    Frank I can't believe I am giving you advice but here goes. I would try FD UR #7 or 9 slow your feed rate down and maybe slow your saw speed. Ash like oak is tough and it being 1 1/2" thick makes it a bugger.

    Dan that exchange is a great idea and I know it means a lot to you. Do you know how many years you have been doing this? Also do you know if the people you exchange with exchange with others?

    Bruce I have learned that scroll saw blades wear out fast "very fast". When I change holes scrolling I will rub my thumb on the part of the blade that is doing the cutting then rub the part that is not cutting and compare. If it feels just a little dull I change blades. You will be very surprised how fast they get dull.

    I haven't got my patterns yet but do you cut the outline of the dog first then cut it out a piece at a time? I am good on blades. I think I have all the FD UR blades. Can you tell I really like them?

    I bought these patterns and I need any tips you might want to share. Like blades, and do you round over the edges a little? Seems I remember some puzzles have the edges rounded over. http://www.scrolleronline.com/product/8087/353

    I have two shades of walnut plus the natural in Watco and I can't tell the difference. I don't understand. I pay special attention to mixing.

    They are all nice but the last photo really catches my eye.

    Sam if I am using Watco for small things I dip them and for larger projects I use a sponge brush. I let it soak for 15 minutes and wipe off. After wiping off you don't have to worry about it dripping. For small things I place them on a piece of nylon window screen so air can get to both sides. After it dries I put a coat of paste floor wax on them. You can leave the wax off if you want.

    Sam you will never have a problem with rags catching on fire if you hang them up and let them dry.

    I am not in business but I have a branding iron. The guys at work gave it to me when I retired. I don't use it on everything but I really like having one that is for sure.

    Do you have a lot of money??? I am just kidding, I know I don't. I would say don't rush into buy something that isn't very good quality. I know I wish I had bought better quality tools like my drill press and I wish I had bought a better router table. The guy's that posted before me have given you some pretty good advice.

    Kevin there is a video on UT showing how to do maintenance on the 788 but you already know that. What you may not know is they tell where you can buy better and cheaper bearings for your saw. Now ain't that great???

    Standing for long periods isn't an option for me so I sit. Besides I am lazy.

    Dan I was talking about the white lever you flip to tighten the blade after installing it. I lube the bearing surface so it won't wear as quick.

    I can't remember any one talking about doing maintenance on their EX scroll saw's. I am talking about inside where the bearings are. I do keep the blade clamps and the white nylon tensioner lubed.

    Dave I think you are right about not tearing it down until it's out of warranty. I have heard that when you send them to be fixed they really don't do a very good job. I say do your best to wear it out before the warranty is out and if it makes it that far you know you have a good one.

    Thanks Dan. How do you mill the wood to 1/32"? That is thin.

    If you haven't figured it out yet getting old is for the birds. I had some book marks saved and now I can't find them. If you have or know where I can get some patterns I would appreciate it. I would think they should be a 1/16" thick and I need to know if you are milling the lumber or buying it?
