  1. Welcome to scrollsawing. Looking forward to seeing your work.
  2. Yes Scrappile the bottom clamp is removable. That's what I like about it. I can change a blade and be back cutting in under 30 seconds (yes I timed myself once).
  3. I'm In no hurry when I cut so the EX saw may not be for me and the Hegner costs more than the Hawk so I think I will continue to look for a used Hawk for awhile then decide whether to get a new one.
  4. I'm mainly looking for how the blade is changed. I really like the way blades are changed on my Hawk and just wondered if the rest were similar. I looked at a Porter Cable in Lowes and there is no way I could get my fat fingers in there to the lower clamp.
  5. My daughter has watched me make things on a scrollsaw over the years and decided she would like to give it a try. I have been looking for a used Hawk saw around our area but so far they have been too much money or to far away. A Hawk saw is the only saw ,Other than the Ryobi I started with that I have used. I have toyed with the idea of giving her my Hawk and buying myself a new saw but I don't know what I would buy. What would the main differences be between a Hegner,Excaliber,Seyco compared to my Hawk? I could buy a new Hawk but maybe the other high end saws offer something better. I do mostly fretwork. Thanks
  6. Congratulations on the new saw let us know how you get along with it.
  7. Thanks for the great comments. My work doesn't hold a candle to some of the projects on here. There are some really talented people on here.
  8. I like that it is unique.
  9. Here's a moose shelf I have been working on. Used red oak, walnut and cherry.
  10. I made that drive a lot about 20 years ago. Had a son that went to tech school in Laramie Wyoming. That drive was 13 hours. Nebraska is a long and boring state to drive through no offense to you Nebraska residents. We live on the east side of Iowa right on the Mississippi River. It was 5 hours across Iowa,7 hours across Nebraska and 1 hour to Laramie Wy.
  11. I found a 220 about 2 hours from me ad said never used but they want $500 for it. The woman said her mother in law bought it 2004 but never used it. I'm going to wait a week or so and see if it's still on Craigs list and offer them $300 for it.
  12. No one in Colorado. I'll just keep looking here in Iowa.
  13. I went back and watched your videos. With a serial number of 6319 it is newer than mine. Mine has a serial number of 5614 and I bought it brand new in 1996 so I would guess it was probably 1999 instead of 1989. It looks just like mine same clamps and everything. Would you be willing to sell it?
  14. Send some of them RBIs to Iowa would you I'm looking for one for my daughter. Very good deal.
  15. Very detailed I like it
  16. I like it. It looks great.
  17. Yes she as thrilled with the sewing table. It only took me 35 years to get around to making it. I was supposed to make it when we were first married. I told her I would get around to it some day. I didn't think it would take me that long though. She's going to retire in a year and a half so I thought I better get it built.
  18. So far it's holding up pretty good but it's only been 8 months since I installed them.
  19. Haven't been doing any scrolling lately been doing other projects. Here are two of my latest. One is a folding sewing table for my wife made out of cherry and the other is 3 bar stools we had in the kitchen that we're starting to look shabby. I made the seats out of cherry too to match the cherry countertops I built last winter. The first pic is a before and after.
  20. I'm with Bill dump it on the edge of the woods behind my house and the chickens spread it around. FYI chickens don't like cherry sawdust.
  21. I did the same thing to my Hawk 226 last week. When I had it apart I noticed the wedge was rounded over a lot. I rubbed both sides of it on some sandpaper on a board and flattened it back out. I had been having problems holding tension on the blade and that seems to have cured it. I did notice the part of the arm the wedge sets in isn't as sharp a v as it once was so someday I will send it back to Bushton and have them rebuild it.
  22. I have a 26 inch Hawk and I think she wants it cut like the picture tgiro posted.
  23. A lady I work with asked me today if I had a scroll saw. I told her I did and asked her why she wanted to know. She said she saw a book with some initials cut in it. It was about a 2 inch thick hardback book. The guy told her it was cut with a scroll saw. Has anyone here ever scrolled a book? I told her I might give it a try and see what happens. I would think you would want a bigger blade with a lot of space between the teeth to clean out the cut. What do you guys think? Thanks.
  24. My saw from 1996 didn't have the linc- loc but I added it later.
  25. My dad had one of the cast iron eagles remember it when I was a kid. We never new what happened to it. A guy I worked with at Case still hasv2 of them. Said he's been offered several thousand dollars for them but won't sell them.
