  1. maybe a new Polymax - but their like 3 grand now
  2. not sure -with the newer faster machines like Pegas their value has dropped a bit - their not a fast cutting machine and their is alot of them on the market , have seen them listed for around 300 but they don't sell very fast , so that would be a pristine one . think the older one i had went for around 200 ( what i paid for it - But I didnt bond with it ) woodworking machines are difficult to value , they go for practically nothing Ive seen good tablesaws go for like 50 bucks - and ive practically given away a few machines - Im looking at reducing the size of my shop - when you have multiple machines typically one has to go -which is life ( i have a couple of scrollsaws , bandsaw , face sander etc- that will need new homes in the near future - Ill probably use facebook market place )
  3. do you know what would really suc? get it done and be missing one piece ! .
  4. I dont use a vac system on my saws anymore - but years ago i bought a old used electrolux for 20 bucks and used that not that bad -thou the bags are next to impossible to get - but i did have a cloth one that cleaned out easily-
  5. Rolf - you should be able to buy a new lock and key and replace it - If your friend is ever interested in selling - Let me know Some Parts are next to impossible to find -and its a tough saw to work on. The facebook page is all their is -its not very active - but their is some good info their .
  6. You did good -it it runs, your probably good to go- their are a few adjustments you can make when it goes out of wack but mine never did -thats actually a very nice saw- my only problem is that it was too big - i like saws a bit smaller. I sold mine years ago - but should of kept it !
  7. Thank you all so very much -will get the 3m adhesive though maybe carpet tape -But looking back I dont remember it holding very well - the discs i have are commercial - and they seem a bit hard to flex - ( the carpet tape pulled off the metal disc ) Ive had problems with the 3m spray adhesives - but that was few years ago - use to use something called spray away ( cant find that ) again thank you one and all ! Merry Christmas
  8. I have a couple of boxs of 12" commercial grade sanding discs , but they do not have adhesive on the back was given to me years ago - and i had a tube of Delta brand adhesive that you use to apply to the metal backing plate, when the machine was running and then tack the round disc on - but its dried out and cannot find a suitable replacement -these discs are commercial grade and are exspensive - ( they last a long time ) was thinking about putting double sided tape on the back and apply them to my sander - but not sure if that would work . These things are not light weight - and i need to know they wont come off - Any suggestions ( also worried about something being to strong of a bond -need to replace these every so often ) any ideas ?
  9. Been wanting one of those for a while - just maybe ( have to ask santa for one )
  10. Before i even read the responses - i was thinking a Jewelry box ( Thou I think Kevin has a good idea as well ) - guess scrollers think alot alike ! Id say find a gorgeous piece of wood , something with a nice figure and not an impossible to cut hard wood - maybe Africian mahogany or black Walnut .
  11. without picture -this would be my response : some saws have a blade holder which is separate from the saw -some dont - if their is nothing their -guessing a separate holder -if you see a clamp their its not .
  12. Looks like an upper end ( over the top )machine - actually looks like a great machine - but i already have 2 - 14 inch models ( delta and Jet ) and their all i need -- But if Pegas wants to send me one to evaluate - Id do it !
  13. My blade storage tubes came from a friend who was a machinist - tubes they kept Bits or bores in he gave a bunch many years ago when we had a scrollsaw club in Western NY. I dont get into fancy - and thou i have many blades of all sizes - technically I use only use 6-7 different blades - -
  14. Marg . Id check your Facebook Market place , theirs alot of woodworking machinery out their at present for sale . Another though -when i had problems with mine , I found a motor repair shop and they repaired it - not to bad in price ( i took it off and delivered it ) but mine is a commercial Metal working model - a bit harder to work with
  15. Agree - if you have a problem with it , the machine is not trashed , you can find used motors - or upgrade its power - i really like my older US made Delta contractors saw - being a former woodshop teacher , i know all about the unisaw -this is a close 2nd ( almost ) Ive cut big stuff like plywood 4' x 8' - with a little help -it does it fine - basically the same size table as the unisaw . No regrets -could of bought alot worse ---
  16. mine is a older Delta Contractors saw -I added a interlocking belt with a new pulley system - and it has better traction and power than the original saw . Mine is actually made in the USA its cuts on the square with the the mitre gauge and fence ( as long as its set up correctly ) and it even handles dado's fine. But I typically either use a forrest blade or a Freud anti kick back combination blade . Thou the motors a 1 1/2 horse , with that new belt and pully system it has more power . Thou I wish back in the days that I bought a Unisaw - I just used it to make posts for my deck
  17. I have cut shell - but not with a scroll saw - they make a small hand fret saw and yes you use very fine jewelers ( and yes with a scrollsaw -but as slow as you can get - expect the blades to break easily ), design tacked down with adhesive spray . Pearl can burn very easy with a powered saw . cutting them by hand is not a difficult task in fact it was allot of fun ( have inlayed a few guitars in my time ) BUT THE DUST CAN BE VERY HARMFUL TO YOUR LUNGS - WEAR A MASK A GOOD MASK LIKE A N95 ( I always wear a mask when I scroll saw )
  18. I have a commercial model performax sander for that kind of thing - Thou it takes a bit to get it set up properly - those sand fleas are interesting -if you get one do a review of it !
  19. To me a fun cut is something thats extremely challenging - sometimes even something very simple is fun - depends. At the moment almost anything is fun -as long as Im on a saw !
  20. Dewalts a nice saw -Ive had a couple of them !
  21. Welcome - The folks here are easy to get along with - like a family !
  22. Ok- this is showing my age , the stuff i use to use is old and the can is empty - plus its not made any more ( i think ) need something to hold down a pattern that I can remove when im done cutting- I see gorilla , 3m etc. Whats the best stuff -- Thanks in advance ! Tony B.
  23. Im not disagreeing with you -i think they are plated ,maybe titanium -my guess( not sure ) they have a brassy color to them -yes they break easier than most ( especially the fine ones ) but one of my saws loves them -they seem to stay sharper longer but the larger sizes like the #9 do not seem as sharp as the Olsen blades - confusing isnt it !
  24. might sound crazy but this has happened to me a couple of times- getting involved in a longer project and mess it up near the end- how i challenged this is to try and do the hardest and most dificult cuts first -which typically comes out ok- partially becasue im not under any stress - and the easiest part last . So if it all goes wrong in the beginning im not out much. We all cant do this - especially when a project is new to us , but experience makes it goe easier.
