  1. friendly price!
  2. This may help. I recently bought a clip art image and the license gives me the right to use it for commercial purposes. I intend to use the image in creating a puzzle with some modifications. With the modifications you can still tell I used the copyrighted image for the basic design. I then asked the folks who I bought it from if I could submit my puzzle to a magazine for publication. The magazine would copyright my puzzle design so somebody could not sell the puzzle pattern. They said no way! The copyright remains with the original author although I purchased the right to use it commercially via selling puzzles.
  3. Love it! A two piece puzzle!!!! bb
  4. Well I will never ever buy a saw and have it shipped either new or used. A disaster. First one was a Hawk which I had to send back at my expense because of excessive vibration. Then I bought a Hegner. Should have sent that back too but I didn't for some reason. I think it must have gotten bent in the shipping process because cutting puzzles is a hit or miss situation. It is difficult to get it tuned and stay tuned. I'll only buy locally from now on so I can return it if needed.
  5. Jim, Your dilemma would give many of us a golden opportunity or excuse to buy a new tool bb
  6. Randy, I'm always impressed with items you post here. Truly amazing talent. Are you on the craft show circuit? For several years there was a gentleman who cut jewelry from coins and did a land office business at the Spring art/craft show in Fairhope, AL. He wasn't there last year. There is certainly a demand for what you do! Are you doing the April 23-24 craft show in Franklin, TN? Only an hour away from you. We'll be there with a booth full of puzzles.
  7. I have glued up 1" thick padak, tigerwood, and canarywood with tightbond II and often you can't see the glue joint. But need a straight clean surface as mentioned before. I recently glued up two pieces of lacewood 3/8" x 4" x 4" to make a 3/4" x 4" x 4" piece for puzzles. I was amazed that the glue joint is not visible to the naked eye when I cut a small dinosaur puzzle. It's too bad you don't live in the Atlanta area. I can buy all the padauk I want for $8/bf or less. The last piece I bought was 1" x 10" x 10' with very nice coloring. Had to have them cut it into 5' lengths so I could bring it home.
  8. PUZZLES! Cut in half with a bandsaw and plane each to 3/4" thick. Cut puzzles. Seal with Watco Teal Oil. or sell 2" stock to woodturners for tops, pens, etc. Lemme think now. You are in Ft. Lauderdale. Lots of boats have teak. Maybe a market there?
  9. Nice bear puzzle Monti! Are they German bears? Here is what I use to sand puzzle edges. Can be put in a drill, drill press, or lathe which I use. https://www.apdmro.com/3M-Scotchbrite-9416Na-p/70070905693.htm Works out to about $7 each with shipping. They last a long time.
  10. Monti, Beautiful.
  11. Len, some of the complex projects might be difficult without being able to read the tips and instructions in German. Yes, the dimensions are in metric. However, there is a modernistic multilayered nativity scene in the winter 205 issue which I will attempt to redesign into a single piece. bb
  12. isn't there a DNA test for wood? bb
  13. Wow, that was quick. Ordered the magazine on Jan 25 and received my first issue today - Winter 2015 issue! The format seems similar to ScrollSaw Woodworking & Crafts in that there is an insert in the middle of the magazine with patterns. There is a nice multi layered nativity puzzle as well as an intarsia nativity. Both very nice. Also a sled project whereby the sled moves via a cam mechanism. Other patterns as well along the Christmas Holiday theme. Also, there was an assortment of six different kinds of NIQUA blades (64 blades total) included in the magazine. I am pretty certain that Flying Dutchman blades sold in the USA are made by NIQUA. All in all a nice magazine and I am glad I subscribed. I just wish I could read German bb
  14. Glad you posted the topic. What would you folks charge for this one. ~4" tall x 8" wide x 3/4" thick. Maple. Colored with food coloring and sealed with lacquer. Thanks for your input.
  15. Just in time for Valentine's Day! Looking for another title for this puzzle. Any ideas?
  16. Charlie181, Wowee, those walnut scraps are a gold mine! For mini puzzles. Kids love em. Just sand the edges so there are no sharp edges and apply some oil like Danish or Tung oil. Lately I have been using Watco Teak Oil finish as well. Take a look at Judy Peterson's "Animal Puzzles" book published by Fox Chapel.. Many of my mini puzzles came from patterns in her book - just reduce the size and sometimes reduce the number of pieces.
  17. That is amazing. A beautiful piece indeed! You should submit that to ScrollSaw Woodworking & Crafts for publication! Let me know if you need a contact there as they have published two of my patterns.
  18. Joe, I had the same dilemma several years ago. I am attaching a Louisiana State Wildlife Puzzle, A Sealife puzzle, a mini puzzle collection, and a small cross puzzle.. All are from scraps. I also have 5 small Christmas puzzle ornaments from scraps of soft maple which I haven't taken any pics yet. Hope this helps.
  19. Excellent!! I like it! That could easily be made into a puzzle. What font did you use?
  20. I will let folks know what I think when I receive the first issue. But since I am not fluent in German my review will be based only on pictures and patterns. bb
  21. DonR, Yes, the 39 euro includes shipping. bb
  22. Forgot to mention. 4 issues for 39 euros ~$43 U.S.
  23. Nothing difficult is ever easy!

Dan, I like that a lot! What font did you use? What backing did you use? I see the back on each letter is the same color as the letter. How did you do that? bb
  25. Well I done did it! Subscribed to the German magazine on their German language website. Took me an hour as I had to jump back and forth to Google Translate for almost every word. Got confirmation from the magazine and Paypal that everything went through. As they say: "Nothing difficult is ever easy"
