I recently obtained a bunch of plastic serving trays I thought would be cool to cut into projects. From what I've read, there are specific blades for cutting plastic, correct? Can anyone recommend a blade mfg/style? I really like the Pegas blades I've purchased better than the FD and I see they have a blade to use on plastic. What about using a plastic blade with wood - I read that I should "sandwich" the plastic between 2 pieces of wood before cutting. Thoughts? Thanks in advance

A post in another thread got me thinking about this, so I thought I'd elicit responses from you all... First off, I always wear glasses with every machine - I have to since I can't see anything anymore :( The only machines I run simultaneously is my dust/vac machines and one other - such as the scroll saw, sander, Table saw. None of them are very loud to me except the shop vac. I don't know how to use my router, so it's never on anyway - one day I'll learn how to use it and wear both ear and dust protection besides glasses. In fact. I probably have my radio turned up louder than any machine in the shop so I can hear it and consequently I don't wear hearing protection. I know I need to get in the habit of wearing gloves when I use finishing and painting liquids, but I always forget and by the time I remember I'm done :( And as far as a dust mask, I have both the inexpensive 3m masks, as well as a half respirator mask. I seldom wear the 3m mask except when we're spray painting - I probably should wear it more often, but alas I don't. The respirator I only wear when I'm working with Pallet wood - trimming the sides or cutting for a project. So I know I'm not the most safety conscious person from those perspectives. Just wondering what everyone else does in their shops. Thanks in advance

Having been a musician for the better part of 30 years, I've had a constant ringing in my ear for at least 20 of those. Machinery sounds don't seem to bother me, or perhaps I've lost so much of my hearing that I can't tell the difference anyway?

Do you all sand your raw stock before scrolling and then sand again afterwards before applying a finish or both? Quite a few articles/books recommend sanding the stock before scrolling (80 g through 320) and don't seem to sand when the scrolling is completed but go straight to finishing? I've tried to sand stock before scrolling, but then I have to sand again when the cuts are finished - this makes no sense to me. Thoughts? Thanks in advance

Actually the last thing I would do is mention "meds" to someone who is on them! Is he really a friend, or just a neighbor you have to put up with? If the latter, my advice is when the music gets too loud, call the police - otherwise unless you're prepared for an escalation of the problems, ignore him. In fact, don't even talk to him - let him approach you as to why you're not speaking to him. If he really is on meds, arm yourself for protection!

I get my bulk Pegas blades from Dndsawbladesonline Some blades like Olsen and FD I've gotten from Amazon in the past - usually in sample packs. The only ones I'm committed to at the moment are the Pegas - but hey, I'm new at this so don't listen to me LOL

Unfortunately you never know until you try! Wife and I, when we first started in real estate in our new area used to do these monthly festivals - we still have our tent, our tables and all our display stuff which I hope to one day renew into selling these scrolling projects. Anyway, we were the first and only real estate agents to do these festivals - after 2 weeks, suddenly there were 2 brokerages with tents giving away free wine and cheese. Of course we weren't giving away anything besides our information. But we had a much larger crowd - seemed everyone would go get their free wine then come to us for information LOL This went on for a few weeks and after an entire summer season which included a 104 degree 4th of July festival in Florida the only thing we had to show for our trouble and investment was *drum roll please* Zip, Nada, not a single new customer all summer! Needless to say, we've not done a single festival in 11 years - but we have the tent ready for our new Scroll gifts business

Just finished cutting this Steve Good Easter Bunny. I had originally stacked 4x1/4" BB but thanks to the replies I got I split the stack to 2 each and managed to complete the cuts this morning. Cut on 1/4" BB with Pegas 3R blade interior and 5R exterior- base cut on TS Next is filing, sanding and finishing. Lots of fuzzies but I'll get to them
