I have a 1996 vs226 Hawk that I bought new. I have replaced the spring on the back that holds the arm up and the nylon washer on top of the wedge. This saw has had a lot of use and still runs like the day I bought it. Every couple of years I take the saw apart and clean and put a little lube on things. I guess I would consider a Hawk a commercial saw.
I have been using mine since the original part broke about a year ago. I tried to order it when it broke and it wasn't available anywhere. So I wonder if they were aware of the problem back then but didn't have a fix for it yet.
I’ve been dealing with drain and plumbing renovations. Also built a new top for our dining room table in the last week. Wife whitewashed the old base and I built the top out of red oak. Still waiting on roofers to come put a new roof on the house. Also been fishing a lot this summer. I don’t know when I ever found time to work.
Thanks for sharing this. I had one of those deltas when I was a kid. My great uncle gave it to me and my brother. We cut a lot of lawn ornaments out on it. Today I have 2 RBI’s.
I have a Jet table saw, bandsaw, long bed jointer and dust collector. Not a single problem with any of them. The table saw and dust collector I bought new in 99, the bandsaw I bought used last year and the jointer I bought new this spring.
I’m making the wife a flower box that looks like the wood box on an old Case steam engine and these are going on the ends of it. My dad was a Case tractor dealer and the wife and I both worked for Case here in Iowa. The eagle was called Old Abe. He has been the symbol for Case tractors since the beginning in the 1800s.
I agree with Frank. The portraits and scene cutting isn’t for me. I enjoy making the big fret work clocks. I do other kinds of woodworking too but the scroll saw is my favorite tool.
I sold my 25 year old Delta jointer for within 50 dollars of what I paid for it new. I bought a rototiller for the back of my tractor 5 years ago. Paid 1300 for it new. Don't use it much any more so I'm going to sell it. A new one if you can find it is 2100 now. So when I list it going to ask 1500.
Thanks Dave When I bought it was between it and the Jet 1221. I picked the Laguna because it had outboard turning. Wish now I had bought the Jet. I bought a new jointer a month ago. Woodcraft had the Jet and a Laguna 6 inch lathe. I bought the Jet. Most of my other big tools are Jet and are over 20 years old and still going strong.
I bought 1 1/2 year old Laguna lathe that has been giving me trouble for the last month. When I first called them they were great. The parts they sent me didn’t fix it. After not hearing back from them for a week I emailed again. They were going to send another part last Thursday. Still haven’t got it or heard from them again. It’s a great lathe it’s their customer service that is hit and miss.
I have 2 RBI Hawks. I keep one size blade in one and another size in the other one. That way if I’m working on a project that requires both sized blades all I have to do is switch saws.
Thanks for the wonderful comments and Merry Christmas to everyone. Here is something I did today. Walnut, oak, ash, cedar and cherry. Wife found the pattern online
Here are some more pics. I used Pegas #5 MG blades. It’s a Wildwood pattern I bought probably 20 years ago and the wood is 5/8 thick. The bottom photo is a full sized 3/4 walnut one I made years ago but it’s so heavy. I reduced the pattern size to 80% and reduced the thickness to 5/8 on the cherry one. It’s not near as heavy. Sorry about the pictures my photo skills are lacking.
Thanks for your replies. I will keep trying to sell them. Craft shows around here are pretty much done for the year so I thought I would try Facebook market place.
