  1. Another beautiful piece TJ. I've taken a copy of the pattern. Perhaps one day I will attempt to cut it out. Funny, I was just looking through my CDs of old editions of Scrollsaw Woodworking and Crafts and came across this article on a TJ Brown from ARK. I said, hmmm, I wonder if this is the same TJ who has recently been sharing some of his work on the Village and the Magazine forum. I believe it is you - is it? It is from the Fall, 2009 issue of SSW&C magazine.
  2. I’ve done several I’ve shared more recently that I had cut on the. Saw, then carved, and painted so I didn’t want to show those again. So I decided to go back to some older ones I did where I used different woods to add “colors.” ”.
  3. Welcome home Doug. Look forward to your participation.
  4. Beautiful work Pete. I was going to echo what others have said - hope you went ahead and made another one or two since she already filled this one up.
  5. Sorry to hear about your Son's damage. Glad it was limited and that no one was hurt. Some beautiful signs you have crafted.
  6. Like others, i try to always finish the back of a piece. To me, it is not "finished" with the raw wood on the back. That is clearly just my opinion and preference and plenty others do not see an issue with it. My niece bought a large round wooden sign with her newborn's name, first and middle, and date of birth on it. She changed the name of the child after she ordered the sign (they had agreed on one name before she was born, then they decided on a different one after she was born ). So, then she wanted to know if we could change the name on it. I agreed to do it and cut the name out on the scroll saw. When I got the round board to remove the original name done by the Etsy seller, I was appalled to find the back was not finished in anyway, it was simply unfinished wood on the back. Given what they charge for these signs - I couldn't believe they hadn't put any finish on the back side. Yes, it hangs against the wall and nobody sees the back - Until it is taken down. But to me it made the piece look cheap and not done. I personally would never buy a piece that did not have the back finished in some way with at least the stain or seal coat done. However, with this sign, I don't know you would have known until it arrived since she bought it off Etsy. I never checked the listing.
  7. That's the way I like to fix anything mechanical if hubby isn't around to fix it for me! Congratulations on your new saw. Let them get the Dewalt running for you so you have a backup saw.
  8. If you are a member of the Scroller's Cafe - @Tj Brown recently posted a tutorial of how he has used resin with plumber's putty in fretwork to fill it in with colored fill. He showed several pieces he has completed as well. I've tagged him here so perhaps he can share it here in the Village as well. I'm not sure how often he visits the village but perhaps he will see this since I have tagged him. Edited to add - I've sent him a PM here as well so perhaps he'll be able to provide his info. soon.
  9. I have used it for a few projects, but it has been a while and they were not scrolled projects. My husband is interested in using in turning projects so I got him some stuff (including the pressure tank) and a book for Christmas but he hasn't had time to mess with it yet. It is important to follow the direction on mixing, etc. It takes very little color mix to get the color desired in my experience. I don't think you absolutely need to have a gram scale but it would be helpful to ensure proper measurement.
  10. Welcome to the village from East TN.
  11. New Pattern Announcement sub-forum here in the Village is here: https://www.scrollsawvillage.com/forums/forum/33-new-pattern-announcements/
  12. Thanks for the detail reply Kevin. I will continue to watch your progress and learn from your info.
  13. That’s looking great Kevin. Curious how you did the arms? Also, what’s the overall size? Did you increase or decrease from pattern noted as a source (that was not cut from wood.) How much bigger would it need to be increased if y you wanted to use a pendulum clock piece do you think? Where would you get that pendulum clock piece?
  14. Great to hear from you and to hear that you are healing and able to spend a little time in the shop. Doesn't look like you missed a beat on the scrolling. Awesome work. Your neighbor is going to love his surprise.
  15. Lots of good work there - looks like you are covering a lot of items and holidays.
  16. Look, those wooden bunnies are reproducing at the same rate as real bunnies! Penny is doing an excellent job - good thing you got that 2nd saw.
  17. Sounds like you have every reason to love that young man. He has every reason to show it off as well.
  18. I was going to suggest that @kmmcrafts Kevin just post a link to his Etsy page since he is the King of the Clocks (and ornaments) i believe I have made one clock since I started scrolling. Clearly not competing with Kevin. Was not even sure I had ever taken a picture of it, but looks like I did. I made it for a friend's daughter who graduated from law school. It is a Dirk Boelman pattern. It can be found here: https://theartfactory.com/product/scales-of-justice/ Edited to Add: Oops - looks like I made two I think I gave this one to my niece or nephew both who play the guitar.
  19. Nice job. I think this is a pattern from @FrankEV but he calls it a raven
  20. Thank you everyone for your likes, kind words and encouragement.
  21. Here are two Santas I cut out on the scroll saw (stack cut them so identical cuts). I finally got them finished. The first one is hand carved and then painted with acrylic paints. The second one has no carving, but i used the pyrography unit (wood burning) and burned the fur, beard, and other details before then using artist colored pencils to color him with. The beads on the legs were store bought. As you can see, the different techniques used on each gives very different looks to each. I used the different techniques to see how each would look. I love them both. The pattern is from Lora Irish.
  22. He has risen indeed. Beautiful pieces you cut Denny.
  23. Beautiful piece Charlie. I like the rounded edges too. Now, you need to get to cutting out all the bunnies for your “farm”.
  24. As you should be, nice work. What wood did you use?
  25. Beautiful work Denny. Love the “double” message in one piece.
