Also, when you get the new blades, do some test cuts to get the correct angle for inlay. Stack cutting for inlay is the only way to go.

Thanks for the comments. Yes, Dave I order Samen Stain online. This water based stain was recommended by Sheila Landry several years ago. I also posted this project on my Facebook page, and Sue Mey 'liked' it. That made my day.

I completed this project on Monday, March 28th. It is a pattern by Sue Mey and found in CWWC April 2008. I used Hard Maple 1/2" x 7 1/2" x 9" and backed with 1/8" Baltic Birch plywood stained red with Samen stain. For cutting the internal cuts I used FD UR #1 and FD UR #5 on the perimeter. There is a 'D' hanger on the back. Comments welcome.

Very nice and tight fitting inlay. Wouldn't be able to replace the "o" with TN though. Too long and narrow.

Great work on cutting the Miniature Birdhouses. Your display is perfect.

Jerry's is a good source. Don't buy the expensive acid free mat boards. There is acid in wood.

I have purchased full sheets of Baltic Birch Plywood and like Orangeman says 5' x 5'. I get mine from Jefferies Woodworks in Seymour, TN.

recommended blades/material for cutting intricate work?

With 1/4" and 1/2" wood I would suggest #1 or #3 blades. Spiral blades have teeth around the blade. Flat blades have teeth only on one side. I use both, but if you want to cut straight lines, use a flat blade. Spirals take some time getting use to. If you purchased FD blades, they also sell mini bits. -
