  1. Is $40 too much for these baskets? Takes me around three hours to make one. Using scrap hardwoods and spray polyurethane to finish. I put them on marketplace 2 days ago and no takers yet.
  2. Sorry to hear of Les's passing. I always enjoyed reading his posts.
  3. Be glad you don't live in Colorado or Utah. Was there 2 weeks ago $4.19 a gallon wherever we stopped. As we came back home to Iowa the gas got a lot cheaper in Wyoming and Nebraska
  4. I would dry fit the pieces and stain them before permanently assembling it. I use yellow wood glue to assemble my clocks and then use spray poly for the topcoat. Just my 2 cents
  5. Thank you all
  6. I enjoyed my retirement job a lot more than my regular job. I got hugs today from them and they didn't want me to go. They are incredible people.
  7. Today is my last day at my retirement job. Retired from my regular job 19 years ago and have worked at this job for 18 years sometimes full time but mostly part-time. I've been working with mentally handicapped adults. Now I will have more time for my scrollsaw and lathe.
  8. I bought a 220 last summer for 300 I don't think it had been used much. The serial number is 30 thousand something
  9. The bearings in my 1996 Ultra aren't sealed so I put a drop of oil on them whenever I think of it and on the back wedge too. Just a drop is all thats needed.
  10. Jerry I live south of Burlington Iowa not too far from you. Ray my painting isn't that good. I just cut out the individual parts, sand them and then hit them with a spray can of the color I want. Then just glue it all together on a backing board.
  11. I'm like Ray I have the Dustopper and my bucket doesn't collapse either with no restrictions
  12. I too am a Hawk owner 25 years no major problems. I vote for Hawk too. You won't be sorry.
  13. Woodmaster how do like that Porter Cable bandsaw? Does it have enough power for resawing? Thanks
  14. Check out yhe Dewalt model 779 same as 780 except no laser. 350 dollars. I bought one at Lowes about 6 months ago. Last time I was in local lowes they had a few of them left. It's a 12 inch though.
  15. Happy new year Ray
  16. I have 2 Hawks a 226 and a 220 Bought the 226 new in 1996 and the 220 I bought this year used. I also have a table saw, planer, jointer, lathe,2 routers,4sanders. Everything but the Sanders and lathe is over 20 years old and going strong. Next purchase is a bandsaw.
  17. I. Vote for the Hawk
  18. I have a 21 year old Jet contractor saw. Bought it brand new in 99. Never had a lick of trouble with it. I put good quality blades on it and it cuts square every time. I've seen them on Marketplace her in Iowa for between 200 and 500. I would recommend the jet.
  19. Congratulations Barb
  20. I like making these clocks. This is my third one. Next up is the Chimes of Normandy. Some day I will tackle the Dome clock.
  21. Just used good old Titebond
  22. I used 1/4 inch cherry. I didn't count the number of pieces just guessing I would say around 75 to 100
  23. Took two and a half months 2 cans spray glue, 1 roll blue tape and I lost count on how many blades. It has mistakes in it but I think it turned out pretty good. Still have to add the movement.
  24. The226 I bought new in 96 the 220 I bought about a month ago used. I bought it for a spare. The 226 is 24 years old but still going strong. The clocks aren't that bad to make just takes lots of time and patience. I started on this clock in the middle of May and I should have it done by labor day I hope.
  25. Gotta have time for fishing too. I do like building those clocks. I just ordered the Roman cathedral plans so I won't go to far from the Hawks.
